The purePhoto workflow is completely 

based on RGB - just like the photos as 

captured by the camera. From the digi- 

tal image to the final print no conversion 

is needed. This results in a much higher 

set of colors (gamut) compared to elec- 

trostatical systems. 

Gamut: RGB - CMYK RGB exposure 

Electrostatical systems use the CMYK 

color model and therefore have to 

convert the RGB files reducing the 

color space and overall quality. This loss 

of information is visible for customers 

especially in saturated images with blue 

and green colors. 

Thanks to the layer concept photo paper 

can display approx. 16.7 million diffe- 

rent colors per pixel. This fact together 

with a print resolution of 300 ppi results 

in smooth gradients and skin tones are 

perfectly rendered. 

The difference between photo and 

electrostatic printing becomes evident: 

While photo paper can reproduce the 

brown of the eye naturally, the brown in 

the printed eye is a mixture from several 

colors.

Stability 

Naturally UV-coated No protection without UV-coating 

Photo paper has an already built-in pro- 

tective layer which avoids mechanical 

damage and provides an excellent long 

term color stability. The light stability of 

exposed and processed photo paper is 

more than 15 years. The storage stability 

is 70 up to 200 years. 

Unlike photo paper, the paper used by 

electrostatical systems has no protective 

layer. Optionally it can be UV-coated af- 

ter printing which requires an additional 

step and equipment. The same is true for 

a matte or glossy finish. 

Electrostatic versus purePhoto 

Why quality? 

The photo book market is a popular 

segment and competition is already 

getting tougher. The first producers to 

offer more diversity and better quality 

will be winners. The advantage of this 

distinction must not be underestima- 

ted. Electrostatic systems are not inten- 

ded to print the true photo quality that 

we have known for years.

PURUS is the gateway to the purePhoto 

system. Customer data is imported from 

the Internet, fastEntry or other sources 

via LAN. Various front-ends are already 

supported. Further front-ends can be 

added via specialized plug-ins. PURUS

and images are separated. Images are

All Imaging Solutions printers can be 

directly connected inline (no take-up 

magazines required) to the high-per- 

fomance paperProcessor VSP. The new 

paperProcessor VSP 25-12 is based 

on the well established VSP 50. Photo 

paper from 8.9 cm up to 30.5 cm

(3.5“ up to 12“) can be processed on 

the single track. Speed varies from 

5 m/ min to 25 m/min (16.4 feet/min to 

82.0 feet/min). The optimized squeegee 

system on the VSP 25-12 reduces solu- 

tion carry-over to only 35 ml/m 2 resulting 

in reduced replenishment of chemicals 

and wash water usage. Paper transport 

is done without leaderbelt. VSP requires 

minimal manpower and maintenance. 

It also allows a smooth integration into 

the lab workflow with no compromise in 

production speed.
