OFFICIAL RACE GUIDE
Presented by:
Parking
There are many surface lots and parking garages within
four to six blocks of the Start and Finish Lines (Exhibit B).
These are the same lots that serve other major sporting
and entertainment events in Downtown Memphis. The
average charge should be $10. Obviously, those lots closest
to AutoZone Park and FedExForum will fill up first on
Race Morning. Plan to arrive early to familiarize yourself
with the area, find the bag check area (in AutoZone Park),
and be at the Start Line no later than 6:45 a.m.
Free Trolley Service on Saturday for
Race Participants
The Main Street Trolley will be operating on Race
Day beginning at noon and will offer free rides all day
(December 3 only) to those exhibiting their official race
number. The fee for non-runners is only $1.
Bag Check (for all races)
An area to check bags and other items will be located in
the Plaza of AutoZone Park starting at 6:30 a.m. on Race
Day (Exhibit C). We strongly urge you to pre-identify the
item with your race number before it is checked in order
to speed the process. Use the pre-numbered tab at the top
of your race number and affix it to the item with a plastic
tie available at the bag check area. After the race, you can
claim your item at the same location. The bag check area
closes at 3:30 p.m.
NOTE: There is no Bag Check at FedExForum.
Affixing Your Race Number and Timing Tag
Please use four safety pins to affix the number to the
front of your shirt or jacket. Your number must be visible
at the Start, Finish, and all points on the course so you
are not disqualified or asked to leave. Please do not fold
or cut your number. Pin only through the four small holes.
Do not pin the bottom tear-off portion of your number to
your shirt or jacket, and do not tear off any part of your
race number until those coupons are needed for specified
purposes. Your official time will be recorded by your
ChronoTrack “B” Race timing device (B-tag).
Your Timing B-tag replaces the D-tag used in past races.

Your B-tag is attached to your race number (Exhibit E).
Please make certain that the number on your B-tag
matches the number on your race number. If not, visit
the Solutions Desk at Packet Pickup. IMPORTANT:
Your B-tag is already affixed to your bib. It is not to be
removed for any reason. If your B-tag is not worn properly
throughout the race, you will not receive an official time.
What’s Prohibited
Unregistered runners, unauthorized vehicles, bicycles,
skateboards, in-line or roller skates, baby joggers or
strollers, and all animals are strictly prohibited on the
course to ensure runner safety and comply with liability
insurance requirements. Any type of unauthorized support
or pacing will not be allowed including, but not limited to,
support from a vehicle (fluid bottles, splits, etc.), as such
support will be considered an unfair advantage. Noncompliance
will result in immediate disqualification.
What about headphones? Headphones and other electronic
listening devices are allowed, but not recommended to
ensure your safety and the safety of others around you on
sometimes-crowded city streets shared by auto traffic. You
need to stay alert and aware of your surroundings and be
able to hear emergency vehicles, special announcements
made by course monitors, etc.
Runner Tracking
We now offer runner tracking for friends and family to
keep track of where their runner is on the course.
Runner tracking will provide updates at each split
in addition to estimated finish times. Please visit
the Info Booth at the Expo or AutoZone Park or visit
stjudemarathon.org for details.
THE START
Time and Location
The Memphis Grizzlies House 5K starts at 7:15 a.m. and
the Start Line is located at Third Street at Beale Street.
(See Exhibit A). We strongly recommend you be in place
no later than 6:45 a.m. Faster runners should line up at
the front and slower runners towards the rear. For safety
reasons, all walkers should be at the back.
Water and Restrooms
Water and restroom facilities are available off the main
lobby of FedExForum (Third Street entrance).
Discarded Clothing
Clothing and other personal items discarded at the Start
will be collected and donated to a qualified charity. Items
collected anywhere on the course will be thrown away as
trash. The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend cannot be
responsible for items left on the course or at bag check.
2
Race Results
Official results for the Open (Overall) Division of all races,
including Memphis Grizzlies House 5K, will be based on
the actual order of finish (“gun time”). All other results,
including the award trophies and plaques, will be based
on “B-tag time.” “B-tag time” is defined as the duration of
time from the moment a runner crosses the mats at the Start
until the moment that runner crosses the mats at the Finish.
Preliminary results will be posted on boards displayed in
the Plaza of AutoZone Park. Please check these results to
validate your time, especially if you expect to be an award
winner. After 2:00 p.m. on Race Day, all uncontested
results will be considered final.
Preliminary results will also be posted to our website
approximately 24 hours after the completion of the races.
ON THE COURSE
St. Jude Campus Construction
One of the greatest highlights of the Marathon and Half
Marathon is the opportunity to run through the St. Jude
campus. Due to the construction of a major new building,
there will only be two lanes available inside the campus
instead of four lanes as in previous years. Please be aware
that the part of the course between mile marks 4 and 5 will
be a bit more congested.
On-Course Support
Aid Stations will be near mile marks 1 and 2 with water,
Powerade, Vaseline, Band-Aids, and portable toilets
available. If you have not trained with Powerade or used it
before, it is recommended that you use it with caution.
Split time clocks will be at every mile mark.
Traffic control will be directed by the Memphis Police
Department. Runners should be aware of vehicular traffic,
particularly at all intersections. While police traffic
control is planned at all major intersections and numerous
others along the course, it is impossible to cover the entire
course. PLEASE STAY ALERT! Course monitors and
directional personnel will also be at appropriate locations.
The Memphis Grizzlies House 5K course is rolling with a
unique downhill finish from Monroe Avenue into AutoZone
Park, our city’s AAA baseball stadium. When entering the
ballpark, turn right for the Finish Line in left field, which
is the same as used for the Half Marathon. Anyone leaving
the course – except to use the toilet or receive medical
attention – will be guilty of an unfair advantage and
immediately disqualified.
If You Need to Drop Out
Runners unable to complete the race will be transported
back to AutoZone Park. RUNNERS WHO DO NOT
COMPLETE THE ENTIRE COURSE MUST NOT CROSS

