Egypt, the land of Faraons, and Cairo, one of the friendliest and 

most crowded cities in the world are hosting the 2002 IFBB World 

Bodybuilding Championships.

During the year that have passed since our last World 

Congress in Myanmar, and under the coordination and 

supervision of our President Ben Weider, I have been 

involved in many activities regarding Championships, 

seminars, meetings with sports and Olympic authorities, 

keeping the usual travelling intensive schedule. An important part 

of the seminars performed during the year has been the topic of the 

fight against doping, IFBB doping control guidelines and also natural 

alternatives to avoid doping products, together with information 

about the healthy life style philosophy of bodybuilding. Most of 

these lectures have been made in cooperation with Olympic 

Institutions and have given us the opportunity to reinforce our clear 

statements in these matters as well as to give more Olympic officials 

the opportunity to clearly evaluate facts about bodybuilding 

and their commitment for a clean sport and a healthy society. 

Judges seminars have also been covered in various countries in 

connection with our National Olympic Federations. 

2002 has been a very meaningful year for the European members 

of the IFBB family with the foundation under the approval of 

President Ben Weider of European Bodybuilding and Fitness 

Federation which I gave details in the paragraphs dedicated to the 

European Championships in Minsk, May. 

I was very honoured to join President Ben Weider in our official 

meeting with IOC President Jacques Rogge where IFBB presented 

its views on sports and that helped to reinforce our usual good 

relationships with IOC. 

The presence of Bodybuilding in various regional games, and 

Olympic regional Congress keeps playing an important role in our 

overall relations with the Olympic family. Asian games, one the largest 

regional multidisciplinary sport games from the Olympic 

Program has the meaningful presence of bodybuilding under the 

leadership IFBB Vice President for Asia Paul Chua. Panamerican 

Games Congress (Panamerican Games are the largest of the 

Olympic program after the summer games), had been especially 

important due to the establishment of procedures for IFBB to be 

officially recognized as federation member of ACODEPA. 

Once again I would like to emphasize the importance of the presence 

of IFBB in the regional games that will promote multiple 

benefits among others: 

Presence of our sport in activities joined by Olympic sports. 

Strengthening of links (or origination of them) between our 

national federations and their National Olympic Committees. 

Possibilities to give a closer view of our sport to National 

Olympic Committees officials and IOC members, that are present 

on those Games. 

Mayor press and TV exposure. 

Adaptation of our officials to the usual Olympic procedure and 

activities that will help for a better acknowledgment and managing 

improvements in some of our still small structured federations. 

Improvement of our national federations capacity to reach (or 

increase) financial support from sponsors to improve their potential 

to get medals at the Games. 

It is also very important and added a tremendous help in our global 

efforts to become consistent members of the Olympic family 

can be made by the national federation approaching positive, respectful 

and efficient way their respective national Olympic committees 

and to the ones that still are in a position of private associations, 

realizing the necessary steps to get official recognition status. 

All these efforts will have the benefit of social recognition, better 

capacity to deal with sponsors, participation in economical 

sport programs. 

DECEMBER 2001 IFBB 

AALLIICCAANNTTEE SSPPAAIINN 

Organization of the Juniors and Masters World Bodybuilding and 

Fitness Championships. This championships has been previously 

cancelled and it was in the last moment through the support of the 

new Spanish Bodybuilding Federation board and his president Jose 

Ramos that was possible to save this championships for the benefit 

of our Juniors and Masters athletes. The situation of canceling the 

Junior and Masters Championships is becoming unfortunately more 

frequent and it is mainly due to various factors that are being analyzed 

by IFBB and EBFF, in order to prevent this situation to happen 

in the future. For the year 2002 again it was necessary the support 

of the Portuguese bodybuilding federation to re establish this event 

that ( had been again cancelled in its scheduled place Brazil). 

During the month of July at the EBFF meeting, the situation regarding 

the World Championships was arranged and it was decided to 

launch in 2002 the European Juniors Championships that is proposed 

to be organized at Czech Republic at the beginning of April ( 

more details in the IFBB Calendar to be approved at Cairo 

Congress). 

JANUARY 2002 IFBB 

TTRRIIPP TTOO BBUUEENNOOSS AAIIRREESS.. Meeting at the National Olympic Committee 

with Coronel Antonio Rodríguez to follow up IFBB relation with 

South America Sports Organization and other matters. Meeting 

with the new Board of Directors of the Argentina Bodybuilding and 

Fitness Federation leaded by Oscar Santos who, after a short time 

in his position, already handled in a very satisfactory way the proper 

follow up of IFBB doping control policy and other sensitive 

matters in close co-operation with IFBB South America Vice 

President Aquiles de Cesare.


