According to the title of the 16th World Business
Dialogue - „Next Generation Business Strategies
- Finding New Ways to Succeed“,
one important topic of the convention
will focus on „Global Entrepreneurship“.
Young entrepreneurs who establish
their own business are
not too special these days, although
founding a company
is always accompanied by a
great risk. Founders always
invest a lot into their growing
businesses - a lot of
effort and money.
But still, it is worth a try.
Entrepreneurs are innovators
and revolutionaries,
tracing probable trends
and sometimes even
creating new markets.
Always being up to
date, they do not fear
risks and take occurring chances.
To be able to do so, they often need help to take
the first steps from the basic idea to a marketable
concept. Therefore there are many possibilities
of networking among startups by participating in
startup conventions or working in the rooms of an
incubator to constantly interact with other entrepreneurs.

Pre-Dialogue, we will have
several teams experiencing
what it is like to be a entrepreneur
by founding a
startup by themselves.
Besides, Jens Bosse
Parra in his workshop
will teach a lesson on
„How to Incubate Startups on a Global
Scale“.
During the two days lasting Dialogue here in Cologne,
an upcoming paradise for startups, we all
take the chance to not only get an overview on
startups and how they work, but also to get caught
by the great spirit uniting all entrepreneurs - and
maybe find the founder in ourselves.

Creating Careers

Today, 12th of March, Cologne for the fourth time
since 2010 is the place to be, for motivated, aspiring
students and companies in search for young
talents. At this year’s Dialogue Career Fair 700
national and 300 international students come together
with more than twenty of the most prestigious
companies.
Nevertheless, regarding the sheer overflow of
Career Fairs nowadays – in which way does the
Dialogue Career Fair distinctly stand out?
First of all the mere application procedure implies
a win-win situation. Due to the beforehand
screening, on the fair, companies are only confronted
with a selection of high motivated students
and are enabled to conscientiously choose
the composure of their workshops. This idea also
works the other way around as students specify
before the Fair where their main interests lay.
Yet in spite of the strictly professional context,
there are once again a few new ideas being realized
in order to spice things up a little. For the purpose
of spurring on the interaction and ensuring
that the right people come together, at this years´
fair the new Live-Matching-System is put to
a test-run. There will be portable iPads all over
the campus, which students can use to fill out a
questionnaire and learn their matching percentage
with each company. This way, the self- assessment
of the students is matched with the approaches
of the companies to improve the quality and the
efficiency of the interviews.
In addition there are also corporations which provide
exciting new impulses of a different kind, as
for example the Evonik Industry AG by hosting an
acting workshop or Ernst & Young United States
making their debut and offering students an international
workshop.
Consequently it is not the immense volume that
distinguishes the Dialogue Career Fair, but its
excellent selection of students and only the most
interesting and motivated associate companies
which generate not only the standard but also the
realization of our event.
So this year we are very glad that we could again
rely on several of our long-time partners like the
Daimler AG, organising a special international
workshop, and Arvato, which has set up a coffee
lounge on the campus that students should not
miss.
To sum it up, it is a great pleasure to welcome our
longstanding sponsors and partners as well as the
companies joining the Dialogue Career Fair for the
first time this year.
Therefore the stage is set for a successful day of
getting to know each other, engaging in personal
interviews, testing one’s abilities in demanding
workshops and maybe even for a promising job
prospect.
The Dialogue Career Fair has clearly become an
imperative landmark for driven students as well as
the industry.

Students Connect

The perfect match of students and their future
employer seems to be one of the most difficult
challenges of today´s job market, especially in
economics. In order to ease the magnitude of this
challenge, the Students Connect AG invented a
platform, on which students
as well as companies are able
to search for their perfect
match.
The matching process of Students
Connect implies five
steps. First, the student searching
for an employer compiles
an online profile on the
platform. The second step
considers the companies –
they have to upload a profile
as well. Having these two
types of profiles online, the
matching process begins.
The base of the recruiting-approach
is the matching
score. The platform searches automatically for accordance
of the students and the companies indications.
In case of a high percentage of the
accordance, the student and the company are informed
and asked for the permission for the release
of their information. The last step contains the
matching of the information and the connection
of the student and the company.

This approach of recruiting
leads the way for the whole
sector into a new direction.

The Dialogue Team
Behind the Scenes

Business in practise might not always be the same
as in theory. This is what the 44 members of the
Dialogue Team learned during the last year. Coming
from university, they all knew a lot about
businesses – from books. By organising the world‘s
largest student-run business convention, they
added some real-life experiences to their theoretical
framework.
The OFW is a non-profit organisation completely
run by students. Since last April they planned
everything about the World Business Dialogue,
from finances to international relations, from
sponsoring to corporate participants, convention
topic and speakers, convention management,
convention design, human resources and corporate
communication. This surely demands a lot of
reliability, sense of responsibility and last but not
least passion. And this the team has in common
- Every single one of them is committed to one
and the same idea: the World Business Dialogue.
Only with their motivation and engagement they
managed to work for the OFW besides university,
internships and jobs - although everything but the
OFW has lost importance in the last few weeks.
But the OFW is more than just work: On boat
trips, dinner parties, team events and workshops
the team grew together like a family. Or more like
roommates since they all more or less lived in the
OFW-office for the last months - don‘t worry, the
bureau has a kitchen and a lounge as well, so it‘s
pretty comfortable to live in.
But now this year‘s Dialogue Team left the office
for good. The days before the convention they moved
their office - or at least everything that‘s in
it - to the Dialogue-area. Just now it becomes reality,
it‘s not any more months or weeks, it’s there.
The Dialogue starts! It‘s not any more just visions,
documents or plans, everything is assuming a definite
form. The tension rises among the team: Although
the main part of planning, organising and
preparing is done, just now everyone will see the
result of nearly one year of hard work. The World
Business Dialogue!
