MASSEY-HARRIS TRACTORS
Outstanding for economy, power, ease of handling

2
Here's what a Massey-Harris Tractor means to you!
Massey-Harris tractors are different — not so much
in looks or in features as such, but in the qualities
that mean more successful, more profitable farming
. . . economy of operation, power to get the job done,
ease of handling that minimizes fatigue and adds to
your comfort.
These are tractors that move a lot of hard work off
your farm . . . tractors that like to work and know
the low-cost way to do it. They're tractors that stay
on the pull when the load gets heavy and take the
stubbornness out of tough soil.
You learn this the first time you drive a Massey-
Harris, the first time you experience that surging
power so eager to get going — so willing, smooth,
steady . . . the reserve that seems to enjoy a chance
to show itself.
You learn more about a Massey-Harris on the lonl
hour jobs. You work relaxed. Steering is easier
There's less strain on arms and shoulders. You finis]
up fresher, less tired. And you do precision work ..
guide closer to the rows . . . turn, dodge, move ii
and out of tight places quickly, smoothly.
And fuel goes further. The Cyclo-Head engine
of every Massey-Harris squeezes more power out o
every drop of fuel . . . makes it do more to help cu
your costs, keep profits up.
But fuel savings are only a part of the economy
a Massey-Harris gives you. It's built with an extra
margin of durability — tested over long, gruellin
hours to assure dependability. It lasts longer, costs
less to maintain.

usiness of farming
The efficiency of a Massey-Harris is also in the
tools that team up with the tractor, tools that are
lower in cost because of their design simplicity . . .
that attach in a matter of seconds to the new exclusive
3-point wrist-action Hitch-All.
Massey-Harris builds tractors for every size farm
and purpose — gasoline, diesel, distillate and liquefied
petroleum models — in the wheel arrangement that
suits your individual needs.
Check each feature described on the following
pages — the economy, power, easy handling benefits
— the equipment available and, like thousands
of other farmers, you'll discover why Massey-Harris
tractors are fast becoming first choice when owners
really want to get things done.
Economy in a Massey-Harris is a combination of
the swirling charge in its high-turbulence cylinders,
the uniform suspension of long throat manifolding,
the precision carburetion so accurate in its fuel delivery
— the quick, snappy performance of its built-in
governor. It extends also to the overall design of the
tractor — the proper distribution of weight that gives
firm, solid traction and full use of power . . . the
dependability, stamina, durability, low-cost maintenance
— longer life of controlled manufacture, workmanship
— tested materials.
The easier handling of a Massey-Harris helps you
finish the day fresher — helps you do better work
on a wider variety of jobs. It's in the way you hold
close to the row — work in and out of fence corners,
along irrigation dikes or checks, around the contour
with steering convenience that doesn't feel every clod
or stone. It's the jar-and-jolt-free comfort of its
Velvet Ride Seat and full-width platform . . . the
complete side to side visibility of modern styling
. . . the positioning of controls that make driving as
natural as handling your car.
A solid engine frame
Cradled in a frame of its own, the engines in
Massey-Harris tractors are relieved of any structural
load — there is no chance for stresses and strains
to be transferred to the engine block, crankcase or
clutch housing. It eliminates distortion . . . loading
on bearings and shafts.
This frame is a one-piece unit — ribbed for extra
strength, durability. It also provides a solid attaching
point for many of the tractor's front mounted tools
— eliminating another possibility of engine stress.

