Introduction 


Our flash kits are available in every possible configuration, to suit your individual needs. 

You can buy our mains powered flash heads either individually or as complete kits, and you can build 

the exact kit you need on our website, adding and changing flash heads, stands and all accessories and 

updating the content and cost in real time. 

Unlike some other manufacturers, all of our flash heads are built to the same high standard and are fan 

cooled for trouble-free operation day in, day out. Each of our flash heads will automatically adjust to suit 

variations in mains power and can also be used with external battery packs available from a variety of 

suppliers. 

The SmartFlash is our entry level mains flash head, with 200Ws of power and adjustment from 

full to 1/16th power. 

The ElitePro is our intermediate professional mains flash head, with a choice of 300Ws or 600Ws of power 

and adjustment from full to 1/32nd power and with more features than the SmartFlash. 

The UltraPro is our high end professional mains flash head, with a metal body, a sophisticated 

digital display interface, a built in radio receiver and a host of other important new features, 

plus the option of a remote control interface. It is available with a choice of 300Ws or 600Ws 

of power, adjustment from full to 1/32nd power and with a lot more features than the ElitePro.

The SmartFlash is the ideal choice for home studios and where 

budget is important, our entry-level SmartFlash 200 model is the 

perfect lighting solution, with its tough ABS case, 150 watt 

modelling lamp, 4 stops of stepless adjustment, switchable slave

Lencarta is great value 

By carefully trimming the frills and concentrating on 

getting the important things right, you get a lot for 

your money with Lencarta. 

The heads perform well, and only miss out on 

some of the finer points that can mostly be worked 

around. They are well designed, like the neat 

one-lever swivel nd tilt head adjustment, and solidly 

made. 

Good savings also extend to high-quality 

accessories. Not jut the all-important light modifiers,

There’s a lot more to a good flash head than its performance and price - the 

other things that really matters are build quality and structural strength, because 

flash heads need to be able to withstand knocks and to be capable of being 

packed away and transported without damage. 

The bodies of these flash heads are made from ABS, which provides far better 

protection than the cast metal bodies used by some other manufacturers, they 

also have powerful shock resistant cooling fans! 

The 600 Ws mono flash head produces at least as much light during its very 

short flash exposure as 600 watts of continuous lighting would produce during a 

1 second exposure. 

Fitted with the standard reflector (not included) it produces a guide number of 

220 (equivalent to f/22 @ 10’ at 100 ISO) which is ideal for portrait, glamour, 

fashion, event and many types of product photography. 

Because of its high power, this flash head is especially suitable for group 

photography, commercial photography and for when specialist light 

shaping tools such as spotlights and honeycomb grids are used. But good 

studio lights produce far more than just power. The power needs to be capable 

of fine control, and the flash head needs to accept a wide range of light shaping 

tools and modifiers, as well as to produce clean, consistent light quality at all 

power settings. 

Another, very important factor is flash duration, because fast flash duration not 

only freezes movement but also produces very consistent colour temperature. 

The flash duration of the ElitePro 600 is a very impressive 1/1000th second 

(t-05), far faster than many similar product on the market!

The UltraPro 300 is our latest and most highly specified flash head, with all the benefits 

of the ElitePro. It also has a rugged metal case, double-insulated for electrical safety, a 

built in radio receiver with 100 unique settings. Optional UltraPro Commander to remotely 

control up to 100 flash heads in up to 10 groups. A fully featured LCD display for very 

precise power settings and ease of use, a powerful modelling lamp that can be set to full 

power, proportional power or off, and can also be set to dim whilst the head is recharging,

Although our mains powered flash heads can also be used on location with third party battery solutions, 

the true professional solution to location lighting is our Safari portable power system, and we have a 

choice of two models. Both models produce an incredible 600Ws of power (50% more than their nearest 

competitor) and so can easily overpower the sun when required. 

The Safari Classic is our entry level model, offering outstanding value for money and it has steel flash 

heads that can cope with even the largest and heaviest light shapers, and our Safari Li-on is our highly 

sophisticated pro model, with a lithium ion battery that produces 5 times as many flashes as its nearest 

competitor, 50% more power and a much brighter modeling lamp than its nearest competitor, 4 stops 

of power adjustment, asymmetric 2:1 power distribution, very fast recycling and extremely stable colour 

temperature and flash energy consistency. 

