Sub:M.G.Wagon census to be held on 31.05.2008(Mid –day)
Board have decided to hold the next M.G.Wagon census at 12.00 Hrs. on
31.05.2008. As in the past, the intermediate results of census will be compiled by the
Railway Board Computer Centre (RBCC). The data entry of census data will be done by
the respective Zonal Railway’s Data Processing Centres and further processing to get the
census results will be done in the Board’s Computer Centre.
The operating departments of the Railways should hand over all the tally
sheets alonwith the enumeration summaries to their respective Data Processing Managers
within 10 days of the date of census,i.e,10.06.2008. EDP Centre of Zonal Railways enter
the census data as per the format given by RBCC from tally sheet. After correcting the
data entry errors, the error free data should be send to RBCC in floppy/CD’s.
Zonal Railways also need to bring the original Tally Sheets along with the
data. Data entry of enumerated data should be completed by 25.06.2008. The data
alongwith the original tally sheets, all the error lists and control print-outs should be sent
to RBCC by 30.06.2008 at the latest. One or two experienced TNC’s or other supervisory
staff associated with census work should be deputed to Railway Board with the
floppies/CD and documents.
The detailed instructions for entry of data ,editing of data and creation of
census CD’S/floppies, sort sequences and other necessary instructions would be advised
separately in detail by IRCA.
In addition to the above instructions, action on the following points may
please be ensured :-
(i) One of the problems posed in correctness of census enumeration is the nonavailability
of correct information regarding condemned wagons. Concerned
Railway should update the list of the condemned wagons after the last census
was held with necessary details well before the census. It should also be
ensured that wagons which have been condemned but still being used as
departmental may not be reported in figures of census .However, a separate
list of such wagons may be forwarded to IRCA office.

(ii) As per extent instructions, all overaged wagons not enumerated in two or
more than two successive censuses should be written off from the
M.G.Wagon Master with necessary advice to IRCA office.
(iii) It is also emphasized that the Carrying Capacity, Tare Weight and POH due
date of all enumerated wagons must be captured and properly filled in the
Tally sheets in columns Nos.33 to 36, 37 to 39 and 44 to 47 respectively as
per existing instructions.