TTRRIIPP TTOO AASSUUNNCCIIOONN PPAARRAAGGUUAAYY:: Holding Meeting with the President of 

the Paraguayan Olympic Committee Mr. Ramon Zubizarreta and 

visiting, with the President of the local Bodybuilding Federation, 

the young lawyer Oscar Tuma, and visiting different sport facilities 

in the city. 

TTRRIIPP TTOO MMOONNTTEEVVIIDDEEOO AANNDD PPUUNNTTAA DDEELL EESSTTEE,, Uruguay attending various 

meeting with sports authorities and visiting the Uruguayan Olimpic 

Committee facilities and his president long term IFBB friend Dr. 

Julio Cesar Maglione. 

TTRRIIPP TTOO EESSPPIINNHHOO,, Portugal attending activities to the National 

Bodybuilding Federations and working with the local sport authorities 

and general secretary of the Lusa Bodybuilding Federation, 

Professor Joaquin Sousa, studying possible solutions for the situation 

of the suspension of the World Juniors and Masters 

Championships 2002 previously scheduled for Brazil. All the support 

was given to IFBB by local authorities and national federations 

making it possible the solution of a potential problem of suspension 

of this important event for the year 2002. 

FEBRUARY 2002 IFBB 

TTRRIIPP TTOO QQUUIITTOO AANNDD GGUUAAYYAAQQUUII,, Ecuador attending a seminar organized 

together with the Ecuadorian Olymic Committee and the 

Ecuadorian Bodybuilding Federation. During the stay in 

Guayaqui, I was able to meet Economista Danilo Carrera, 

President of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee and former 

President of South America Olympic Committee Organization Dr. 

Sabino Hernandez, together with many other Officials and the 

President and Executive Committee of our Bodybuilding and 

Fitness Federation with whom I settled a working meeting for the 

preparation for the 2002 Iberoamerican Bodybuilding 

Championships to be held in the beautiful city of Quito at the top 

of Andes mountains in October. 

Ecuador Bodybuilding Federation is leaded in a very efficient and 

consistent way by Professor Angel Coba. Since the realization of 

the Bolivarian Games and the successful participation of 

Ecuadorian Bodybuilding and Fitness athletes in this sport event, 

Bodybuilding and Fitness are included in the program of high performance 

sport with the follow up and direct support to the lead 

athletes in Fitness and Bodybuilding by the Ecuatorian Olympic 

Committee. Due to internal organization, coordination with Sport 

authorities and capacity of organization in international event, 

Ecuador national federation today plays a leading role in South 

America.

At the Assembly of the Panamerican Sports Organization (Organization of Olympic

Jorge España, President of the Bolivian Olympic Committee and 

former strength athlete, greeting Rafael. IFBB has established a 

close program of cooperation with the Bolivian Olympic 

Committee. 

Dr. Fernando Romero, President of the Venezuelan Olympic 

Committee and Bolivarian Games (Games of the Olympic Program 

that are joined by several Central America and South America 

Olympic Committees, in which Bodybuilding takes active part, is a 

long term IFBB friend; the picture was taken at an International 

Olympic meeting. In Venezuela Bodybuilding is a sport that have 

granted full recognition by National Olympic Committee. 

State Secretary First ( Prime Minister) of Myanamar liutenant general 

Khim Nyuent flanked by IFBB Asian Vice-President Paul Chua 

and Rafael Santonja with the occasion of 2002 World

event was a new opportunity to show the great Organizing capacity 

of Asian Federation and Paul Chua regarding International 

events. 

Meeting with Dr. Jorge Nery Carvajal, President of Central America 

Olympic Sports Association and Costa Rica Olympic Committee and 

Mr. Adrian Pearson General Secretary. Bodybuilding has been for a 

long time (1991) Medallist Sport at the Central American Games. 

The seminar organized in the Auditorium of the Ecuatorian Olympic Committee 

was followed by near 200 Coaches and Trainers and Economista Danilo Carrera 

confirmed me that it has been the most successful seminar organized by any 

national Federation in the country. 

At the opening of the seminar, I was very pleased to present Economista Danilo 

Carrera on behalf of President Ben Weider, IFBB Gold Medal as a tribute of respect 

from IFBB to his support to Physical Culture and Federation activities in the 

country and internationally. 

MARCH 2002 IFBB 

NNIICCAARRAAGGUUAA.. 

Meeting with Nicaraguan Olympic Committee President Mr. Julio Rocha regarding 

the next coming Central American Games ( organized by he National 

Olympic Committees Central America Organization) to be held in Managua, 

Nicaragua, in order to establish the co-operation basis for the participation in the 

program of this important event. (Bodybuilding is taking official part in this 

games since 1991). 

