Replacing all fossil fuels with biomass would require using all the global agriculture and commercial forestry land combined! However, the best use of agricultural residues, energy crops and waste materials would reasonably provide one fifth of current global energy supply
Low CO2 Energy and Low Grade Heat Sources: Energy Recovery from biomass and industrial/commercial/municpal wastes • Materials Segregation and Recycling yields: recyclables plus Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) floc/pellets Biomass composting, (IVC) uses 50-75 kWhre/ton energy Anaerobic Digestion only generates 75-160 kWhre/ton Incineration (thermal waste treatment) generates 600 kWhre/ton plus 2,500 kWhr/ton of district heat now! Pyrolysis and Gasification ‘could’ generate 1,100 kWhre/ton + 2000 kWh/t heat (with future research)
