Facts and information - working with the fittings ….<br />

When planning a wire construction the ultimate break load, as well as the work<br />

load, must be calculated, as it will determine the minimum wire size and maybe<br />

the wire construction needed.<br />

WDS fittings , unless otherwise stated, are constructed after termination to meet<br />

90 % of the break load on the wire ropes that are standard in the market.<br />

PLEASE NOTE: in order to guarantee safety in a wire construction you should calculate a safety factor<br />

of 2-3 on static constructions. As a general rule working loads should never exceed 25% of the break<br />

loads stated in this catalogue.<br />

For full break load WDS recomends pressing or swaging/rolling the terminals<br />

onto the wire ropes.<br />

Recommended machines for this purpose are e.g. Presses from TALURIT , or swaging machines from<br />

WIRETECKNIK or combined press and roller swage machines from TOPREEF 2000. Our terminals<br />

are however also suitable for rotary hammer pressing!<br />

Swageless terminals<br />

If the exact length of the final wire is unknown a good solution is only to swage one end and<br />

screw a swageless terminal onto the wire for final attachment.on site at the other end.<br />

Small terminals ( architectural )<br />

Alternatively the WDS range of small fittings can be crimped onto the wires using a hand tool,<br />

however due to reduced amount of of material material in the small small fittings, only 50% break load load of the wire can be<br />

obtained by this method.

Correct attachment<br />

Always use correct size standard dies recommended by the supplier. As correct wire attachment/<br />

termination can only be achieved achieved by firmly squeezing the material of the terminal into the strands<br />

of the wire. Most of the WDS terminals are marked with wire size and a mark indicating the<br />

depth of where to start for correct swaging.<br />

Where markings are not possible e.g. on the small terminals , the wire hole depth must be measured<br />

before swaging, not only to find the point to start swaging, but also to get the right length of the final<br />

wire including the fittings. CAUTION, by swaging the terminals onto the wire, the shaft will get a little<br />

longer. As a rule of thumb the length will will be prolonged by approximately the same amount of of mm<br />

as the diameter of wire in mm!

Tensioning of wire with terminals<br />

As well as serving as an attachment to the given construction, threaded<br />

terminals, once on to the wire, can serve as a tensioner. Where tension<br />

cannot be aplied to the thread via a nut at the end, the wire can be tensioned<br />

by use of e.g. right handed and left handed thread terminals at each end of the<br />

wire , by turning the whole wire it will be tensioned.<br />

Surface finishing of terminals<br />

WDS terminals are high polished , hair line finishing can be delivered upon request.<br />
