Great Porsche Christmas gifts

A Driving Passion
When preparing this issue of Enginuity, it became obvious
that the passion that many Porsche Centre Sydney South
customers have for their businesses – and life in general – is
reflected in their love for their Porsches.
Fine fashion, wonderful food and great coffee and Porsches
are natural companions.
It’s logical that passionate people are attracted to Porsches
because our vehicles are so rewarding to drive and part of our
responsibility as a leading Porsche dealer is to provide our
customers with a range of driving opportunities.
For a start, we are starting the New Year with some exciting
new driving ‘hardware’.
The exclusive and limited Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1
arrives in January.
In contrast, the Cayenne GTS that we expect to see in late
February/March is a new and on-going fourth model in the
Cayenne range. We predict it will be one of the hottest new
models on Australian roads in 2008.
There’s the sizzling new GT2 that arrives mid-year as the most
powerful 911 ever produced for road use.
At PCSS we have again drawn up a programme of events for
2008 that allows our customers to really enjoy driving these
and their existing Porsches.
Our Club Sport track day programme continues to grow from
strength, with six dates on the provisional 2008 calendar.
We’re also working on a range of other activities such as
special driving programmes, workshop seminars and social
events to link your Porsche passion with the other passions in
your life, so stay tuned.
In the meantime, I wish you a safe and happy Christmas and an
exciting and passionate year ahead with your Porsche.
Kind Regards
News from the Factory
Back in Black for New Year
The new Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 will
arrive at Porsche Centre Sydney South in January.
With a number of customer orders already placed
and just 11 cars earmarked for Australia out of
a limited Porsche production run of 777 vehicles
worldwide, this limited edition model will be very
exclusive property within Australia and will be
priced from $172,900.
A black Porsche Design briefcase containing a Flat
Six Chronograph watch, a pocket knife with black
blade, a pair of sunglasses, a pen and a key ring
(all in black) will be given to each purchaser of an
‘Edition 1’ Cayman S.
We have also had interest from customers wanting
to replicate the same all-black theme on regular
Cayman models based on the unique styling and
success of the new Cayman S Porsche Design
Edition 1.
Talk to us about how you can specify your personal
‘Porsche Design Edition’ Cayman or Boxster.
New Cayenne GTS joins
Porsche range
Unlike the Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1, the
new Cayenne GTS is not a limited edition model,
but a new and exciting addition to the current
second generation Cayenne range.
Priced in between the current Cayenne S and Turbo
models at $153,600, the GTS will arrive at PCSS
in late February/March with its own distinctive and
strong personality, with its primary focus being
even more sporting on-road performance.
Developed from the Cayenne S, but with many of
its styling cues taken from the Cayenne Turbo, the
Cayenne GTS comes with a more powerful 4.8-litre
V8 engine, 21-inch alloy wheels with 295/35 R21
tyres, a 24 mm reduction in ride height for even
sportier handling and a sports exhaust system as
standard.
The Cayenne GTS’s direct injection normally
aspirated V8 engine gains 15kW of power over the
Cayenne S to raise maximum output to 298kW at
6,500 rpm.
This results in even faster acceleration from
0-100km/h, with the GTS taking 0.3 second
less that the Cayenne S at 6.5 seconds. Top speed
is a slightly higher 251km/h (250km/h).
The Cayenne GTS is also available in two new
exterior colours exclusive to this model: GTS Red
and Nordic Gold Metallic.
Most Powerful 911 - GT2
The arrival of the new 911 GT2 at PCSS in mid-
2008 will maintain the momentum of interest in
the 997 series range.
It is the most powerful 911 model ever
homologated for road use, with its increase of
37kW (50HP) and 60Nm over the existing 911
Turbo coupe gained by changes to its twin
turbochargers that allow higher boost pressure
to be achieved with reliability.
It is also the first road Porsche to feature a
rear silencer and tailpipes made of titanium as
standard equipment.
Another first is ‘Launch Assist’, enabling optimum
acceleration and power transfer to the road, as
well as a three stage PSM system. The GT2 will
be priced from $425,700.

911 Turbo Aerokit
If you would like an even more aggressive, sporting
look for your 997 Turbo Coupe, Porsche Centre
Sydney South is offering a special price on the just
released factory Turbo Aerokit.
Consisting of a new front splitter spoiler and a new
engine cover with rear spoiler and fixed aerofoil
profile, the Turbo Aerokit’s aerodynamically
optimised components minimise lift on both axles,
improve stability and emphasise the dynamic lines
of the vehicle.