THE FINISH LINE. Once transportation is requested, it is
important that runners not leave the scene by other means
so that their safety and whereabouts may be accounted for.
Course Closing
The course officially closes at 8:30 a.m. when police
protection on the course ceases and vehicular
traffic resumes.
Medical Aid
We urge medical caution by all runners, particularly firsttimers.
Do not go beyond your physical limit.
If you have medical conditions that you wish known in case
of emergency (such as dentures, illness, special conditions,
allergies, medications, blood type, etc.), write them in
waterproof ink (Sharpie marker) on the special form found
on the reverse side of your race number.
A doctor and nurse-staffed Aid Station will be located near
the Finish Line in the basement level of AutoZone Park.
Runners are advised to drink plenty of liquids during the
run. Drink in small quantities early and often, especially
if the weather is warm. Do not wait until you are thirsty.
If you are drinking both water and some form of a fluid
replacement drink, you should maintain a sensible balance
to ensure proper electrolyte balance.
Runners should notify Aid Station personnel of any
injured or ill runner requiring assistance. A runner who
appears to be suffering from a life-threatening condition,
such as heat stroke, may be examined by a qualified race
official to determine the seriousness of the problem. No
disqualification will result from such action, even if the
examination is “hands on,” provided the course covered by
the runner has not been shortened or substantially altered
in the examination process. A runner who, in the qualified
race official’s opinion, is in control of his/her faculties will
be permitted to decide whether to finish, while one who is
not will be removed from the race regardless of whether
such action could result in a possible loss of prize.
Photographers
MarathonFoto will take photos of runners on the course
and at the Finish Line. At AutoZone Park, you’ll also have
an opportunity to have your picture taken with Elvis,
perhaps Memphis’ most famous citizen. Photo prints may
be ordered from our website, stjudemarathon.org in the
“Souvenirs” section.
THE FINISH
When You Enter AutoZone Park
Make sure you turn right when entering the stadium for
the correct Finish Line along the left field warning track.
Make certain that your race number is pinned on your front
and completely visible for race officials and photographers.
So that your finish time can be recorded, it is vital that
you cross the mats at the Finish Line (and that you are wearing
your B-tag Timing Device). Do not cross the Finish Line a
second time. Runners not completing their designated race
must not cross the Finish Line. Do not permit family or friends
to cross with you as this will cause you to be disqualified.
RACE SUPERVISION, ELECTRONIC TIMING AND
SCORING ARE UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE
MEMPHIS RUNNERS TRACK CLUB. ALL OF ITS
DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
After Crossing the Finish Line
After crossing your respective Finish Line, you will be
awarded your finisher’s medal and given a bottle of water.
Medical assistance also will be available if needed.
You will then be directed to sets of steps to exit the field
and access the Post-Race Runner Food & Beverage areas
(and bag check). Please do not rendezvous with family and
friends at the top of the steps as this creates a bottleneck
for all participants.
When you enter the Post-Race Food & Beverage area,
please exhibit your race number and have the appropriate
tab at the bottom of your race number ready to tear off
and give to a volunteer monitoring the entry point.
There is no entry without the tab, and the area is for race
participants only. Once you leave the Food & Beverage
area, there is no re-entry.
Reunion Area
The Reunion Area is located in the Plaza of AutoZone
Park. We suggest you discuss with family and/or friends
in advance the general location where you want to meet
(Exhibit C).
Race Results
Preliminary results will be posted throughout Race Day
in the Plaza of AutoZone Park as well as on the event’s
website within 24 hours after the completion of the
event. Official results will also be sent to the local media,
national running publications and the USAT&F Road
Running Information Center.
Trophies and Awards
Trophies will be presented to the top three male and
female finishers in the Open (Overall) Division only of the
Marathon, Half Marathon, and Memphis Grizzlies House 5K
races at the Awards Ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on Race Day at
Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street.
Trophies earned in the Masters, Grand Masters, Senior
Masters, Wheelchair, and Shelby County Resident Divisions
will be mailed to winners within 10 days following the event.
Plaques earned by age group winners are personalized and
take longer to produce. Expect these to be mailed 45 to
3

60 days after the event. Refer to the “Race Information”
section of stjudemarathon.org for complete information.
Certificate of Completion
Visit stjudemarathon.org within two weeks following the
event for information about how you may obtain your
personalized certificate of completion.
Showers
Men’s and women’s locker rooms with showers are available
on the lower level of AutoZone Park. Access to the locker
rooms is only via the elevators or stairs located on the
Concourse Level. Runners must provide their own soap
and towels.
Info Booth and Lost & Found
If you need information or directions, or have a question of
any kind, our Info Booth is located in AutoZone Park just as
you enter the stadium’s Concourse Level.
4
The Info Booth also serves as our central Lost and Found.
Items not claimed by 3:00 p.m. on Race Day will be
returned to the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend office
and discarded or donated to charity if not claimed within
five working days following the races.
AFTER THE RACES
