International Representatives
Two ex Brighton Special Interest Volleyball students were
recently named in the 2012 Australian Olympic Volleyball
Team. They are Nathan Roberts and Greg Sukochev and
showed their volleyball potential from Yr 8 in the SIV
Program.
They are wonderful role models for our current students who
are watching and cheering them on!
Nathan Roberts—Class of 2003
Nathan played international Volleyball when he represented Australia at 17 years
of age in Greece at the Under 18 World Beach Volleyball Championships.
Subsequently he commenced Indoor Volleyball at the Australian Institute of Sport
in 2002 and played his first Indoor Senior game for Australia in 2004. He has now
played 235 games for Australia, having represented Australia in 2 World
Championships and 3 Asian Championships and now in the 2012 Olympics.
At the recent Asian Championships in Iran, 16 Nations battled for honours with
Australia finishing 4 th . Nathan was awarded “Spiker of the Tournament” for his
excellent attacking for the duration of the tournament.
Greg Sukochev Class of 2005 SIV—Program Captain
Greg says that he owes a great deal to Brighton Secondary School. The
program itself fostered my passion for the sport . It was well run and
provided me with the opportunity to touch the ball daily and enjoy playing a
sport. The skills I learned there gave me a good base to carry on at the AIS
Sam Willoughby—Class of 2009
Another ex Brighton Volleyball student, Sam Willoughby is also participating
in the 2012 Olympics in the sport of BMX Racing.
Bec Reeve—Current Year 12 Student
During part of June and July, I travelled with the Australian Junior Beach
Volleyball Development Tour where we spent two weeks in Holland training
and getting ready for the U19 World Youth Championship in Cyprus. There I
played against Guinea, Niger, USA, Cyprus and Austria winning 3 of the 5
games and finishing equal 9th.
This was a wonderful opportunity and experience that I will never forget .
Rachel Reeve—Current Year 9 Student
After competing in the AJVC competition with the U17 State Team, I and 13
other girls from all over Australia travelled to Horsham, Victoria to compete in
the ‘Australian Jenny Kirk Trans Tasman Series’. We played New Zealand in a
test series of 3 games and overall lost the cup 2 games to 1. It was a very fun
competition and an experience that I won’t forget.
