What varieties and/or regions are still underachievers in Italy?
And why?
i like the variety montepulciano, red grape cultivated in central
italy. unfortunately, it is often overcropped and the quality is not at
its best. but if it would be managed with low yield, the result often
could be exceptional.
How did you become a wine maker? Is it more a passion or a
‘calling’ than a profession or study?
i grew up in one of our estates called nipozzano and wine became
part of me. at the age of 13 i knew i wanted to manage our estates
and produce a better and better wine. pure loVE.

implanted your Tuscany vineyards in New York’s Central Park.
What do you feel when you see this billboard in the street?
my heart beats faster; i recognise the place where i grew up and
see it projected in one of the most energetic places in the world.
it is an amazing feeling.
If you could invite 3 inspiring people (they can be alive or
dead) to a splendid dinner, who would be your guests and
what would you serve them as wines?
it is difficult to pick 3 inspiring people without sounding prosy, but
i’ll try.
