Having the right people in the right positions at<br />

company. In order to ensure that <strong>Aventis</strong> has the best<br />

teams in place to meet the challenges of a changing<br />

industry environment, we are focusing on attracting,<br />

developing and retaining top talent and building a<br />

high-performance culture. In <strong>2003</strong>, we drove these<br />

efforts much further into the organization by aligning<br />

performance more closely with company objectives<br />

and enriching and deepening the talent pipeline<br />

with a steady fl ow of potential future leaders.<br />

In <strong>2003</strong>, we made signifi cant progress in establishing<br />

common processes and criteria for talent<br />

management, thus ensuring consistency of assessment<br />

and the availability of a global talent pool.<br />

Through international and cross-functional moves,<br />

we want to increase the early identifi cation and development<br />

of high-potential and top-performing<br />

employees. At the same time, we are encouraging<br />

our managers to sharpen their leadership and business<br />

skills through global development programs.<br />