Although designed for location use where mains power is not available, both models are also at home in 

the studio, and the Li-on system can be recharged while in use. 

Each model can power either one or two dedicated flash heads, or a dedicated professional ringflash 

head, each can be supplied with a 5m extension cable and, best of all, each will accept the full range 

of Lencarta/Bowens fit light shapers and accessories, and they fit straight onto the flash heads, with no

flash head is fitted to socket A, the maximum power is 600 Ws and the power 

can be reduced to 25 Ws. The full power setting is enough to overpower the 

sun in most lighting situations. The power range from socket B is from 200 - 

12.5Ws, so the flash head can be plugged into socket B for ultra fast recycling 

or for when you wish to use a large aperture. 

Flash output is adjustable from full power down to 1/16th, via a digital 

adjustment dial. The power setting is shown on the LED display, which also 

shows the length of time that you have set for the modelling lamp to be on (up 

to 99 seconds). 

Although the lithium battery is lightweight and tiny, it has an enormous 

capacity and provides 400 flashes at full power (many more at lower power 

settings). It makes no difference whether one or two flash heads are fitted. 

The flash performance is amazing – the flash energy consistency varies no 

more than 1/10th of a stop at any power setting, and the colour temperature 

is extremely consistent too, varying flash to flash by no more than 10K (10 

degrees on the Kelvin scale)! The colour temperature is 5600 at full power and 

reduces by only 340K at minimum power. 

The recycling time is extremely fast, there are two settings, normal and fast. 

Using the normal setting drains the battery less quickly, so this setting should 

be used when possible. At normal recycling setting, it recycles in just one 

second at minimum power and 3.75 seconds at full power. When you switch 

to fast recycling those times become an incredible 0.384 seconds at minimum 

power and 2.9 seconds at full power. 

Although in theory, the Safari li-on has 50% more power than it’s nearest and 

much more expensive rival, in practical terms it produces 110% more power!

Light shapers are the all-important tools that fit to studio flash heads, and they are important because they shape and control 

the light, which is the essence of good lighting. 

Light shapers are broadly divided into four separate categories; 

softboxes, umbrellas, general purpose and specialised 

attachments. 

Softboxes are a universal tool designed to create either soft 

lighting or rim lighting, umbrellas are generally used when 

speed and portability are important. General purpose tools 

include a range of reflectors, snoots and our barn door 

attachments. Our specialist tools include our fresnel spot 

attachment, our focussing spot attachment, beauty dishes 

and honeycombs. 

These are tools that are used by the top fashion, portrait 

and product photographers because they help to define 

and enhance the qualities of the subject and create 

striking images.

Light Shapers 

We have two distinct ranges of softboxes, folding and non-folding. Each range produces an extremely high quality of light, with 

unparalleled evenness over the entire surface of the front diffuser, this is achieved by a combination of high quality materials and 

good design. 

In particular, our softboxes are extra deep, this ensures that the light is reflected from the walls perfectly before even reaching the first 

of the two diffusers, which are themselves much more dense and effective than most. And the front diffusers are deeply recessed, 

this allows the light to be feathered, so that the subject can, if required, be lit with just the edge of the softbox, and it also allows our 

softboxes to be used to create graduated backgrounds. The deep recess also allows our very effective softbox honeycombs (grids) 

to be fitted to many of our softboxes. 

One of the unique features of our softboxes is that a full range of speedring adapters is available, and changing the speedring fitting 

allows our softboxes to be used on different makes of flash head if required. By default, they will fit on Lencarta & Bowens flash 

heads but you can choose a different speedring, which will fit...

Profold Softboxes 


Softboxes are often considered to be the ideal tool for creating 

soft light, because they combine the soft, diffused light effect 

of a shoot-through umbrella with the controlled, directional (but 

harsher) light of a reflective umbrella. 

But traditional softboxes do have a disadvantage, because, when 

used in the home or when they are transported, they need to be 

taken apart and reassembled, which can be time consuming. 

The Lencarta Profold softboxes completely solve this problem 

because they open just like an ordinary umbrella – it takes just a 

few seconds! 

Umbrella softboxes have been available for some time but most 

of them are incapable of producing soft light because they are 

designed to work like a reflective umbrella, with the flash head 

between the softbox and the subject, which forces them to be 

placed too far away for soft lighting. The Lencarta Profold 

softboxes work in exactly the same way as conventional 

softboxes, so they can be placed as close as you wish.