In addition to these components, the standard sill
trims and standard rear underside can be painted
in the colour of the exterior to enhance the overall
look.
The normal recommended retail price (fitted) of
the Turbo Aerokit is $15,990, but until the end
of March, PCSS is offering it fitted for $12,990
including GST.
Limited Edition Boxster RS 60 Spyder
Porsche is paying tribute to one its racing icons
with the introduction of a limited edition Boxster
RS 60 Spyder that will arrive at Porsche Centre
Sydney South in the second quarter of 2008.
Just 1,960 of these special models will be built,
with a scarce dozen or so units available for
Australian customers.
The Boxster RS 60 Spyder celebrates the racing
achievements of the open-top Type 718 RS 60
Spyder, which took on and defeated biggerengined
and more-fancied competitors in the 60s.
Its first win, in 1960, was one of its best – the
prestigious Sebring 12 Hour race, while the same
car went on to win the Targa Florio in Sicily the
same year. The Boxster RS 60 Spyder is finished
exclusively in GT silver metallic paintwork with a
contrasting natural leather interior with sculptured
Sports Seats in Carrera red, with the soft top roof
also finished in red.
Stainless steel “RS 60 Spyder” door sills, a new
gearshift lever and numerous other detail interior
design touches distinguish the limited edition
model, which will be priced from $157,800.
Top sales and turnover for Porsche
Porsche set new sales and turnover records
in the 2006/07 fiscal year despite the model
changeover to the new-generation Cayenne
models, with a rise in Porsche Group sales to
97,515 vehicles compared with 96,794 units the
previous year.
With an increase of 8.8 percent to 37,415
vehicles (previous year: 34,386), the 911 set
its own record, making it the Group’s most
successful model line.
Cayenne sales were particularly good
considering the three-month gap between the
phasing out of the first generation models
and the introduction of the second-generation
vehicles in February.
Carrera Cup
This year’s Carrera Cup was the most exciting
of the four held since 2004, with three drivers
going into the final round on the Gold Coast with
a shot at the 2007 title.
Albury-born 22 year-old David Reynolds in his Bob
Jane T-Marts GT3 snatched the 2007 ‘Cup’ from
reining Carrera Cup champion and expatriate
New Zealander Craig Baird.
Apart from the close racing and excellent
television coverage it has enjoyed on the Channel
7 network, a major feature of this year’s series
was the emergence of a number of talented young
drivers such as Deane Fiore, Marcus Marshall and
Michael Trimble as potential champions, setting
the scene for continued growth and popularity
of the series.
Spyder stars at Sydney Motor Show
One of the sleek Porsche RS Spyder sports cars
that dominated this year’s American Le Mans
Series for sports cars (ALMS) was the highlight
of the brand new Porsche stand at the Australian
International Motor Show in Sydney from October
12-20, spearheading a glittering nine-Porsche
display.
To further capitalise on the RS Spyder’s
presence, its Australian driver Ryan Briscoe was
brought back home to Sydney from his Penske
Motorsport base in Charlotte, North Carolina to
meet Porsche enthusiasts.
Other vehicles on display on the stand were a
new 911 Turbo Cabriolet, a Carrera 4S coupe,
a 911 Carrera 2 Cabriolet, a 911 Targa 4S,
Cayman S, a Boxster, a Cayenne Turbo and a
Cayenne.
Porsche dominates ALMS
When the Porsche factory goes motor racing,
it does it seriously and the 2007 American Le
Mans Racing Series (ALMS) was no exception.
Porsche was the most successful manufacturer
in ALMS this past season, winning eight of
the 12 races outright and taking victory in the
Manufacturer category in the LMP2 class in both
the chassis and engine categories.
Meanwhile Penske Racing – which entered two
factory backed RS Spyders in the Series – won
the Team category over archrival and LMP1
class combatant Audi, with newly-signed Sydneyborn
team driver Ryan Briscoe winning the 2007
ALMS ‘Rookie of the Year’ award.
All carbon fibre monocoque and weighing in at an
LMP2 regulation 775kg, it is powered by as 3.4
litre 32-valve water-cooled 90-degree V8 with a
44mm intake restrictor, has dry sump lubrication
and produces approx. 370kW at 10,300rpm and
370Nm at 7,500rpm. This gives it a powerweight
ration of just 2.1kg/kW.