Power Design
in the engine means more power,
lower fuel costs on every job
Balanced Power Design in Massey-Harris tractors is the coordination — teamwork — between the units
that develop the power and those that use it. It's the blending of resources to assure more power at the
drawbar, belt and P.T.O. — big power to handle big jobs.
Specifically, Balanced Power Design is the spinning, twisting turbulence of Cyclo-Head combustion — the exclusive
Massey-Harris firing design that swirls the fuel charge in a rotary motion for the entire length of the piston stroke.
There is longer throw to the crankshaft — longer stroke to the pistons for greater power
leverage . .. torque reserve . . . to take you through when a tough load tries to pull the engine down.
Part of it, too, is the free-flowing, long throat manifold that continues the mixing of fuel and air begun
in the carburetor. Fuel is held in suspension for slower burning, more complete combustion. Short
intake porting gets the fuel to the cylinders fast — there are no over-rich charges, no lean ones
each cylinder delivers uniform power.
And Massey-Harris carburetors are precision designed and adjusted to individual engines. They assure
correct mixtures to meet all speed and load demands, give fast starts. An economizer jet automatically
reduces richness on part loads to save fuel.
The transmission is likewise a part of Balanced Power Design. Gears are cut to tolerances of less
than a thousandth part of an inch to give a full rolling contact, full power delivery. High alloy steels
assure longer life, greater dependablity.
The spinning, swirling
turbulence of Cyclo-
Head Combustion is
the result of a special
wedge at the intake
port. Fuel is rotated
in a cyclonic turbulence
the length of the
piston stroke.
Balanced Power Design is all of these — working together — coordinated in size, shape, speed to
deliver more economy, more power on every farm job.
Longer crankshaft Massey-Harris carbuarms
When you climb up on the seat of
a Massey-Harris your hands and feet
"find" the controls automatically.
Everything is conveniently placed ...
brake and clutch pedals, throttle,
shifting lever, gauges—all are natural
to use and see . . . so comfortable to
operate that good work comes easy
all day long.
Massey-Harris tractors have a wide
roomy platform that is more than
the usual foot rest. It gives you ample
space for that occasional stretch,
ample leg room whether you're sitting
or standing. In combination with
the fenders, it affords more operator
protection when you are working in
wet or soggy fields.
Handling ease . .1
You're comfortably seated on a Velvet
Ride Seat, hydraulically cushioned
against jars and jolts. You get a
floating ride . . . easier on your
back. And you see what you're
doing, where you're going because
Massey-Harris styling gives you complete
visibility side to side, up front,
to the rear.

. www...+Ent .....
that makes your day easier . . . your work lighter
Uniform weight distribution in Massey-Harris
tractors means better traction,
easier handling, steering — because
the front wheels hold to the
ground. There is more stability —
less wheel slippage, less power loss
when pulling heavy equipment
through loose or slick soils.
Adjustable rear tread adapts the Massey-Harris
tractor to a wide variety of plowing, planting
and cultivating methods. What's more, there
are no fixed intervals on the axle to limit
spacings. You slide the wheels out or in to
the position you want and lock them there —
quick, positive. For special needs — models
with 112-inch axles are available.
Shock resistant steering and selfenergizing
brakes help you turn short
— in the length of the tractor itself
with row-crop models. It means you
turn easier on headlands, move in
and out of close quarters more
smoothly . . . turn, dodge, keep to
the row or marker with less effort.
Two-way hydraulic system has big capacity
to handle the 33's tools easily,
accurately. Control quadrant is easy to
reach and adjust. Constant running pump
supplies a ready source of hydraulic
power, independent of clutch action.
Big 11 or 12-38 rear tires assure good
flotation, save power. Front tires are
5.50-16.
Gear driven differential is set ahead of
the final drive, saves power, means more
lugging ability. Mounted in heavily
ribbed case with oil-bath lubrication.
Adjustable rear tread means fast, easy
wheel settings on the 33. By sliding the
axle hubs on the axle, you can adjust the
rear tread from 52 to 88-inches in a
matter of minutes.
3-point wrist-action Hitch-All makes
implement hook-ups a matter of seconds
— eliminates the usual "jockeying" to
align lift links and implement pins.
Hitch-All includes major implement adjustments
as integral part of hitch design
— simplifies equipment construction,
makes tools lower in cost.
Heavy duty transmission on the 33 has
short, husky shafts. Gears have positive,
full-rolling contact . . . accurate to
1/1000 of an inch. Tapered heavy-duty
bearings. Oil-bath lubrication.
Swinging drawbar rolls on a pressure
lubricated roller. It can swing free in a
201/4-inch lateral limit or can be pinned
rigid anywhere within 18-inch limit.
Solid, one-piece frame forms solid
support for engine . . . eliminates "engine
loading", takes strain off operating
parts, keeps "power train" in accurate
alignment. Heavy one-piece castings.
Velvet ride seat on the 33 "floats" you
over the roughest fields . . . flips back
for extra standing room. Platform is
wide, roomy — controls are handy, easy
to operate.
Heavy duty clutch has large surface,
delivers engine power smoothly, more
efficiently. 9 pressure springs maintain
equal contact over the disc face. Adjusts
externally — sealed release bearing.
Precision balanced crankshaft is onepiece
forging of sturdy steel alloy. It's
balanced while in motion and at rest to
assure smooth, vibration-free running at
all speeds. Runs on steel-backed, babbit
lined bearings. Crankshaft is drilled to
provide oil passage to bearings.
Reinforced fuel tank is stronger —
built-in splash baffles reduces fuel sloshing.
Tank cap is vented to prevent loss
of vaporized fuel.
Full-pressure lubrication results in positive
protection and long life for shafts,
bearings and pistons. Pump circulates
proper quantity of oil to meet engine
requirements.