It became famous in 1920s Hollywood and is now the light shaping tool of 

choice for fashion, glamour and portrait photographers who have moved 

beyond soft lighting and who want to emphasise high cheekbones and good 

complexions. 

A Fresnel lens shapes the light into an organized beam of mostly parallel light 

rays. It can be focused to produce a tighter smaller spot or a looser, wider 

spot of light. 

Used at a distance, it’s a harder light which creates a sharper, yet still smooth 

shadow edge transfer. When used close to the subject, as in a still life shot, 

the relatively large size of a 9” Fresnel lens positioned just 10 inches from the 

set creates a mix of hard and soft light. The shadow edges are still very 

distinct yet there is some wrap of light as well. 

The Fresnel spot attachment can

Our focusing spotlight attachment is a specialised light shaping tool that will fit onto 

any of our flash heads, and will fit to other S-fit heads too. Focusing spotlights are 

used to produce a hard-edged light that cannot be achieved with any other 

accessory. This focusing spotlight attachment can be used to create dramatic 

lighting on the subject and can also be used to create rimlighting, backlighting and 

to illuminate the background. Lighting gels can be fitted to the front, and blue, red, 

yellow, turquoise and neutral density ones are included. Also included are a gobo 

holder, with 4 gobos and there are 4 different sizes of spot. Sizes are adjusted by 

varying the distance and the shapes can be brought into sharp focus if required.

Our new JumboPara is a massive 1.65m diameter parabolic reflector, suitable for use in large studios. 

The JumboPara is an extremely versatile professional light shaping tool - in its ‘normal’ configuration is produces a massive 

light that’s ideal for fashion photography and groups. 

By adjusting the distance from the flash head to the reflector (or by fitting a different reflector to the flash head) the light can be 

changed from spot to flood, or anywhere between these two extremes. 

Because of its size it can be used to produce extremely soft light when required, and 

can be used at a distance when required without sacrificing too much of its softness!

is fitted with a standard 16mm (5/8”) spiggot,

Our 40cm beauty dishes are available with a choice of warm white and silver 

finishes. We believe that Lencarta are the first manufacturer to introduce 

beauty dishes with warm matt white interiors - so what are the advantages 

and disadvantages of white compared to silver? 

Advantages of white beauty dishes... 

1. They produce softer light. 

2. When used with a honeycomb they do not create a shadow of the 

honeycomb, reflected from the interior of the dish. 

Disadvantages of white beauty dishes... 

They are about .8 of a stop less efficient in terms of light output, although this 

is not usually important as they are typically used very close to the subject.

This special purpose reflector produces very even light coverage on 

backgrounds. 

Very little space is needed between the light and the background, this 

makes even lighting of the background much easier in small spaces, 

and the very even quality of the light dramatically reduces the need for 

excessive overexposure when shooting with white backgrounds, which 

in turn makes it easier to avoid edge degradation and flare. 

The background reflector can be attached to any S-fit flash head and 

is fitted with spring clips at each end, used to fit lighting gels for when 

coloured backgrounds are needed. It can be rotated as well as angled. 

The shot shown right needed just one background reflector, which was 

mounted on our special low level background stand, immediately behind 

the subject.

Continuous lighting is also very popular with portrait photographers because of its ‘what you see is what you get’ quality and 

because it allows constant shooting with no recharge delays. Most continuous lighting products can only produce harsh light, 

but this new product completely overcomes this problem by incorporating the lights into an efficient, medium sized softbox. 

The 80cm x 80cm softbox produces the equivalent of over 1600 watts of tungsten lighting. This means that there is enough light, 

at a distance of 1 metre and with 800 ISO, to give a typical full power exposure of 1/60th second at f/13 (or 1/800th at f/4), and a 

typical minimum power exposure of 1/30th second at f/4. 

The softbox is fitted with a diffuser, which can be removed if required, giving an effect similar to that of a Beauty Dish. If required, 

the softbox can be removed and can be replaced with an umbrella (not included). 

Supplied complete with lamps. These lamps are several times as powerful as similar lights that cost far more, and a combination 

of high performance and low price means that the Lencarta QuadLite is by far the best available.

It’s important to get top quality lighting stands because 

cheap ones will let you down, can result in damage to 

your equipment and, even worse, can result in injury if 

they fail or are knocked over. 

