About Michael Puhl
Michael Puhl started working in horseshoeing in 1974,
and thus can look back on more than 30 years of
experience in horseshoeing. Triggered by his every-day
shoeing experience Michael Puhl realized soon, that the
traditional shoeing techniques failed to solve the most
vital hoof problems.
Therefore he studied further, discussed cases with
veterinarians and thus developed the PM horseshoeing
technique in 1999. Today, his product developments
are sold and applied successfully all over the world.
Users of PM products are not only private customers
with horses for competitive sport or recreation,
but also veterinarians, horse clinics, farriers and professional
trainers of various disciplines in equestrian
sports.
The PM Horse Shoeing Techniques are regularly
shown on International congresses of farriers, on
fairs and in horse clinics.
The PM Hoof Clips for Treating
All Varieties of Horn Cracks
The unique expanding and tightening mechanism, which
is the core of the well proven and patented PM Hoof Clips
Regular and Special, makes it possible to adjust them
to the very last millimetre after mounting. According to
the requirements, you can tighten the hoof crack or even
expand it, if the outer lamina is trapped in the crack.
Acute horn crack, treated
with PM Hoof Clip Regular
and PM Hoof Pad Wedge for
relieving heels and horn crack.
The PM Hoof Clips Special have been developed from
the PM Hoof Clip Regular, which has been sold more than
7.000 times worldwide. Several pre-drilled holes offer much
fl exibility and hold. The versions HW (heel wall) and the
fl exible BF (butterfl y) have one expanding and tightening
mechanism; the version TW (toe wall) is equipped with two
mechanisms.
The PM Hoof Clip Stable offers an additional fi xing of
minimal hoof cracks. There are two in the set, one with
a convex and one with a concave notch for small adjustments
after mounting.
This hoof has grown again healthily, after a fi ttingly ground
PM Hoof Clip Special TW had been applied 6 months before.
This hoof has been shoed 8 weeks before and still shows an
outer hoof wall up in the air that has been created by selectively
grinding away the PM Hoof Pad Wedge. The hoof is well
supported, although the outer wall does not bear weight.
Like a Good Sports Shoe
Whether for competitive equestrian sport or recreation,
the PM horse shoeing technique is ideal
for prevention and treatment of navicular syndrome
and hoof problems in general. It improves leg
balance and conformation, optimises load distribution
over the hoof and facilitates the equine foot’s
natural functioning. Like a good sports shoe,
the PM horse shoeing technique offers a stable
support in standing and in locomo tion as well as
a sound shock absorbance.
Horses with early navicular infl ammations immediately
stop going lame (success rate 90%, basis:
more than 400 horses in own client base) and
can fully be used again. Tension on the heels
disappears and underrun or contracted heels
grow back naturally.
The PM Hoof Pads:
Ground Contact is Essential
The specialty of the PM Hoof Pads (Wedge or Flat) is
its frog-shaped cavity, which provides proper ground
contact in combination with PM Hoof Packings. This
facilitates a natural load distribution over the hoof, with
the lower wall edge, bars and frog bearing weight. That
supports the whole rear part of the hoof and reduces
strain and stretching of the navicular area. The hoof
horn can grow again evenly. Furthermore, every stride
stimulates the blood circulation in the digital cushion
and the navicular area and thus enhances their shock
absorbing quality.
The frog-shaped cavity of the PM Hoof Pad in the inner
part always provides enough space for the frog – even
if the frog has strongly developed.
The combination of
PM Hoof Pad Wedge and
PM Hoof Packing Soft
provides much stability
for the rear part of the
hoof and optimal shock
absorbance.
The PM Hoof Pad Wedge Offers more than
a Correction of the Hoof-Pastern-Axis
The PM Hoof Pad Wedge offers, like any wedge-shaped
pad, the opportunity to correct the hoof-pastern-axis. In
addition, it is a well-proven technique to regenerate heels
and improve leg balance.
In application of this technique, the heels are trimmed
just so much that fi tting in the PM Hoof Pad Wedge does
not alter the correct hoof-pastern-axis. This extends the
heels’ bearing surface greatly and distributes the specifi c
pressure at the heels on a larger area. Thus the heels
grow again healthily; the toe will remain at the correct
angle throughout the shoeing interval.
Furthermore, the leg balance improves, because the
enlargement shifts the hoof’s bearing surface closer to
the limb’s weight bearing axis.
The PM Hoof Pad Flat offers horses with normal heels
a natural, optimal load distribution and support of the
posterior region of the hoof.
The PM Hoof Packings Soft and Regular
The worldwide proven PM Hoof Packings are high-tech
two-component silicons that are easy and clean to work
with (you do not need gloves).
Compared to many other hoof packings on the market the
PM hoof packings do not stick to hoof and pad and thus
do not hamper the foot’s natural function and balance in
locomotion.
They are available in two grades of rigidity, Regular and
Soft, at which the version PM Hoof Packing Regular is
as stable as a sole and as elastic as a frog.
The popular PM Hoof Packing Soft is, compared to
the Regular type, especially soft, lightweight and shock
absorbing. It is ideal for feet that are sensitive to sole
pressure, such as laminitic feet.
The worldwide proven PM Hoof
Packing Soft is particularly soft
and lightweight. It is easy and
clean to work with and does not
stick to the hoof.
The PM Horse Shoeing Techniques Offer:
Prevention and treatment of navicular syndrome
and hoof problems in general
