Your Charity
Sheffield Hospitals Charity
is the official NHS charity
for the Sheffield Teaching
Hospitals NHS Foundation
Trust (STH). With the help
of our supporters, Sheffield Local supporters celebrating the end of their sponsored walk
Hospitals Charity raises
funds to improve the care and treatment of thousands of local patients being treated
for almost every type of condition at the STH.
As a volunteer in the STH you will see first-hand the difference the Charity makes. In
fact, you’re already benefiting from our support as the Charity provides annual
grants to the Volunteer Services Team. This funding helps them to manage the
wonderful teams of volunteers who provide that vital “something extra” through
their dedication to the hospitals and their patients.
Our funds have helped patients in many different ways including:
• A specialist nurse at the Cardiothoracic Centre, in the Chesterman Wing of the Northern
General Hospital, to help save lives by detecting and treating serious inherited cardiac
conditions.
• The library at Weston Park Hospital that provides patients with the opportunity to borrow
books, newspapers, magazines, DVDs and CDs. A trolley service is also provided for patients
who do not feel well enough to visit the library.
• A twin cot with heated mattress for premature twin babies being treated in the Special
Care Baby Unit at the Jessop Wing Hospital, enabling twins to be nursed together. This
helps them to bond and supports their development in the long-term.
• The creation of an en-suite bedroom in the Haematology Department at the Royal
Hallamshire Hospital, so partners and family members can stay overnight with leukaemia
and other blood disorder patients.
How you can make a difference
As a volunteer at the STH you are already making life better for patients, but there are many
other ways you can help to make a difference with Sheffield Hospitals Charity.
You could join a fundraising event for us, like running in the Sheffield Half Marathon, or organise
your own, such as a family fun day or a sponsored walk. You could make a single donation via
our website or help us to plan for the future with security and confidence by making a regular
donation, which you can do by contacting our Fundraising Team (see below for details).
If you have a particular hospital, ward or clinical area that you’d like to direct your gift or
fundraising efforts towards, just let us know and we’ll make sure it goes to the right place.
Spread the word
Make more people aware of our work by letting patients and their families know about us and
what they can do to help. Follow us on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, where
you can share our posts and encourage our other supporters, so your friends and family can see
what we do for patients in Sheffield.
Can you volunteer a little more of your time?
The STH are made up of five hospitals in different sites across Sheffield. As a result the Charity
struggles for the time and resources to keep our literature within the hospitals stocked and upto-date
and our collection tins maintained and regularly emptied. As a volunteer already on site,
you are in a perfect position to help us if you have the time.
If you can spare an hour or so whilst you’re volunteering at one of our hospitals and can help us
with the stocking of Charity literature or the emptying of collection tins, we’d be very grateful if
you could get in touch with us (see details below).
