What an exciting time for us the whanau o
Rereamanu with the 150 Years Kingitanga
hui being held at our marae next year on
Saturday, 14 th February 2009. Rereamanu
Marae is hosting the hui but, the front
programme in front of the Whare Tupuna will
be a Maniapoto programme whereby it will
include all our iwi. There are lots to be done
but I have confidence that our whanau can
pull it together. The last time that we had
Dame Te Atairangikaahu come to our marae
was when Te Kawaumaro Tua Rua (the big
Whare Tupuna) was opened in Easter 1979
– 29 years ago. Planning has commenced to
start preparing not only the whanau but also
to ensure that our marae is looking beautiful
when King Tuheitia attends.
PLANNING FOR THE 150 YEARS
KINGITANGA:
I have confidence in our Rereamanu Marae
whanau who will ensure that our marae is
ready. The way that we are working it, is
that we have broken the marae up into
various areas and from there each whanau
can decide where they want to be involved
in:
Te Whare Tupuna Tuatahi
MONTHLY WANANGA:
The planning for all the wananga has now
been completed with an application to Te
Whare Wananga o Awanui-a-rangi in
Whakatane in the post. Planning by the
whanau has been critical in the sense that
we have decided to learn waiata specifically
for the February hui next year whereby we
also will learn along with these waiata the
meanings, where did the waiata come from,
history of the waiata and the whakapapa.
The Facilitators of these hui are Lucky and
Gaylene. Marae Co-Ordinators at this stage
is myself with Aria and Gaylene taking over
the role once they have attended a
presentation from Te Awanui-a-rangi.
The wananga dates are as follows:
29-31 August E Pa To Hau
26-28 September E Ua e Te Ua
18-19 October Kaore te Roimata
21-23 November Ko Rereamanu tenei
12-14 December E Tu Maniapoto
Haere Mai Ki Ahau
OVERVIEW ON THE WAIATA THAT WE
ARE GOING TO LEARN:
E Pa To Hau, he waiata o Maniapoto
E Ua e Te Ua, second verse to E Pa To Hau
but also from it ties in our links with Pukawa
at Tuwharetoa in regard to Potatau Te
Wherowhero agreeing to take on the kinship,
but first wanted to consult with his
Maniapoto tuakana at Haurua.
Kaore Te Roimata – he waiata from
Parihaka whereby it ties in Rereamanu with
the Te Kaumawaru to Parihaka. Ngā Kaiako
are the whanau from Parihaka who will also
be teaching us a poi waiata.
Ko Rereamanu Tēnei – waiata
whakangahau composed by Sam Green and
Lovey Collis to the tune “North to Alaska”
E Tu Maniapoto and Haere Mai Ki Ahau are
waiata whakangahau belonging to
Maniapoto.
To run alongside our wananga an
application for funding has been made to Te
Awanui-a-rangi whereby they will fund
whanau to attend these wananga. The
criteria are as follows:
Each hui will be 20 hours per
weekend and be held from Friday
evening 6.00pm right through to
Sunday at midday (excluding the
October hui. The Powhiri for the
Taranaki whanau will be on Saturday,
18 th October 2008 at 10.00am).
Following lunch on the Sunday, from
1.00pm to 3.30pm we will be having
our usual monthly trustee hui which is
included in wananga hours. NOTE:
That all these extra bits and pieces
included in our wananga have been
pre-approved by Te Wananga o
Awanui-a-rangi.
Minimum number required to qualify
for funding is 30 whanau and the
maximum is 50. At the end of the
day: the more that whanau can attend
these hui, the more that the marae
will benefit financially.
At each hui, whanau MUST sign a
daily register
Register with Te Awanui-a-rangi –
Proof of Identity Passport – Birth
Certificate. Whanau cannot be
enrolled with another tertiary
organization.
NEW TRUSTEES:
With the passing of our past Chairman
Graeme Oakes (March 2007) and our Vice
Chairman Don Tapara (April 2008), it has
been necessary to hold an annual general
meeting of our trustees for the re-elections
of new trustees and an executive committee.
The new Trustee executive will be as
follows:
(trustees elect). At the Maori Land Court in
Te Kuiti on Friday, 22nd th August 2008 at
12.30pm, the new 11 trustees application
will be processed. All current/new trustees
to attend the Maori Land Court hearing.
MARAE CHARTER
Along with the new trustee elections, the
whanau are currently reviewing our Marae
Charter. We appreciate all whanau input
into this document to ensure that our marae
continues to be run and operate well for
generations to come.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
Our strategic planning that we had started in
October 2007 is still a “work in progress”.
Some of the dreams that has come from the
whanau so far are awesome for the future
development of our marae.
The reason that we are having another day
is to ensure that we get good feedback from
across the whole section of the whanau.
However that still does not stops our
whanau that live away from Rereamanu an
input as well. Please feel free to give some
thought to it and email or perhaps post your
ideas back to me – Girl.
FUND RAISING:
With our big hui coming and the marae
requiring a bit of maintenance, we need to
consider doing some fundraising. If any of
the whanau out there has got some
wonderful ideas, please let us know!!! At
present we have got some lotto drops going,
a batons up is in the pipeline if I can find the
time to put one together and our monthly
wananga through Te Awanui-aa-rangi.
With the wananga it is worked on the
attendance of the whanau, the more that
whanau can attend the more putea that we
will receive after our last one in December
2008. As an example one local marae in
Otorohanga on a minimum of 30 people
attending 4-5 wananga (80%), their marae
received $18,000. Don’t get me wrong
whanau, I don’t want it so that the funding
becomes a priority, but I think that this is an
awesome way to not only get our whanau to
our wananga and learn more about
Rereamanu and whakawhanaungatanga,
but also receive some putea for our marae
as well.
EMAIL ADDRESSES – MONTLY PANUI:
As there are going to be monthly panui sent
out each month, is it possible for whanau to
email their email addresses to me so that I
can flick them straight out to everyone and
any other information pertaining to the 150
Kingitanga hui. This will be great as it will
not only save time but also the cost of
photocopying/posting mail that the marae
will not have to pay for. We have a big mahi
ahead of us whanau, but I know everyone
will be happy to come on board and work
towards this wonderful kaupapa.
WHANAU NEWS:
If whanau has got any news that they would
like to share in our monthly panui with
everyone, please feel free to email me the
article. My email address is:
lynngreen@slingshot.co.nz or
lynng@maniapoto.org.nz. I know that the
first panui has taken up a lot of space due to
the photos included, but I wanted to share
what I have with everyone, particularly the
ones of the old kauuta. How many of our
whanau still remember it???
MARAE BOOKINGS:
If any of the whanau wish to book Reremanu
for any hui, the new contact person is now:
Rangi Tapara, 20 Earl Street, Te Kuiti
(021)148 6981.
CLOSING:
and welcome any assistance for future
panui. I know we have got some GUN
WHANAU TYPISTS out there who are more
COMPUTER LITERATE THAN MYSELF.
Hope you enjoy the photos that I have
included. Please feel free to email or ring
me any time for any up to date information.