FFIIBBOO SSPPAAIINN.. 

Once again, like in the last 12 years, FIBO was the International Trade Show 

Organized in Spain under the patronage of President Ben Weider and with the 

co operation of the nationalSpanish bodybuilding and fitness federation. 

Including the presence of important athletes from the IFBB family, like former Mr. 

Universe and movie star Lou Ferrigno, Marieta Zigalova, World Fitness 

Champion and many others. The presence of Television, media and authorities 

made of this meeting an important highlight of Bodybuilding and Fitness life style 

promotion in Spain and neighbour countries. 

ABRIL 2002 IFBB 

LLAAUUSSAANNNNEE SSWWIITTZZEERRLLAANNDD 

Joining President Ben Weider in a meeting with IOC President Jacque Rogge and 

IOC Executive Director Gilbert Felli to follow up the IFBB recognition status by 

IOC, President Rogge was informed among other itmes about the improving 

position of Bodybuilding and Fitness as participant sports in most of the games 

from the Olympic program. The meeting was held in a traditional cordial environment 

between IFBB and IOC. 

BBUUDDAAPPEESSTT,, HHUUNNGGAARRYY 

Attending the European Women Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships. This 

occasion was taken to make a test about the new modality Bodyfitness, with 

positive consequences that moved IFBB to include this new modality of female 

sport as an official part of the program for the 2002 World Championships to be 

held in the city of BRNO at Czech Republic. 

MAY 2002 IFBB 

TTRRIIPP TTOO MMIINNSSKK,, BBYYEELLOORRUUSSSSIIAA.. 

Already Venue site for a very successful European Championships a few years 

ago; again President of the Byelorussia Federation Vladimir Alexandrovich, organized 

a very successful Men European Championships. Accommodation as well 

as Venue site met the highest IFBB standards and expectations. The overall event, 

full covered by television and with an enthusiastic audience that completely 

occupied all the facilities at the beautiful and modern National auditorium. 

Together with the Championships, it was scheduled another historical event with 

the first European Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Congress. 

The hall prepared for this Congress had all facilities including simultaneous 

translation to four language that made it easier for the European Federations to 

follow up the electoral process and their assistance to the new successful born 

of this new member of the IFBB family. 

Main goals of the European and Fitness Federation (EBFF) has been: 

Under the guidance and support of the IFBB, the development of more specific 

EBFF objectives. 

Coordination of activities with National Federations 

Recognition by the European Sport Organization (Council of Europe, 

European Olympic Committee). 

Improve the public image of our sport and life style in Europe. 

Educational programs geared toward athletes, coaches, judges, and sport 

administrators. 

Competitions /Championships: 

Establishment of sub continental events (3 for East, Central and South 

Europe). 

Keep improving the level of actual European Championships. 

Coordinate efforts with IFBB for the World events to be held in Europe

Attending the Championships and the IBFF Congress, there was as usual, Pamela 

Kagan IFBB Sports Director and Tony Blinn Chairman of the Technical 

Committee who played an essential role in the coordination of both activities. 

Albert Busek IFBB Vice President for Europe was presented with the distinction 

of IFBB Honorary President with the unanimous approval of all the European 

Assembly. Through this title the Assembly showed the great affection and respect 

that President Busek holds for all his life dedication to the sport of bodybuilding 

and because of his tremendous contribution to the expansion and popularity of 

our philosophy and life style all over the world.

To follow up relations with the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, meet the 

President of the Paraguayan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation as well in his 

capacity of Vice President in South America Bodybuilding Federation, and other, 

business matters

Holding meetings with distributor of IFBB magazines in the country and 

President of Argentina Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Mr. Oscar Santos, 

together with other business matters.

To hold meetings with IFBB Vice President for South America, Aquiles de Cesare, 

in order to follow up our relations with ODESUR ( South America Olympic 

Sports Organization), and other matters. Meetings with Dr. Jorge Zas Fernandez, 

General Secretary of ACODEPA( Confederation of Panamerican Sports 

Federations affiliated to ODEPA ( Panamerican Olympic Sports Organization). 