All Lencarta stands are strongly constructed from

Professional Parallelogram Boom Arm 

This is a heavy duty Parrellegram Boom Set. Just set the flash head 

to the tilt angle you require and adjust the angle of the arm to the exact 

height you want to create the lighting effect you’re looking for (you can 

go up to a maximum height of just over 3 metres, and at its lowest 

setting it will nearly touch the floor. When you adjust the angle the 

parrellegram design maintains the exact angle, regardless of the setting.

will remove the need to change the angle of the flash head when the 

height is changed, which saves an enormous amount of time and

And used with a simple double 5/8” female adapter & threaded

can then be used with camcorders, dramatic effects can be obtained simply by raising 

and lowering the boom, changing the height of the shot whilst maintaining the angle of

This is a ‘goalpost’ type system, 

made entirely from steel and 

ideal for supporting

up to 3 metres wide. 

It assembles in seconds and can be adjusted to any 

height from 92cm to 2.55 metres. The width can be 

reduced by removing sections of the top rail (there are 

4 sections, each 80cm wide). and it takes only seconds 

to change the width to 150cm, 231cm or 300cm. The 

sections lock together by means of a spring loaded 

ball, and each section locks together rigidly with the 

help of a fluted male/female joint. The top bar has a 

diameter of 28mm (which fits into the hem of any 

fabric background and which will also accept paper rolls). 

The tripod support stands each have four sections. 

The top bar is secured with a wingnut at each end, and the tripods 

also have a standard 16mm reversible spigot, fitted with both a 1/4” 

and a 3/8” screw thread, which means that they can also be used 

as lighting stands when not required for the background. Another 

useful feature is that the spigots can be repositioned at 90 degrees 

if required. A partitioned, roll-up carrying bag is included, for easy 

transport and storage. 

All of these features, and the excellent build quality, combine to 

make our background support system the best value and most 

versatile of its type.

Radio Triggers 

Using a radio trigger to fire the flash in synch with the camera has 

become standard, and for good reason. Radio triggers are wireless, 

unlike infra red transmitters they are unaffected by ambient light and 

they are reliable. 

We offer a choice of AC (mains powered) and DC (battery powered) 

radio trigger sets. We recommend our mains powered trigger set for 

use with our mains powered flash heads and battery powered trigger 

sets are needed for our Safari ranges. 

A trigger set consists of one hotshoe-fitting transmitter and one 

receiver. Only one receiver is needed when using mains powered 

flash heads, as the slave photo cell is normally used to trigger the 

flash heads that are not fitted with a receiver. Safari units are not 

fitted with slave photo cells, which are extremely inefficient when 

used in daylight, so if more than one Safari flash generator is used, 

each needs to be fitted with a receiver. 

Extra triggers and extra receivers are available for both mains 

powered and battery powered radio triggers. 

Our UltraPro range has a built in radio receiver, which can be used 

with our UltraPro Commander. 

All Lencarta flash heads are fitted with standard 3.5mm ‘audio’ 

sockets, and so can be used with most brands of radio trigger.

Using hotshoe flashguns off-camera nearly always produces a 

far higher quality of light than using them on-camera, and the 

quality of the light can be improved much further by using one 

of the Lencarta S-fit adapters. 

These strong metal adapters allow any standard hotshoe 

flashgun to be clipped onto the adapter coldshoe; the adapter 

has a very full range of adjustment, allowing the flashgun 

reflector to be positioned accurately. Light shapers such as 

beauty dishes, softboxes etc can then be fitted to the adapter. 

We produce two separate adapters, one accepts a single 

flashhead and the other one accepts three flashheads, 

which can be tilted in different directions to light the insides 

of large softboxes equally.

Home Quick Setup Still Life Table 

Product shooting tables are the professional’s tool of choice for 

photographing small products, either against a white background 

or, using either paper backgrounds or lighting gels, with any other 

type of background. 

This shooting table is of the ‘folding chair’ design, the stand 

folds completely flat in seconds and the acrylic shooting 

surface simply clicks into position, making it ideal for 

home studios and for when it needs to be stored 

when not in use in professional studios. 

The acrylic shooting surface is matt on one side and shiny 

PRO008 on the other, allowing a choice of including semi 

reflections of the product you’re photographing. Shooting 

tables are normally used in conjunction with boom arms.
