Move-In Parking Instructions
New Student Move-In is one of the most exciting days of your college experience - it
is the day you’ll begin to make UWRF your new home away from home! However,
Move-In Day can also create a lot of anxiety for new students as you prepare to pack
your belongings and leave home for the first time.
As you prepare for New Student Move-In on Saturday, September 1, we ask that you
try to arrive during your designated time. This will help us better accommodate your
arrival.
Cascade Avenue (the street adjacent to campus) is under construction. Please plan
ahead and be prepared for a few delays as you arrive in River Falls.
• If your residence hall is George R. Field South Fork Suites, Crabtree, Parker,
Grimm, McMillan or Hathorn:
• Please enter campus from the east via Highway 65 and Cascade
Avenue.
• When you exit campus, you will be directed across Cascade Avenue
to Sixth Street. No right or left turns allowed on Cascade Avenue
due to construction.
– To return to Highway 35/65: Turn right on Oak Knoll, right on
Crescent Street, and left on Cascade Avenue.
– To visit downtown River Falls: Stay on Sixth Street, cross Spring
Street (one-way travelling East), left on Walnut Street to S. Main
Street.
• If your residence hall is Stratton, Prucha or May:
• Please enter campus from the west via Highway 35/29 and Main Street.
• When you arrive to campus…
• We run a tight ship and hope to make this process smooth and easy for
you; however, we do ask for your patience. We will do our best to help
you make the move-in experience as enjoyable as possible.
• Please follow the directions provided by the Police Officers directing
traffic at all entrances and exits.
• Please follow the colored flags and directions provided by the staff
along the route on campus. There will be individuals guiding you to
your building, through Short Term Parking, to a Long Term Parking lot,
and to an exit.
• Short Term “Parking”
• Each residence hall will have a designated area in which you will be able
to “drop and roll.” The driver of the vehicle should remain in the vehicle
while all others quickly and safely exit the vehicle and remove all of the
belongings to a designated area. Move-In Crew volunteers will be on
staff to aid in this process.
• Once a vehicle has been unloaded the driver should move the vehicle to
a designated Long Term Parking lot. The driver may return to the
student’s residence at this time and help with the move-in process.
• While a driver is moving a vehicle to Long Term Parking, students will
need to formally check in to their hall with the Residence Life Staff
stationed in the Residence Hall lobby. All others in the car should begin
moving the student’s belongings into his or her new home. Move-In
Crew volunteers will be on staff to aid in this process.
• Long Term Parking
• Vehicles may remain in this lot until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6
when permits will be needed.
• Once a student is settled…
• There will be a Move-In Day Check-List on each student’s door that
provides instructions for students and family members for the remainder
of the day. If you have any questions, please ask anyone, we’re here to
help.
• Packing Recommendation – Use as many plastic bins and boxes as possible.
And then save them. You’ll use them again when you move out of the
residence halls in May.
• The first meal offered in Riverside Commons (lower level, University Center) for
students on a meal plan is lunch on Move-In Day from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Students on a meal plan will receive a lunch ticket in their housing materials
when they check-in to their residence hall. Students will need to turn in this
ticket in order to dine in Riverside. In the future, students will only need their
student ID card to dine at this location. Friends and family are welcome to dine
with their student at this location (ages 5-9: $3.40; adults: $6.79).
• Let’s celebrate! All new students, friends, and family are invited to attend The
Great Falcon Get-Together from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Ramer Field. We’ll
celebrate and welcome you to the UWRF community with live music from
American Idol Top 10 contestant Reed Grimm and Shoeless Revolution, food,
and TONS of entertainment. We’ll cheer on the Falcon Football team to victory
as they take on Simpson College at 4:00 p.m. Friends and families of new
students should say their goodbyes before 7:00 p.m. when all students living
on-campus are required to attend their Residence Hall Community Wing
Meetings. Game and meal tickets will be provided for all new students and their
families in their residence hall as they move-in. There is no cost to attend or
dine with us!