Meet Ryan Briscoe
If you had barely heard of Porsche’s only contracted
Australian driver until his recent appearance on the
Porsche stand at the Australian International Motor
Show, then you’re forgiven, for 26 year-old Sydneyborn
Ryan Briscoe has spent the majority of his 15
year long career winning races overseas.
Although he started racing karts in Australia aged
11, he was quickly on the International stage. After
being talent-spotted by top Italian karting team
CRG, he was living and racing in Europe with his
family’s enthusiastic blessing by the time he was
15.
After graduating to Formula Renault, Briscoe then
won eight races in the 2003 Formula 3 Euro Series
ahead of current BMW-Williams F1 driver Nico
Rosberg and F1 aspirant Nelson Picquet Jr. to take
the title and during the season he was invited to
join Toyota’s junior development programme .
In 2004 he became the Panasonic Toyota F1
Racing team’s second test driver and took part in
his first F1 Grand Prix as the third race driver on
the Friday of that year’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
But then his F1 career stalled. Following a major
reorganisation of their F1 programme, Toyota
signed two experienced drivers in Jarno Trulli
and Ralf Schumacher to long-term contracts and
Briscoe could see no opportunity to get into a F1
race seat for several seasons except by joining a
struggling team like Jordan.
“I could have gone F1 racing for a year at the back
of the grid, but I felt that was the wrong direction,”
he said. Instead, he accepted an offer to go to
the United States and race for Chip Ganassi in IRL
open wheelers in 2005.
It all started well, with a 10th outright in the
Indianapolis 500 and some other strong individual
race results, but then he had an horrific accident at
the Chigagoland Speedway that left him with a pair
of broken collarbones, a broken ankle and a badly
compressed back.
Closely watching his recovery and progress was
former racing great and highly-success team
owner Roger Penske, who was on the lookout for
drivers for his 2007 Porsche RS Spyder squad.
He was impressed by Briscoe’s professional
approach, his raw speed in Indycars and his ability
to quickly get on the pace in a variety of racing cars
and this led to him becoming a contracted Porsche
factory driver at the beginning of the year.
“It doesn’t get much better than being a works
Porsche driver and racing for Penske,” said
Briscoe.
“The RS Spyder is really amazing to drive. It’s like
an open-wheel car with covers on. With its ground
effects, it’s so quick in the corners and the way
it accelerates, stops, handles and the g-forces it
generates are more like some of the top level openwheelers
I’ve raced.
The unquestioned highlight of his 2007 season to
date came in the Utah Grand Prix, round five of the
ALMS series, when he and his German team-mate
Sascha Maassen took overall victory, with his less
powerful Porsche heading the factory LMP1 Audis
to the chequered flag. Outstandingly, he drove the
final 75 minutes of the race on a single set of tyres
and one tank of fuel.
As his ‘reward’, Briscoe was entered for the famous
Indianapolis 500 in late May driving a Symantec
Dallara Honda co-owned by Roger Penske’s
youngest son Jay Penske. He was in contention for
victory before a rain burst forced officials to show
the chequered flag early while he was running fifth.
Another highlight of his 2007 season was that
Roger Penske himself was the strategist and team
boss for his #6 RS Spyder all season. Working
that closely with one of the most celebrated team
owners in motor racing has seen the two bond in
a way that’s only positive for the Australian’s future
and the next phase has already played out, with
Briscoe already given a full-time IRL open wheeler
seat for 2008 with the team.
Around the Block
- John Miesch
How long have you been at PCSS?
I have been working at PCSS for three months, but I have
actually been with the Porsche organisation for over 30
years, starting in 1975.
What do you enjoy most about your work with
Porsches?
There’s the satisfaction of working with a product that I have
total belief in and the knowledge that my clients are going
to have a wonderful and exciting ownership experience.
What car did you want when you were 13?
A Mini Cooper S.
Who taught you to drive?
My older brother - I now blame all my bad driving habits on
him!
How many times did you do your licence test
before you passed?
Twice, first time too far from the curb on the reverse park.
What was the first car you owned?
A Mini (unfortunately not a Cooper S ).
Did you ever think you would end up working for
Porsche?
A fellow university student was working for a dealership part
time and was leaving to go overseas, so he asked if I would
be interested in taking the job after graduation. The rest is
history, as they say.
If you were to buy a Porsche, which one would
you choose?