FROM 11000 TO HITCH...MORE WORK CAPACITY
Long throat manifold is free-flowing
. . . means faster, uniform vaporization
— quick fuel delivery — equal
charge to each cylinder.
Tapered roller bearings mean smooth
rolling wheels. Axle assembly is grease
packed at the factory — sealed against
dust and dirt. Axle spindle is rugged
steel forging.
A look inside the Massey-Harris shows you its simplicity
of design, its many features that give you more of everything you
want and need in a farm tractor.
Check it over from hood to hitch. Notice the size and weight of the
materials — the liberal use of heavy-duty bearings — the short
shafts — the more efficient cooling system that means better combustion.
Examine it for lubrication . . . the life blood of any tractor
for fuel handling and delivery, for safeguards and operator comfort.
Once you do, you'll find, like many farmers before you, that a
Massey-Harris measures up to your standards in more of the features
you need. It's the kind of tractor you want for your farm.
Big 201-cubic-inch valve-in-head engine
features Cyclo-Head Combustion
that gives fuel a cyclonic turbulence for
the length of the piston stroke. Means
greater power on less fuel. Exhaust
valves rotate — assure longer valve life,
more efficient operation.
Longer piston stroke gives greater
power leverage . . more "torque reserve",
more lugging power at low engine
R.P.M.
High arch front wheel design has
stability for open field work, adjusts
from 52 to 88-inches for cultivating row
crops. 24-7/16-inch clearance. 33 is also
is grease packed, runs smoothly on
double bearings. It keeps system's coolest
water swirling around sleeves and valves.
Thermostat has large capacity by-pass.
Worm and sector steering makes the
33 as easy to steer as your automobile.
There's no whip, no snap-back on the
bumps and ruts. Wheels reposition quickly
after turning.
NEW... 3-point wrist-actioll Ilitch-All
H ere are implement hook-ups that take but a few seconds . .. fast.
easy hook-ups. power assisted, with none of the conventional tractor
and implement "jockeying" to align lift links and mounting pins.
The reason is Massey-Harris' exclusive wrist-action lower links — and
full-floating principle. The wrist-action takes care of any height
variations between the tractor and implement. You simply back up to a
tool, snap the wrist open, and slip the ball connector on the attaching pin.
Quick. Easy. Safe. Regardless of the angle or slope of the ground.
Most major implement adjustments are incorporated into the hitch.
This simplifies implement design — eliminates numerous mounting
brackets, braces and bolts. Massey-Harris tools are easier to control,
easier to store — and they cost you less to own. The Hitch-All is a universal
hook-up — it takes a wide variety of tools built for 3-point attachment.
Wrist-action works like this: — With the
lower links positioned near the implement
pins, you push up on the ball
socket and the link snaps open (as
illustrated) giving you complete freedom
of alignment forward, up, down,
and back — without moving the tractor
or implement. Slip the ball socket on
the pin, raise the hydraulic and the
wrist-action links snap closed. It's positive,
safe, quick and easy. Attach the
upper link and you're ready to go. The
regular drawbar is always free for pull
behind work.

