such other places as the Magistrates from time to time<br />

may appoint.<br />

7mo, Coachmen are not on any account to plead prior<br />

engagements when their services are required, nor shall<br />

they be allowed to draw to one side <strong>of</strong> the stand under<br />

pretence <strong>of</strong> being engaged, so as to have the pick <strong>of</strong><br />

work, but their coaches being on, or near the stand, to<br />

be considered a pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> their being disengaged.<br />

8110, That upon failure <strong>of</strong> performing any engagement<br />

undertaken by any <strong>of</strong> the owners <strong>of</strong> hackriey-coaehes or<br />

their coachmen, they shall be liable in a penalty <strong>of</strong> ten<br />

shillings, and also forfeit any claim for hire, for having<br />

performed part <strong>of</strong> the engagement only.<br />

9«o, That uo fares higher than those in the prefixed<br />

table shall be demanded or taken ; and if any coachman<br />

shall be convicted <strong>of</strong> imposing on his employers, or abstracting<br />

the fares from his master, he shall be punished<br />

with seventy ; and every coachman shall have in his<br />

pocket a printed copy <strong>of</strong> these regulations and annexed<br />

tables on a piece <strong>of</strong> parchment to be kept in a tin-box,<br />

with the number <strong>of</strong> the coach painted on it, to be in pussession<br />

<strong>of</strong> the coachman at all times when on duty, and<br />

which must be shewn to every employer when demand-<br />

ed, under a penalty not exceeding five shillings.<br />

lOmo, That any coachman on misbehaviour, by abu-<br />

sive language or otherwise, upon being convicted there<strong>of</strong>,<br />

the Magistrates may revoke his licence, or inflict a penalty<br />

; and on non-payment he shall be committed to prison<br />

till the same is paid.<br />

IIoto, That the coachman, after setting down a company,<br />

shall drive to the nearest stand, and if the number<br />

<strong>of</strong> coaches ordered to stand there is not complete, he shall<br />

remain for the service <strong>of</strong> the public.<br />

12/wo, That at least one-fourth part <strong>of</strong> the coaches by<br />

rotation shall ply on Sundays, from ten o'clock forenoon<br />

! until ten at night, at the ordinary fares.<br />

l3tio, That the fare to Leith, during the race week,<br />

for one hour before and one hour after the horses start-<br />

1812.
