Jet Fire Pro 120
Flexible Fire Protection Insulation Jacketing System

The Jet Fire Pro 120 is the world’s thinnest
and most innovative flexible fire protection
Jacketing system offering 120 minutes of
life saving protection.

The Piper Alpha disaster marked a turning point
in the industry and this is where the journey of
the Jet Fire Pro 120 begins.
Lessons had to be learnt
167 people died on the Piper Alpha
oil platform. The tragedy unfolded
when a safety valve removed for
maintenance caused a gas leak
which ignited and exploded.
Three further explosions were
caused by ruptures in the pipeline
connecting Piper Alpha to other
platforms. From start to finish, the
entire disaster took just 22 minutes
to play out - leaving little time
to evacuate.
New regulations
An inquiry into the disaster by Lord
Cullen made 106 recommendations
with more than half of these around
evacuation, escape and rescue.
To satisfy these new regulations
a new product was launched on
the market – flexible fire rated
insulation jackets for offshore
pipe work. Designed primarily to
protect against the spread of fire,
the jackets work by insulating
offshore pipe work against the heat
extremes of a jet fire - therefore
delaying the type of devastating
pipe ruptures that occurred
in Piper.

Our dedicated team went through more than
two years of research and development to find
the perfect design and construction for the
Jet Fire Pro 120.
Life saving protection
Advanced Industrial Solutions’ Jet
Fire Pro 120 Jacketing System is
the most advanced passive fire
protection flexible jacketing system
available on the market today. The
Jet Fire Pro 120 Jacketing system
has been certified by Lloyds Register
to ISO 22899 Standard to withstand
hydrocarbon jet fire temperatures
up to 1,350°C for a minimum period
of two hours with the pipe face
temperature well below 200°C. Test
results shows the system could
provide protection for much longer.
Design
At less than 60mm deep,
Jet Fire Pro 120 is 2-3 times thinner
than alternative fire protection
systems making it easier to install
and transport. Our state of the art
fully automated CAD design and
CNC manufacturing ensures that
we are able to manufacture the
most complex jacketing systems
highly efficiently in order to
provide a system to suit the exact
dimensions of equipment from
Emergency Shutdown valves and
actuators to large complex vessels.
The Jet Fire Pro 120 jacketing is
constructed from 13 specialist
material layers including the
unique AIS Weather Pro weather
protective outer covering for
external use and against the harsh
environments within the offshore
oil and gas industry. The Jet Fire
Pro 120 jacketing system is secured
with heavy duty stainless steel
316 banding straps and includes
provision for expansion.
”The Jacket is used to protect emergency shutdown
valves, actuators and associated equipment from jet
and hydrocarbon fires, thereby ensuring that they do
not fail and that workers have time to escape.”
Paul Stonebanks, Managing Director

The jackets was awarded coveted type-approval
by Lloyds Register due to it’s outstanding
performance during testing.
Testing & certification
The Jet Fire Pro 120 Insulation jacket range has
been extensively tested for its resistance to Jet
fires at the Spadeadam UK test site in Cumbria.
This tests the jacketing for a period of 2 hours
or until the thermocouple inside the test pipe
reaches 200°C.
Following tests the Jet Fire Pro 120 jacket kept
the core temperature well below this limit with
results suggesting the system would provide
protection for a much longer period.
1. Before
The Jet Fire Pro 120 in
place ready for testing
2. During
Tested for 2 hours at
temperatures of up to
1,350°C
3. After
Following 2 hours
of testing the core
temperature was
significantly lower than
the test limit
Based upon test data
we estimate that
the Jet Fire Pro 120
would have provided
protection for a
minimum of 3
live saving hours.
