Premier Intermediate Hurling League
On Tuesday March 12th the Rovers PIH team travelled
to Aghada to play their re-arranged league game under
lights. This was the Rovers first outing of the season.
Playing without our college students and promising
minors who were also in action on the night we still
had twenty players togged out.On a crisp, clear night
the lads started well and showed great determination
to get on the ball. With the forwards and mid field
moving sharply and the backs sticking close to their
men we registered some early scores through long
range points from Jeremy Hurley, Richie Butler and
Kevin Canty. The Rovers dominated the game till the
short whistle and courtesy of two Tadhg Fitzgerald
goals led at the break by 2.06 – 0.03
The second half was of the same order with the Rovers
fitness beginning to tell. The teams traded a couple of
points before the Rovers began introducing some
players off the bench. Aghada struggled to cope with
the Rovers ability to spread the play wide with some
crisp ball striking. While Aghada did have a few further
scores the Rovers added points also through Bill
Hawkes, Joe Lynch, Eamon Collins, Tadhg Fitzgerald
and a good strike from John Burke to the Aghada net
killed the game as a contest. Final score: Aghada 0.07 –
Valley Rovers 3.13. Prominent for the Rovers in what
was a good team performance were: Conor Lynch,
Chris O’Donovan, Fergal Coughlan, Jeremy Hurley, Bill
Hawkes, Tadhg Fitzgerald and Richie Butler. The starting
team on the night was:
Willie Burke,
Noel O’Donovan, David Lynch, Conor Lynch
C O’Riordan Chris O’Donovan (Capt.) Fergal Coughlan
Darragh Crowley, Jeremy Hurley,
Joe Lynch (R’Hill), Kevin Canty, Richie Butler
Bill Hawkes, Eamon Collins, Tadhg Fitzgerald
Subs used: John Burke for Joe Lynch, Tim Cummins for
Eamon Collins, Shane Hallahan for Richie Butler,Don
Lynch for Fergal Coughlan & Denis Collins for Bill
Hawkes.
On Saturday 16th March our under 14 squad ably
assisted by 9 of our u13 partook in the Rebel Og Feile
Peil 2013.
The group consisted of Na Piarsaigh, Bishospstown,
Kilmurry, Youghal and Valley Rovers. As Youghal didn’t
show upon the day there was a total of 3 matches
played in the group. Our first match was against
Kilmurry kicked off at 12.15 just after the arrival of
some of the squad from a match in the city in another
discipline. At Half time Valley rovers were ahead 3 -2 to
0-1. In the 2nd half Kilmurry scored 3-2 versus 0-3 for
Valley rovers but at full time Valley Rovers won by 3-5
to 3-3.
The 2nd match was played v Na Piarsaigh with Valleys
leading at half time 2-1 to 1-3. However in the 2nd half
Na Piarsaigh score 2-3 v Valley Rovers 1-2. Considering
the difference in grading between the 2 clubs the final
score of 3-6 to 3-3 was a good result for Valleys with a
sterling effort by all involved.
In the final match in the group v Bishopstown, the
tiredness and perhaps the lack of lunch / food intake
saw the best efforts of the combined U13/U14 squad
being insufficient to get a better result against another
club of higher grading than ourselves. Final score
Bishopstown 7-4 Valley Rovers 0-1.
Many thanks to all who helped on the day including
our always reliable and regular crew from the U13
squad and Adam Healy’s younger brother Max who
helped out by making up the required numbers for our
planned 1st match v Youghal when we had only 13
available. Despite the results on the day, the
achievement of a win over our old rivals Kilmurry and
by putting up a great show v Na Piarsaigh is very
positive for the football season ahead.

Minor Football League
Our minor footballers continued on their winning ways
with a hard fought victory against Ballincollig on
Tuesday night. Valleys played second fiddle to
Ballincollig for long periods of this match and trailed at
half-time 05 to 03pts. Ballincollig pulled away early in
the second half, leading 1-7 to 0-5 with 12mins left.
Valleys responded well with Stephen O Shea scoring a
goal after a great run by Jack Murphy and Valleys
sealed the win with a second goal by Jack Lyons. The
final score was 2-8 to 1-7. Best for Valleys, Brian O
Leary, Ian Crowley, Johnny Kiely and Jack Lyons
U12 Hurling
Valleys U12’s got their season up and running with a
hurling challenge games against Ballygarvan last Friday
night. Playing some good hurling for their first night out
Valleys emerged victorious in 2 games and lost 2
games. We have been training for the past 5 weeks in
the indoor hall in Cloughduv and the lads showed some
good touches at times and we had a great turnout of 24
players.
Panel: Darragh Keane, Cathal O’Sullivan, George
Dear Coach/Selector,
As I am sure you aware, it is a requirement that all under age mentors be vetted
by the Gardai regarding their suitability as a coach/mentor for our underage players.
As your Garda Vetting Officer, I wish to facilitate this process as speedily as possible.
It is my intention that every mentor should be at least at the stage where their form
has been sent to the GAA through their vetting officer. I wish to complete this process
before the end of March, so I am requesting that all outstanding forms be sent to me
by Friday March 22nd.
The vetting itself is taking a long time, typically months, but our immediate obligation is to get all mentor forms into the
system so that they are in the process of being vetted. If you are already vetted then you must give your vetting officer a
copy of your return letter from the Gardaí. I will keep these on file on behalf of the club. The vetting process is not complete
until you do this. If you have been vetted and have such a letter, then please send me a copy as soon as possible.
Various mentors are at different stages of the process. Some forms have been sent to the GAA, many of you will have a form
which has not yet been processed. No matter which stage of the process you are at, please see the full process below.
All mentors must complete a Garda Vetting Application form which can be found HERE
You must complete the vetting process even if you have been vetted by another organisation previously. Submit your fully
completed form to me before Friday March 22 nd. See below for some tips on completing the forms. Once the form is
complete, I will send it to the Coiste Na Nóg Youth Officer, Marc Sheehan. Marc sends them on to the Garda Vetting Unit on
behalf of the GAA. The result of the vetting is transmitted to you personally by the Gardaí. Therefore, you must make the
result known to your vetting officer and give him/her a copy of the Garda correspondence for club records. Vetting is
deemed to be valid for up to five years.
Tips on Filling out the form:
1. Ensure that you answer all questions or put in N/A. Blanks will probably mean the form will be sent back.
2. Fill out all addresses from year of birth to present date. If you are, or ever were, a young mobile person, the GAA are
unlikely to believe that you lived in Innishannon from, for example, 1976 to 2013 without interruption. I expect these forms
to be sent back immediately, so I will not be sending them. Please contact me to discuss.
3. Do not leave out years in your chronology. If where you were living in 1986 is left out of your form, it will be sent back.
4. Under ‘Club’ it is obviously Valley Rovers; ‘team’ is the team you are involved with (e.g. U10) and your role is either
coach or selector.
5. Sign and date the form
NB I have received a few forms where the applicant has stated that they have lived in Innishannon all their lives. While this
may be true for a small number who have lived only in Innishannon, if you had an address while away at College or if you
were away for any period of time, you must account chronologically for these periods. I believe that some of these forms will
just be sent directly back unless the applicants put some details as to where they lived and for what periods. Please see
pointers for the completion of the forms above.
My Email address is daithi.fallon@cit.ie if there are any queries. Alternatively, ring 0879885858 to discuss any issues .
Many Thanks and Best Regards,
Daithí Fallon (Valley Rovers Garda Vetting Officer)