All of the major adjustments of Massey-
Harris implements are built-into the exclusive
wrist-action Hitch-All. And you
set them right from your place on the
tractor seat . . . level plows with the
ball-bearing crank that raises and lowers
the right lift link . . . set depth and
penetration with the hand adjustment
on the upper link . . . pull the lock pin
in the power arm to give full-floating
action to the mounted tool. It all adds
up to a faster job of changing from tool
to tool — an easier job of handling more
work in the same day.
Depth-o-matic 2-way hydraulic system powers implements into and
out of the ground — holds them to selected depths regardless of
land variations and soil conditions.
In combination with the new wrist-action Hitch-All it gives you
a system of implement control that is positive, quick-responding to
meet changing conditions with fingertip effort.
It's a big capacity system . . . designed to handle big equipment
— 5 bottom plows, 4-row linters, planters, cultivators, heavy-duty
front end loaders . . . big capacity pull-behind rams.
Depth-o-matic System gives complete follow up action. Whenever
you move the control handle, the hydraulic cylinder follows through
and raises or lowers the implement to the original position you selected
on the quadrant.
With its constant running pump, Depth-o-matic makes hydraulic
power available instantly . . . independent of clutch action.
The fluid is thoroughly filtered to assure long life.
Massey-Harris hydraulic control... faster operation... less effort
Mounted implements are controlled easier, held
to the job more accurately with Depth-o-matic
2-way follow-up system. Tools are raised and
lowered under power — penetrate quickly. System
is simple to operate and adjust.
Cultivators, bedders and planting attachments are
operated in selective control by auxiliary valves
and through individual rams on each tool-bar.
Valves operate independently of the follow-up control
— and rear gangs are controlled through the
regular mounted cylinder.
Pull-behind tools are controlled by a synchronized
slave cylinder coupled to the mounted cylinder on
the tractor platform . . . with complete follow-up
action. Standard A.S.A.E. rams with 8 and 16inch
stroke .
An additional valve equips Depth-o-matic for control
of front end loaders. Because of its constant
running pump, hydraulic pressure responds faster,
helps you move material faster. A safety valve
automatically by-passes the fluid under excessive
loads.

33 Diesel — 201 cubic inch engine,
5 forward speeds. Row
Crop, High Arch, Single Front
Wheel and Standard treads.
Massey-Harris Diesels give smooth, quiet diesel performance
— the same power-plus lugging ability, the
same easy handling of the gasoline models, with the
added fuel economy of low-cost heavier fuels.
These are full diesels . . . no auxiliary starting
mechanisms, no dual fuel systems. They start ana
operate on diesel fuel.
And its controlled diesel performance. The initial
combustion takes place in the Dyna-Cell where it
cushions the harshness of primary firing. Peak pressures
are confined, held back until the piston begins
its downward travel. These expanding gases are then
released in a cyclonic turbulence — igniting the main
fuel-air mixture in the cylinder to give progressive
burning — constant, uniform pressure — throughout
the piston stroke.
The power impulse is smooth, steady . . . more
intense. It isn't lost in one jarring explosion that
strains gears, bearings and shafts.
As a result you get greater economy . . . better
use of the fuel that is burned — longer life, more
dependability because of this smoother performance.
70-inch tread and 18-26 tires
for more stability and traction
on hillsides. Foot or hand
clutch — gasoline, diesel, LP,
and distillate models.
Built from the ground up to burn LP fuel,
these Massey-Harris tractors give you a
greater measure of the benefits in LP fuel
operation.
They have a higher compression ratio,
special integrally designed fuel systems —
specifically suited to the tractor. As a result,
you get rock-bottom economy in fuel
and service costs . . . more power, longer
engine and oil life.
There is smoother burning of the fuel —
more complete combustion, less chance for
power loss due to pre-ignition and hot spots
— carbon formation. You have cleaner
lubrication as well — no crankcase dilution,
less engine wear.
And because of Balanced Power Design
carburetion accurately matches speed and
load demands, fuel is completely and thoroughly
mixed in the long throat manifold
. . . it spins with a rotary turbulence in the
Cyclo-Head combustion chamber . . . delivers
more power with long stroke pistons
— greater power leverage to really get
tough work done.
