To all our friends, members, and sponsors –
I am pleased to report that 2012, our fourth year of operations, was a very exciting year
for us, full of events and milestones. To quote Henry Ford, Founder of the Ford Motor
Company: “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working
together is success.”
What has happened with our Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is
truly a success. Leaders from business, government, education, and civic life have come
together to support the many activities the Hispanic Chamber has presented to our community, and that is cause
for celebration.
Nothing could highlight our success more than receiving the 2012 Small Chamber of the Year Award. This award
was presented to us at the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual Convention in Los Angeles,
California, attended by 4,500 businesspeople and 250 Hispanic Chambers of Commerce from around the United
States. It was an honor to be part of this event, and we sincerely appreciate the efforts of our membership, sponsors,
and friends of the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
2012 also had its political highlights, with the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce being the
first in the area to reach out to our political candidates with two Candidates Forums, one in Illinois and one in
Iowa. Both were standing-room-only events. The Candidates Forums emphasized the high interest level and
power of Hispanics in America. Special thanks go to our board members, Maria Mier-Llaca, Greg Aguilar, and
Rob Hill, who worked tirelessly in making these important events so successful.
Lastly, I am proud to recognize our extremely skilled and energetic staff, Lee Vasquez, Executive Director, and
Zenaida Landeros, Operations Manager, who make our plans, events, and board efforts all come together.
As we look to our Annual Gala and the coming year, we are delighted to have Nina Vaca, past Chairwoman of
the Board of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, as our Keynote Speaker. We are honored to
hear the insights she has gained from her experiences, traveling across America, working with Latino businesses,
Fortune 500 CEOs, and government agencies regarding the trillion-dollar purchasing power of Hispanics in
America.
I hope you will join us in celebrating the success of the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

2012 Small Hispanic Chamber of the Year
The Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Named as Winner of the 2012 Small Hispanic Chamber of the Year Award
In September 2012, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
(USHCC) celebrated three Hispanic chambers from across the country
for their dedication to assisting and raising awareness of Hispanic-owned
businesses. The recipients were honored in Los Angeles during the USH-
CC’s 33rd Annual National Convention, the nation’s largest gathering of
Hispanic business leaders and entrepreneurs.
The Small Hispanic Chamber of the Year Award was presented to the
Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GQCHCC).
“This is a great honor to all the people involved with the chamber – the
members, the board, the staff, and all the volunteers who have helped us,”
said Bob Ontiveros, Chairman of GQCHCC.
Founded in 2008, the GQCHCC is the only organization in the Quad Cities created to address specific needs
of the Hispanic business community. It serves the Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities and surrounding areas, including
Sterling, Rock Falls, Iowa City, Muscatine, and West Liberty.
The chamber has close to 200 members and offers a multicultural speaker series, mixers, workshops, and
webinars. The GQCHCC welcomes businesses, organizations, and individuals from all cultural backgrounds
to join.

Nina Vaca
Nina Vaca founded Pinnacle in 1996 as an information technology
services provider to Fortune 500 companies. Pinnacle provides ITenabled
solutions in the growing area of vendor management via a
IT Staff Augmentation Services, Professional Staffing and Payrolling
services.
Under Nina’s leadership, Pinnacle has become the fifth fastest growing
firm in a $20 billion dollar industry, and now has revenues of 200
million which includes 4,000 consultants across the United States and
Canada. Pinnacle is one of the most widely recognized and honored
companies nationwide, garnering over 38 national and local awards
over the past 7 years including consecutive top rankings in the Inc.
500, and Staffing Industry Report.
In 2005, Nina appeared in Fast Company Magazine as one of the Top 25 Women Business Builders in the
country. She has been featured in numerous magazines both domestically and internationally to include
Vanidades, Ali, Entrepreneur, Kiplinger, Forbes, Fast Company, HISPANIC, KERA CEO Review and Latino
Leaders. Her story opens the Entrepreneur chapter of “Understanding Business”, a McGraw Hill textbook
used for teaching entrepreneurship at universities today. Nina is a recipient of the coveted Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur of the Year award for Technology and Communication for the Southwest Region. In 2010,
Nina was named one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in America by Latino Leaders Magazine.
As an international leader, Nina has represented the U.S. in numerous transatlantic leadership forums,
including through the German Marshall Memorial Fellow program, as a member of the British-American
Project.
She is a graduate of Texas State University with a B.A. in Speech Communications and Business Administration
where she was honored as the youngest Distinguished Alumna in university history. She also holds
a Doctor of Laws “Honoris Causa” from Northwood University. She is a graduate of the Harvard Business
School – Corporate Governance Executive Program.
In 2011, Vaca joined the Startup America Partnership as a founding board member offering strategic guidance
on bringing the private sector together to provide startups with the resources they need to start and
scale their organizations. Ms. Vaca is a Director with Comerica, Inc., a Director with Kohl’s Corporation,
is Chairman Emeritus of the Board of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and has been
recognized in each of the past three years as one of the 101 Most Influential Latinos in America by Latino
Leaders magazine.

For the cover of this year’s Gala
program, the Greater Quad Cities
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
is pleased to present the artwork of
Abraham and Adam Perez Zacarias.
Born in Mexico, the brothers moved
with their family to Los Angeles,
California, in 1988 when they were
6 and 8 years old, respectively. The
brothers showed signs of remarkable
artistic talent at an early age. In
California, they painted murals for
the Los Angeles Education District,
banks, and private institutions.
In 1998, Abraham and Adam moved
to Iowa, where they now they reside in Iowa City. Here in the Midwest, they have created masterful murals and
paintings for various establishments and with people from different parts of the world.
Abraham and Adam were commissioned to create the artwork for our Gala program cover. The painting represents
the many contributions made to our community by the Hispanic Americans throughout the last century.
In their thought-provoking artwork, you will see how farming and the railroad industry attracted the first wave
of Mexican immigrants to the Quad-City area. You will also see how immigrants from Mexico and Central
America made food-processing plants thrive in the ‘80s, ‘90s, and up to the present day.
Their artwork tells of the ultimate sacrifice of the eight young, first-generation QC Mexican-Americans from
Hero Street, who gave their lives for this great country in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Hundreds of
their family members have also served bravely in the armed forces.
Thank you, Abraham and Adam Perez Zacarias, for helping us to honor the contributions of the Hispanic community
to the Quad-Cities. These contributions were made by proud, caring individuals, and the Greater Quad
Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is proud to acknowledge them and to keep their memories alive in our
hearts.
