Christian Katz, CEO, <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong><br />

Christian Katz is Chief Executive Officer of <strong>SIX</strong> Group’s Cash Markets Division. The<br />

Division encompasses <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> and <strong>SIX</strong> Exfeed, a leading supplier of<br />

raw financial data. <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> also operates several joint ventures including<br />

Scoach, which is Europe’s first exchange to specialize solely in structured<br />

financial products, <strong>Swiss</strong> Fund Data and STOXX, the European leader in financial<br />

market indices and Indexium, the recently founded company providing state-ofthe-art<br />

index calculation services.<br />

Before joining <strong>SIX</strong> Group in early 2009, Christian Katz headed the representative<br />

office of Goldman Sachs International in Switzerland, where he focused on the<br />

firm’s institutional equity and derivatives business. Before that, he spent eight<br />

years with JP Morgan Chase in London, where he was initially responsible for<br />

institutional equity sales to <strong>Swiss</strong> clients and later the Head of Research Marketing<br />

for Europe. He was also actively involved in international banking as a result of his<br />

previous positions at London Forfaiting Company and SBC Warburg in Zurich,<br />

London and Hong Kong. Christian Katz holds a Masters in Business and Finance<br />

and a PhD in Finance from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.<br />

Driving Down Latency in Supercomputers and Commercial Applications<br />

David Müller, Member of Management, Supercomputing Systems AG<br />

David Müller joined Supercomputing Systems (SCS) in 1999. As CTO and Department<br />

Head for High Performance Systems he is responsible for SCS’s projects to<br />

develop dedicated low latency networks for both scientific and commercial applications.<br />

David holds a PhD in High Energy Particle Physics.<br />

Supercomputing Systems is a spin-off company from ETHZ, founded in 1993. Our<br />

current staff encompasses 70+ highly skilled engineers and scientists. SCS provides<br />

professional R&D services to a wide range of customers in Switzerland,<br />

Europe and in the US. The field of applications developed at SCS includes optimized<br />

code for weather prediction, smart vision sensors for car driver assistance<br />

systems and control systems for active medical devices.


Latency in the Real World – The Game of Truth or Dare<br />

Donal Byrne, CEO, Corvil<br />

Donal Byrne is the CEO of Corvil, and has over twenty five years experience working<br />

in the field of high performance computer and network communication systems.<br />

Donal joined Corvil in 2000 as the non-executive Chairman and since 2002<br />

he has served as CEO driving the company to a leading position in latency management<br />

for high performance trading systems.<br />

Prior to Corvil, Donal was the Chief Marketing Officer of FirstMark Communications,<br />

an alternate broadband service provider in Europe. In 1996, Donal cofounded<br />

Berkeley Networks in Silicon Valley, which was acquired in 1998 by Fore<br />

Systems, a leader in Internet switching. He was senior vice president of marketing<br />

at Fore Systems until the company was acquired a year later by GEC. Between<br />

1993 and 1996, he was director of architecture and product management at Bay<br />

Networks (formerly Synoptics and Wellfleet), responsible for development of<br />

next-generation routers and switches. Donal joined Synoptics from Digital Equipment<br />

Corporation in Boston, where he led hardware and software engineering<br />

development on a wide range of data switching and Internet routing products.<br />

Donal holds a B.E. and M.Eng.Sc. degrees from University College, Dublin. He is<br />

a frequent speaker at industry conferences and events, and has numerous publications<br />

and patents in the field of high performance computing and low-latency<br />

network communication systems.<br />

Trade Faster than You Can Blink<br />

Chris Landis, Head Operations, <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong><br />

Chris Landis was elected to the <strong>SIX</strong> <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> Management Committee in<br />

2003 and is Head of the Operations Division. He has been employed by the <strong>SIX</strong><br />

<strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong> and its predecessor organizations since 1993. Chris Landis bore<br />

operational responsibility for the EBS project infrastructure.<br />

Prior to becoming Head of the Member Support Center in 1995, he was in charge<br />

of developing and conducting educational courses for trader representatives and<br />

system administrators. In the capacity of Senior Vice President, Chris Landis has<br />

been in charge of the Information Technology Division since 1999, with a major<br />

focus on developmental and external IT projects. After graduating with a Type B<br />

Matura in Zurich in 1978, Chris Landis continued studying in the fields of human<br />

medicine, information technology and economics.