My heart decision would be a 911 C4S manual, but the head
decision for reasons of lifestyle and space requirements
would be a Cayenne S.
PCSS customers might be interested
to know that your patronage ultimately
could help a young German engineer
design your next Porsche.
As part of the international intern
programme, PCSS is currently hosting 24 year-old
Michael Kissling of Germany, who is in his final year of
his five-year degree course in Automotive Engineering,
specialising in drive train components – including hybrid
systems – at Stuttgart University.
Michael hopes to work with Porsche in Stuttgart once
he completed his degree, but he is currently gaining
the required hands-on work experience in the PCSS
service workshop, where he is spending three months
assisting qualified Porsche technicians in vehicle repair
and servicing operations.

PCSS staff ‘Drive The Range’
Why should the customers have all the fun?
To that end – and to improve their product knowledge – PCSS staff headed down to the Royal National Park
in July for a BBQ lunch before driving the Porsche Range around the Park roads.
The weather was a little cold, although that didn’t stop anyone from driving with the roof down and the
climate control set on ‘’warm’!
Generosity from people like you is vital, so if
you’d like to help other people in your community
celebrate Christmas, simply leave a gift under the
Wishing Tree located in our showroom.
You can donate to the Christmas Wishing Tree
donate a gift, the easier it is for it to reach that
lucky person or family in time for Christmas.
Sally does PCSS!
It’s quite an occasion when a big Hollywood actor
comes to town and the paparazzi were out in
force for beautiful automotive starlet and Pixar’s
CARS character Sally Carrera when she visited
Porsche Centre Sydney South in late November.
Over 100 children swarmed through our
dealership to see Sally in the metal and have
their picture taken with her.
But that was not all. The young fans also enjoyed
face painting, mini cupcakes, showbags and a
chance to enter the PCSS colouring competition
to win a prize valued at $250.
To complete the Hollywood atmosphere, the
CARS DVD played in the showroom throughout
the day on a plasma screen, drawing quite an
audience – amongst them many adults!
‘World’s most powerful sports car’ for
Phillip Island Classic
The World’s most powerful sports car – the Porsche
917/30 Spyder developed for the Canadian-
American (Can-Am) racing series in the early 1970s
– will be unleashed at Victoria’s Phillip Island over
the weekend of March 8-9 next year.
This spectacular racing car, whose 5.4 litre
turbocharged 12 cylinder air-cooled engine
produced up to 1500HP (1120kW) in tests and ran
reliably with 1100HP (820kW), will be the highlight
historic meeting, joining more than 500 other open
wheeler, sports and touring cars from the 1920s
until the late 1980s for 33 races on the Grand Prix
circuit.
The car coming to Australia from the Porsche
Museum is chassis No 917 30 00, which is the
one that the late Mark Donohue raced and in which
he dominated Can Am series racing.
The total superiority of the 917/30 in Can Am
racing was underscored by the 1973 results,
with Porsches finishing first, second, third, fourth
and sixth in the Championship standings – so
superior that the Can Am regulations were altered
at seasons’ end to exclude the 917 from future
appearances.
Donohue also used the 917/30 to establish a
closed-circuit record that still stands today, lapping
the Talladega oval in Alabama in August 1975 at a
speed of 355.85km/h.
My aim was to create a
blend reminiscent of Italy, but
roasted and packed in
Australia, to my exacting
specifications. Di Lorenzo
Caffe beans are sourced
from single estates (or farms)
from around the globe. And
all of these beans have
undergone thorough scrutiny
by panels of international
tasting judges.
Aldo Cozzi

It’s all about the coffee - and Porsche
Aldo Cozzi and his family love….no, make that…
fanatical about their coffee. After leaving Australia
as a child, Aldo returned here on Australia Day
in 2001 with his wife Mina and son Andrea. Not
being able to find a good espresso anywhere in
Sydney, the following year they decided to start
their own coffee wholesale business.
And so, Di Lorenzo Caffé was born.
The Di Lorenzo Caffé brand which Aldo, Mina
and their son Andrea wholesale to quality
establishments around Australia & now Asia is
created for true coffee lovers. The coffee was
named after Mina’s family name.
According to Aldo, Di Lorenzo Caffé possesses
“great structure and body, and a deep flavour
which is rich, chocolatey & nutty. It is great as
an espresso, but even greater with milk. Unlike
the majority of coffees out there you don’t have
to put lots of sugar in it to mask an awful taste,”
and furthermore, Aldo assures us you won’t have
to drink litres of water to wash away a bitter
after-taste!
