The <strong>Swan</strong> <strong>44</strong> is the quintessential <strong>Swan</strong> with the ability to both cruise and race she has a<br />

great cockpit layout for short-handed family cruising and a deck layout equally at home<br />

accommodating crew for an offshore race. This example is essentially a cruising<br />

specification but does have a racing sail inventory.<br />

Gunsmoke has just returned from the Med and is now out of the water in Ipswich. The<br />

owner is planning on a winter refit schedule which includes replacement of the standing<br />

rigging as well as a general clean and tidy after the season. The house batteries have<br />

been replaced in 2012..<br />

HULL<br />

Construction<br />

The hull is built of glass fibre reinforced polyester by the hand laying-up method, using a<br />

lay-up with high glass content Single skin construction is used, with a synthetic surface<br />

layer applied after the gelcoat for increased resistance against water penetration<br />

Structural bulkheads are of marine grade water-proof plywood (except saloon aft<br />

bulkhead which is of GRP sandwich) laminated to the hull and deck with foam strips<br />

between<br />

Flotation reference marks at bow and stern<br />

Bottom treated with epoxy primer for improved blistering resistance, and antifouled with<br />

International Micron Extra, Red – will require repainting for the new season.<br />