JUNE 2002 IFBB 

TTRRIIPP TTOO BBEELLGGRRAADDEE and Bor with the occasion of Mediterranean Championships 

events. In Belgrade I visited together with the President of the Yugoslavian 

Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Nenad Vuckovik the Ministry of Sports and 

met the Minister and General Secretary of Sports, discussing the cooperation of 

the Yugoslavian sport authorities with the Mediterranean Championships as well 

as the loan term cooperation with the national federation and IFBB. The 

Mediterranean Championships was organized with the direct support of the Bor 

City Hall and with the presence of the city Major who was presented with the 

gold medal on behalf of President Ben Weider, at the finals. Meditarreanean 

Championships are a unique occasion to meet athletes from European, Asian 

and African countries that border the Mediterranean sea and since 1984 give 

many opportunities to many sportsmen to achieve a higher level of experience 

at International events. Next Mediterranean Championships will be held in 

Egypt. 

During my stay in Bor attending the Championships with his usual enthusiasm 

and professionalism, I had the pleasure to have with me Tony Blinn the Chairman 

of the IFBB Technical Committee. 

Ciudad Real Medical Symposium. 

Attending this city at the South of Spain, participating in a symposium about 

sports activities giving a lecture on behalf of IFBB about nutritional doping alternatives 

for sportsmen, the Congress was presided by Mr. Juan Antonio 

Samaranch CIO Honorary President. 

Saint Petersburg: 

This Historical city, with the occasion of its 300 anniversary in 2003 has been 

chosen at the European Congress with approval of IFBB as venue site for the 

2003 Men’s European Championships. Invited by Vladimir Dubinin, Russian 

Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation President and Vice President of IFBB, I visited 

the City of the Zars to evaluate details and programs for this coming continental 

event. During my stay over there I was able to enjoy once again the beauties 

of this outstanding historical place that I had previously the opportunity to 

visit a long time ago joining President Weider at the time of the official recognition 

of Bodybuilding by Soviet Union. Now with a very different political situation, 

the city remains untouchable in regards with his unique art. Everything is

Dr. Un Yong Kim, President of the General International Sports 

Federation Assembly (GAISF), with Dr. Julio Maglione (IOC member), 

Dr. Mustapha Larfoul, President of the International 

Swimming Federation, and Rafael Santonja. IFBB is full member of 

the General International Sports Federation 

Assembly since 1971 and Dr. Un Yong Kim, President Ben Weider 

personal friend for a long time, has always played a very important 

and significant role in international support of the Sport of 

Bodybuilding.

Franco Fassi, one historical charismatic leader of IFBB together

Fassi plays a very active role in Bodybuilding in his position of IFBB 

Patron.

Petersburg in 2003 with the occasion of our European Championships. 

I hold meetings with Vladimir Dubinin and his executive staff and the nice assistance 

in translation of Mr.Vladimir????? We hold meetings with Parliament members 

and the city authorities and I left after a nice stay in Moscow Hotel, that will 

be the headquarter for EBFF during the Championships, I left the city with the 

complete conviction that we are going to have a great sport meeting and another 

good success for the sport of bodybuilding and the IFBB.

Attending the first Executive EBFF meeting organized by Stanislav Pesat, executive 

assistant to the EBFF President, as well as, President of the Bodybuilding a 

Czech Federation. The meeting was joined by Rafael Santonja, Penny Ioannidou- 

Leventeli , Stanislav Pesat, Pawel Filleborn Vladimir Dubinin, William Tierney, 

Andrey Dolgokir, Eva Sukupova, Alex Bauer, Igor Deliev, George Katulin ,Libor 

Minarik and among other topics it was decided 

1. Under the guidance and support of the IFBB, the development of more specific 

EBFF objectives. 

2. The establishment of educational programs, accreditations and certificates 

through local seminars and/or Internet interactive learning. 

3. The compliance of European National Federations with each country's sport 

laws. 

4. The European Event Schedule - Men's Fitness trials and new European 

Subcontinent Championships. 

5. Propositions for the IFBB International Congress in Cairo, Egypt. 

6. The establishment of a Bodybuilding Academy or a Foundation for Health and 

Power Studies, where the philosophy of bodybuilding will be adopted not only 

as a sport but also, as an advanced lifestyle. 

This meeting was a good opportunity to evaluate the extraordinary organizing 

capacity of the Czech Bodybuilding Federation that later on was a magnificent 

show up to all the world with a successful realization of the Women World 

Bodybuilding Fitness and Bodyfitness Championships in BRNO.

Representing IFBB at the Panamerican Sport Organization Meeting (ODEPA). A 

very important and meaningful meeting in which it was decided the Venue site 

for the 2007 Panamerican games to be held at the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 

I had the opportunity during this meeting to lobby with many IOC members and 

several Presidents of National Olympic Committees as well as to hold meetings 

with President Vazques Raña. Among other personalities that I met overthere it is 

important to mention IOC member Mr. Willy Kalsmith; Coronel Antonio 

Rodríguez, President of South American Games, Economista Danilo Carrera, 

President of Ecuatorian Olympic Committee; Mr. Nery Nery Carvajal, President 

of Central America Olympic Sports Association and Costa Rica Olympic 

Committee; Mr. Julio Rocha Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the next 

Central American Games; Dr. Jose Joaquin Pollock, President of the Organizing 

Committee for the next coming Panamerican Games; Pere Miro, Director of 

Olympic Solidarity, Reynaldo Gonzales, IOC member, and many other important 

members of the Olympic family.

