18 New Brothers at Beta Theta Pi
On Tuesday, January 31, 2012, eighteen new men signed their names in the role book of
the Gamma Eta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi. After an extensive pledge period, and in the
company of many Beta Theta Pi alumni, the initiation ritual went off without a hitch. As a
chapter, we were very pleased to be accompanied by not only our chapter advisor, Dr.
William Schaeffer, but also fathers and friends representing the Georgia Tech, Indiana,
and Auburn chapters of Beta Theta Pi. The Fall 2011 pledge class consists of many great
men from all over the southeast. With most of them being from Georgia, the states of
Florida and North Carolina are also represented. We initiated one sophomore transfer
student as well as seventeen freshmen. Two of our newly initiated brothers are
representing us well as leading scorers on the Georgia Tech lacrosse team. Multiple others
have begun taking on leadership roles in many different organizations around campus.
Our new brothers performed exceedingly well in the classroom as well. With four
receiving 4.0 GPA’s, the pledge class received an average GPA of 3.30. The chapter is very
pleased with our new brothers and expects many great things from them in the future.

Beta Leaves its Mark on the Competition Current Officers
This year’s homecoming weekend
was a great success for Beta Theta Pi. The
game that was to be played against Clemson
was scheduled for the evening, and the day
did not fail to live up to the expectations.
Our social chair planned a wonderful
tailgate that included the famed Atlanta
radio station “97.1 The River” playing classic
hits in our front yard as well as a grill-out
that attracted hundreds. Among the visitors
to our tailgate were many brothers from our
Clemson chapter.
As I am sure all of you know, our
homecoming game against Clemson was
one of the most exciting games of Georgia
Tech’s 2011 football season. The exciting
first half however was no comparison to the
events that went on at half time. First, the
winner of Mr. Georgia Tech was announced
and although one of our own was not
declared the victor, our own Scott Goodson
was on the field as a Top Five finalist.
And Into the Spring!
After the disappointing news of the
Mr. Georgia Tech victor, the best news of
the day was revealed. When the Dean Dull
Award winner was announced, Beta Theta Pi
came out on top once again. The Dean Dull
award declares the best overall fraternity
based on philanthropy, leadership,
scholarship, Greek Week, intramurals,
educational programming and
Homecoming. With a victory in the Mini
500 tricycle race as well as many other
events during Homecoming Week, Beta
Theta Pi placed third overall in the week’s
standings as well.
Our house is very proud of all that
we accomplished during Homecoming this
year and would like to send a special thanks
to all of the Alumni who came to the house
before the game as well as all of our
brothers who worked so hard to regain the
title as best overall fraternity on campus.

With the winter months approaching an end, Beta is excited to hit the ground running with
many fun and meaningful events. Already, the chapter has bonded through many brotherhood
philanthropies at places such as MedShare and many races across Atlanta as well as attended a
formal in Asheville, NC that included a day at Wolf Ridge to snow ski. Some things in the works
around Beta are an Alumni Golf Tournament on May 19, a mother and son Georgia Tech baseball
game, and of course our annual Crawfish Boil and Beta Lei spring party. There is a lot of excitement
brewing, and we hope to get everyone involved with the events to come.
