The report which follows is the work of John Barker, an OLBA Board member who is responsible for the achievement
awards given out to deserving bowlers in provincial lawn bowling community. Editor.
ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS REPORT
2011 was a rewarding year. It is the year in which I accepted this position from Rosemary
Stadnyk. I wish to thank Rosemary who got me started. There are several other
Board members to whom I also owe a sincere ‘Thank you’. My thanks to Ryan Stadnyk
who provided me the Beaver and Big Shot Pins. I am also grateful to our Treasurer,
Rich Peart, for handling the cheques. Arja Nesbitt was wonderful as I struggled to get
myself settled to the new task. She helped in more ways than one, in guiding me along
the way. Arja, your guidance was very much appreciated. I also wish to say to the
Board of Directors, ‘thank you’ for letting me take over this important task.
To all the Club contacts who reached out to me. thank-you for assisting me by providing
me with the information that I needed. It was only because of what you did that I
was able to get back to you in a timely manner in what you requested. To all the award
winners who received the pins, certificates, and plaques, ‘Congratulations’. To all the
club volunteers, a huge thank-you for your dedication and hard work. It is the work
you do that allows the clubs to succeed.
Back in June and July, as you will recall, there was a Canada Postal strike. However, I
didn’t let that deter me from the work I had to do. For those clubs which are close to
my home club I was able to connect and hand deliver plaques, certificates, and some
pins.
May I offer a friendly remainder to any club official who wishes to request a future
award for their club or member and you want to know the prerequisites for the award
you wish to request. Please, check the OLBA website www.olba.ca under the awards
section before contacting me. All the information is there that you need to provide me
before I can process your requests. When you locate the award form that meets your
needs, you must print it out. I can only work with a completed hard copy of the form.
Include a cheque payable to the OLBA if it is requested on the form for the award you
want. Send the completed form and cheque to me at my postal address. My postal address
is in the Annual.
To the club Officials: Please remember that you and I have to work together. I need a
reasonable timeline for getting your requests to you. Don’t set impossible dates and expect
me to meet them. Also, send me just one postal address for me to use to get back
to you. Thank you.