The intention was to re-create, and better, a
style of coffee reminiscent of those from his
region in Italy. Aldo is so inspired by the success
of his achievement that he wants to share it with
everyone! Aldo believes that as Di Lorenzo has
grown, so has the understanding Australians
have about what constitutes a good coffee.
“Once you try this coffee, it is difficult to go back
to what you thought was great.”
One of the hallmarks of the Di Lorenzo team is
that they are keen to help their customers in
every way, and Aldo points out that this is the
overwhelming feedback he gets. “I give my
wholesale customers the training required to
make a beautiful cup of coffee,” said Aldo. “My
vision is to build a large community of Di Lorenzo
customers - growing together, all profitable and
all happy!”
And as far as espresso machines go, Di Lorenzo
can supply a complete range of Nuova Simonelli
espresso machines (www.nuovasimonelli.it) -
such as the one in the reception area of Porsche
Centre Sydney South. You can enjoy a great Di
Lorenzo coffee there whilst experiencing the
great vehicles, parts sales and service.
Porsche and Di Lorenzo Caffé - a perfect match
of quality brands!
To Aldo it is obvious what led to this partnership.
He loves Porches, and is so obsessed with
Porsche that he recently purchased a Cayenne S
from Porsche Centre Sydney South.
“It is dark grey and it’s beautiful.” he said. “I use
it as a day to day vehicle to visit my customers
and sometimes to transport coffee and coffee
machines. It presents just the right image for us,
and the image I want my customers to aspire to
– quality.”
“And of course we also use it as a family car too
– it’s perfect.”
Aldo doesn’t feel the slightest bit disloyal to his
Italian heritage with his choice:
“I have dreamed of having a Porsche ever since I
was a boy,” he said. “While my Italian friends had
pictures of Ferrari on their wall, I had a Porsche
on mine!”
Customer Profile
Gail Elliott & Joe Coffey
London-born, but now Sydney-based Gail Elliott
rose to fashion fame in the 1980s and continues
today to enjoy a stellar career as one of the
world’s top models.
She been a favored fashion show model for most
of the top designers – Gianni Versace, Calvin
Klein, John Galliano, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana,
Ralph Lauren, Gucci, Prada and Marc Jacobs
– to name a few, while also enjoying a rewarding
career as a print model for magazines including
Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Elle and Marie Claire.
But it is the ever-growing fashion label, ‘Little
Joe by Gail Elliott’ developed by Gail with her
husband and business partner Joe Coffey, that
is now becoming a major focus of her life.
The pair already have opened five stores in
Australia and launched an e-commerce store at
www.LittleJoeNY.com, while there are plans to
open across California.
The ‘Little Joe’ idea was generated by Gail’s
hectic travel schedule and her need for beautiful,
flattering slips and camisoles that served not
only as clothing to lounge and sleep in, but could
be worn out as well.
Gail always designs with herself and her friends
in mind, but her designs have attracted the likes
of Cindy Crawford, Naomi Watts, Sharon Stone,
Jessica Simpson, Elle Macpherson and Elizabeth
Hurley, who are all passionate followers of the
line.
Joe bought their first Porsche – a 2004 Cayenne
S – after being involved in a collision in Sydney
in the wet driving his old Jeep one day after the
couple had been living in Australia for about two
years.
“I had always liked Porsches, so I drove straight
to PCCS for a test drive of a Cayenne with
Gordon Soo,” said Joe.
“The roads were still slick, so I put the car through
its paces in the back streets of Alexandria and
came away convinced that it was now or never.”
Gail now inherited the repaired Jeep, but Joe
felt so guilty every time he drove off in the
Cayenne that a year later he went back to PCSS
and purchased a pre-owned 997-series Carrera
Cabriolet from Frank Khoshaba and handed the
Cayenne keys to his wife.
“Gail now loves ‘her’ Cayenne and I am extremely
happy with my 911,” said Joe. “It has surpassed
all my expectations and is an absolute joy to
drive.
“I’m even happier because I’m now regularly
taking part in PCCS Club Sport days and am able
to truly test my driving limits on the track.
“As every PCSS track day looms I am filled with
excitement, anticipation and still a lot of fear. I
find though that attending these events keeps my
everyday driving in check and makes me more
even-tempered and understanding and less likely
to fall victim to an officer or camera of the law.
“Gail and I really love our Porsches!!”
