Eugene L. Lehr, 7301 Pyle Rd., Bethesda,<br />

Md., was honored last October at the National<br />

Safety Council's Annual Congress,<br />

where he was the recipient of the Council's<br />

"Citation for Distinguished Service to<br />

Safety." The nomination came from the<br />

Home Conference of the NSC in which<br />

Gene has been active for the past 10 years.<br />

Norman R. Steinmetz in sending in his<br />

dues penned, "Surely missed being with you<br />

all at our 40th. Our class gift to <strong>Cornell</strong> was<br />

wonderful!" Former class president Norm<br />

and wife Alice live at 31 Strickland PI. right<br />

across the street from G. Schuyler Tarbell,<br />

former class secretary and currently vice<br />

president.<br />

Jean H. Miller, 25 Dogwood Dr., Summit,<br />

N.J., advises that he retired from the Public<br />

Service Electric & Gas Co. in Newark, N.J.<br />

this past Jan. 1<br />

David P. Kuntz sent in the following message,<br />

"Retired last July from the Atomic<br />

Energy Commission where I was a project<br />

engineer in the division of reactot, .development<br />

and technology. First assigtίment on<br />

retiring was touring the US with my wife<br />

Irene. (All of our three children are married<br />

and raising their own families. We now have<br />

eight grandchildren four years old and under.)<br />

Our trip was a most enjoyable and<br />

leisurely two months safari which included<br />

21 states and two Canadian Provinces -<br />

(N.W. Rockies). Have no firm plans for the<br />

future except to maintain this apartment as<br />

our permanent base. We both would like to<br />

have our <strong>Cornell</strong> friends visit with us when<br />

in the vicinity of Washington, D.C." The<br />

Kuntzes live at Grosvenor Pk. Apts., #1411,<br />

10401 Grosvenor PL, Rockville, Md.<br />

Also received was this short verse: "The<br />

newslessness of this vicinity, safeguards for<br />

me my anonymity!" signed Monty Mason,<br />

the Old Apple-knocker from Orleans County.<br />

Monty's address is RD 1, Albion.<br />

Michael P. Silverman advises that his<br />

younger son Jonathan graduated last June<br />

from the I&LR School and is now in Nagpur,<br />

India, with the Peace Corps. His other<br />

two boys practice law in Newark, N.J. Mike<br />

lives at 1407-14th St., Lakewood N.J.<br />

Albert Kurdt has been named executive<br />

assistant to New York State Commissioner<br />

of Agriculture Don J. Wickham '24. After<br />

graduation Al served two years as Seneca<br />

County agricultural agent and 20 years in a<br />

similar capacity in Ulster County. In 1948 he<br />

became manager of the Kingston Area<br />

Chamber of Commerce. He has been engaged<br />

in many civic activities, Boy Scout<br />

and church work, and other projects in Kingston.<br />

writes that she and her husband, who is now<br />

retired, are busier than ever before. Her husband<br />

has been commodore of the R&B Dragon<br />

Canoe Club, a sailing club on the Delaware<br />

River. Rachel has been chairman of<br />

the trustee section of the Pennsylvania<br />

Library Assn. She helps him with the yacht<br />

club, and he has accompanied her on trips<br />

to workshops for library trustees all over<br />

Pennsylvania. At the annual conference of<br />

the association last fall, she was presented<br />

with a silver Revere bowl, the "Distinguished<br />

Service Award" of the Pennsylvania Library<br />

We enjoyed a fine letter from Sylvester<br />

McKelvy, 1332 Sunset Ave., Point Pleasant,<br />

N.J. Mac continues to appreciate his loyal<br />

visitors. His former roommate, Dr. Harold<br />

Beatty, is now in Spokane, Wash., practicing<br />

his specialty, replacing ear drums. Mac also<br />

mentions Jack Brady, Art Bruckert, Wes<br />

Pietz and his lovely wife Rose, two sons, and<br />

several grandchildren, and regular visitors<br />

Reg Lueder, Ray Fingado, Luke Lucius, Stan<br />

Allen, and Bryce McCrohan. Thanks, Mac,<br />

Col. Dave Willets and his family have<br />

turned to good old USA after two years of<br />

service abroad. Dave takes up again with<br />

Water Resources of California. They live at<br />

Roland Pierotti continues traveling worldwide<br />

for the Bank of America as head of its<br />

international banking division. Home office,<br />

300 Montgomery St., San Francisco. Nor-<br />

Bert Frat, 1102 Harvard A.ve., E., Seattle,<br />

Wash., says son John '69 will chauffeur for<br />

us at the 40th - great!<br />

First across the line, generously supporting<br />

the '27 Fund for the 40th is Harold Kunsch,<br />

1801 Rushley Rd., Bait., Md. Fred Behlers,<br />

chm., is hoping for a new record. Let's all<br />

help him achieve it.<br />

A nice note from Louis Fuertes, 6443<br />

Northwood, Dallas, Tex., states he has a son<br />

headed for <strong>Cornell</strong> in '67. His daughter graduated<br />

from U of Texas last June. Shub spent<br />

a few days in Ithaca last summer and hopes<br />

to return again this June to continue the<br />

brief conversations he had with Walt Nield,<br />

Bill Davies, and Paul Rhines.<br />

City, Mo., is looking forward to the 40th and<br />

suggests "everyone write or call their buddies<br />

so we'll get a big turnout." Jess Van Law,<br />

treasurer, reports a record of 150 1967 dues<br />

Of the first 60 returns of the Reunion<br />

questionnaire, nearly one half said "yes" to<br />

the question of returning and 20 said maybe.<br />

We should break records. Barbara Muller<br />

Curtis and husband Ed '23 announce the<br />

arrival of their 11th grandchild, a daughter<br />

born to son Ed and wife. Barb said Marion<br />

Whipple McClellan '30 stopped to see them<br />

on her way home to Oklahoma after last<br />

Reunion and reported a wonderful three<br />

days in Ithaca.<br />

Muriel Drummond Platt and husband are<br />

still writing textbooks. The second edition of<br />

Our Nation from Its Creation has just been<br />

published. I have one; it is excellent. One of<br />

their books has been translated into Spanish<br />

and is used in South America.<br />

Adelaide Kistler Knubel is librarian for<br />

the elementary schools of Summit, N.J.; has<br />

spent the past summers traveling abroad,<br />

taking in on one of her trips the annual conference<br />

of the International Federation of<br />

Library Assns. held in Helsinki, Finland.<br />

Speaking of librarians, Julia Sabine is art<br />

and music librarian in Newark, N.J.; Mary<br />

Dorr is ass't librarian at Beloit College<br />

Wis.; Eleanor Gibson is librarian at Carrier<br />

Corp.; Eleanor Crabtree Harris is director,<br />

Ramapo-Catskill library system; Fannie Dubofsky<br />

Johannes is a high school librarian in<br />

New York; Alice E. Forward is head, order<br />

dept. of the Wayne Co. (Mich.) Library;<br />

and Eleanor Seeholzer Roe is director of the<br />

Thrall Library of Middletown. None speak<br />

of retirement!<br />

Mary Learning is one of three persons in<br />

the US to hold an Epsilon Sigma Phi (honorary<br />

Extension fraternity) citation for outstanding<br />

service. She retired recently from<br />

the Camden City (N.J.) Extension Service<br />

and a testimonial dinner was given in her<br />

honor at which Dr. Mason Gross, president<br />

of Rutgers U was the speaker.<br />

Erva Wright Smith says she is tapering<br />

off in the many social and political activities<br />

that have kept her active for the past 40<br />

years. She is secretary of the NYS Cemetery<br />