Following up meetings with Olympic and International Federation Sports 

Officials.

Attending Women World Bodybuilding Fitness and, for the first time officially 

Bodyfitness IFBB Championships. Stanislav Pesat and his Organizing Committee 

performed an outstanding work with an event that was held at the Bobby Hotel 

in BRNO facility that gave the athletes the opportunity to have their accommodation 

at the same building of the venue site, all together with a magnificent fitness 

gym and huge facilities for all the additional events. Food quality coordina-


tion of scheduled was perfectly synchronized and the finals were covered by 4 

TV channels and several national and international journalists. Another important 

aspect of this competition was the organization of a test of a men fitness 

competition (BRNO International Cup) that was fulfilled with nice success and 

good expectation about the future possibilities of this attractive men modality 

that has a great potential to attract television. I was very pleased to present together 

with Pamela Kagan the gold medal to Stanislav Pesat in order to acknowledge 

his dedication and successful career as official in IFBB. 

In this event like it is used to happen in all our international meetings, IFBB had 

in the person of Tony Blinn, Chairman of Technical Committee an extraordinary 

guarantee of efficiency, support and first class coordination. 

BBAARRCCEELLOONNAA FFIITTFFOORRMM:: 

With the occasion of this trade show in Barcelona, it was organized important 

national IFBB events that had a great success of public attendance ant athlete 

participation. Fitform is a trade show organized since 9 years ago in Barcelona 

by Candido and Jose Moro. Their popularity and great capacity of convoking 

people constitute a very important part. It is a very prominent place to promote 

IFBB and bodybuilding. 

QQUUIITTOO,, EECCUUAADDOORR.. 

Realization of the Iberoamerican Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, 

organized by Angel Coba, President of the Ecuatorian Bodybuilding Federation 

that had the full support of Quito City Hall and Ecuatorian Olympic Committee 

(Economista Danilo Carrera, President of the Ecuatorian Olympic Committee, as 

we previously mentioned in this report is a long term friend and supporter of 

IFBB, giving always maximum support to our activities). Since its first edition at 

1984 in Buenos Aires, Iberoamerican Championhips is becoming an important 

sport meeting for athletes all over Central America, Caribean, South America and 

Spain. 

CCAAIIRROO,, EEGGYYPPTT.. 

Attending the 56 World Championships in Cairo, organized by IFBB Vice 

President, Eng. Adel Fahim EL Sayed, who in his capacity of Chairman of the 

Organizing Committee put all his very well proven capacity of dynamic leadership 

to arrange an outstanding World Championships and International Congress. 

Cairo, a unique city in the world because of its culture, historical sites keep 

becoming as well a popular place to hold international events. In fact Cairo and 

Egypt are very usual venue sites for first class international sports events due to 

the great sensitivity and strong support that the Egyptian Government and his 

President, his excellency Hosni Mubarak, give to sport events, as a unique way 

to build understanding, good relationships and peace between youngsters from 

all the world. 

I would like to finish this report conveying my gratitude and thanks to President 

Ben Weider CM.CQ.SBStJ.PhD. for his continuous support guidance, trust and 

inspiration. Many thanks as well to Pamela Kagan, Tony Blinn who from his position 

of Chairman of the Technical Committee is giving a tremendous assistance 

and important support to the Judges Committee and the overall IFBB organization, 

to Albert Busek IFBB Vice President for Europe and EBFF Honorary 

President, to Adel Fahim, who through his leading capacity IFBB is reaching the 

best level of activities and participation in its history at the African continent, and 

who has made it possible through his great dedication the current World 

Championships and Congress in Cairo; to Paul Chua; to Javier Pollock and 

Aquiles de Cesare for their efforts in the Latin America Area, Jim Manion, Warren 

Langman, Malih Alaywan, Paul Graham. Thank you, as well, to the Egyptian 

Government, Egyptian Sports authorities and Egyptian Olympic Committee for 

their support to the organizing committee of the World Championships and the 

support and promotion of the sports of bodybuilding in Egypt. 

Women World Championships in BRNO, was another great success for IFBB. The 

increased number of Competitors and countries is a clear demonstration of the consistent 

growth in popularity of our sport, specifically, the female division.
