President’s Address
Alpha Xi Delta
Greetings from Hanover! I hope everyone is having a
wonderful holiday season. It really seems like fall term
flew by this year.
Once again we had a great Rush this fall, welcoming in
a fabulous new class of Alpha Xi’s. The parties were a
huge success thanks to all the hard work of Jenny
Croteau, ‘08 MVP; Lauren DeNatale, ‘09 Rush Chair;
and Katy Whisenhunt, Courtney Otto, and Johanna
Hauer, ‘09 Event Chairs! The enthusiasm of the ‘10s
has been contagious and we are all looking ahead to a
great rest of the year.
Social Chairs Natasha Pakravan ‘08 and Kate Robb ‘08
mixed up our usual meeting themes with creative new
activities. At “Project CVS” themed meetings, teams
of sisters did their best to design couture outfits for a
model using only supplies found at CVS! Senior Dana
Silberstein planned some great fall-themed
programming events (not to mention a few of the
always-popular Ramunto’s dinners)! Furthermore,
Beth Gould ‘08 and Laura Young ‘08 worked tirelessly
to make sure our new members had a pledge term to
be remembered. They seemed to have a blast getting
to know one another and learning about AZD
tradition.
Sisters Julia Schwartz ’08, Jenny Croteau ’08, Laura
Young ’08, Janie Scull ’09, Lauren DeNatale ’09, and I
took a mid-term road trip to Worcester, Massachusetts
to participate in and assist with the installation of a
new AZD chapter at WPI University. It was a
wonderful opportunity to experience sisterhood
beyond Dartmouth. After meeting the WPI sisters, we
definitely have a greater appreciation for the hard
work that went into starting up our own chapter. On
that note, I’m happy to inform everyone of our
upcoming 10 Year Anniversary Celebration organized
by Julia Schwartz for this winter term! I’m sure there
will be more information from her to come in this
newsletter, but I just wanted to mention it and
encourage everyone to come if they can! It should be
a fun time to reunite with your sisters!
Additionally, for several years we have been working
on establishing a Housing Corporation at the strong
suggestion/requirement of AZD National and are
looking for anyone who might be interested in serving
on the Corporation board. It is my understanding that
this can be a fairly minimal time commitment but that
we need an advisory board of individuals to make big
financial and housing decisions for the chapter when
they arise. If you think you might be interested and
would like more information about this, please reply to
the AZD blitz account and I will get back to you!
Best wishes to all of you! We look forward seeing
many of you at the Anniversary celebration!
Happy New Year and TFJ,
’09s during Rush (Round 1 – Pajama Party)
Membership News
We welcomed 39 lovely new members this fall!
Many thanks to the help of the dedicated sisters
who made rush a great success. We not only met
quota, but each round earned our highest return
rates in recent years. We look forward to an equally
fantastic winter rush with the assistance of our
newly initiated sisters.
’08s during Rush (Round 1 – Pajama Party)
The fall term certainly had its share of excitement! All
of our National Reports have been handed in, and
our statements have been reconciled. Based on
requests from our National, we were required to use
only Omega billing. This was quite a change for most
of the sisters, but the transition ran smoothly. We
will continue to use Omega billing in the winter.
I look forward to hearing from some of you
regarding the formal collection. Have a great holiday!
Panhellenic Notes
Led by President Kate Robb '08, a member of
Alpha Xi Delta, the Panhellenic Council had a very
successful fall. For the first half of the term, the
Council focused its efforts on new member
recruitment. With so many women on campus
deciding to rush, the fall is always very busy!
Recruitment went well, however, and every woman
who went through rush in its entirety was offered a
bid (Alpha Xi Delta welcomed a particularly
outstanding class!).----------------------------
In addition, Panhell sponsored two "Sister-Mixer
Lunches" at the Canoe Club, which are designed to
bring women from each house on campus together
to discuss common interests and concerns. As
always, these lunches were very popular and
additional lunches are planned for next term.
Finally, Panhell's primary philanthropic effort this
fall was its Progressive Dinner. Due to the event's
popularity over the summer, it seemed like a perfect
(and delicious!) way to raise money for a great cause.
The dinner, which was open to campus, featured
appetizers at Alpha Xi Delta, a main course at
Kappa Delta Epsilon, and desserts at Delta Delta
Delta. As was the case this summer, all of the
proceeds went to Hayley's Hope, a foundation that
raises money for multiple sclerosis. The
organization was founded by Hayley Petit '11, who
w a s t r a g i c a l l y m u r d e r e d t h i s s u m m e r .
Next term, Panhell looks forward to winter
recruitment, the election of a new board of officers,
and more philanthropic and social events to benefit
both Greek women and the community in general. -
Programming Highlights
Hi everyone! We had an awesome term of
programming this fall, especially with the addition
of the super-enthusiastic '10 class who came enmasse
to every event! I'm confident that I never
once was able to over order from Ramunto’s
because there were always so many people (ok,
that’s untrue. I still successfully over-ordered a
couple of times, but that’s not the point).
The term started off with a house dinner where all
the senior sisters were able to see each other again
after the summer and hear about the juniors'
awesome 07X. These dinners continued
throughout the term, bringing sisters together to
hang out on Friday nights, and once to share their
favorite recipes from home at a delicious potluck.
Apple Picking at Poverty Lane Orchards
Back row (L-R): Cathy Chang ’08, Corinne Wyeth ’08, Robin McKechnie ’08, Pauline
Yu ’08, Monica Murphy ’07. Front: Julia Schwartz ’08, Victoria Fener ’08, Lauren
DeNatale ’09, Kim Rocio ’08, Kristin Li ’08, Dana Silberstein ’08, Annette Sacks ’08.
Sisters also made the long, arduous trek to Poverty
Lane Orchards to pick and taste excessive amounts
of apples until we all felt a little bit ill. Still, many a
delicious pie resulted from that expedition, so it was
well worth it.
After rush, we hit the ground running with a busy
week in which we hosted a huge Aires show at the
house for Halloween. The was great! Later that
week we held a small ring ceremony and reception
at the house to celebrate the engagement of Annette
Sacks '08 to her now fiance Tom.
The next week was equally busy as we hosted a
Center for Women and Gender Studies discussion
of dating violence, and a presentation and discussion
with Cate Edwards (daughter of John
Sisters gather in the Great Hall for Annette Sacks 08’s ring ceremony.
Edwards). Both of these events were open to the
whole campus and helped us work towards our goal
of opening our doors and welcoming the campus
and community to our home.
Right before Thanksgiving we hosted our second
big show of the term, a "triple-threat" of Sheba, The
Dog Day Players, and The Dodecaphonics. The
great hall was so packed that students were
crowding the front porch and enjoying the
unseasonably warm weather in order to hear.
Overall, programming this term was a huge success.
We were able to host more open events than ever
before, and were approached by many different
groups who wanted to hold events in our house,
which is very exciting.
I'm totally psyched to plan more fun events this
winter to bring our awesome '10 class into the
sisterhood. Happy holidays to all and best wishes
for the new year!
On February 21 st , 1998, the Alpha Xi Delta colony at
Dartmouth was installed as the Theta Psi chapter. To
commemorate the 10 th anniversary of our installation, we
are hosting a celebratory weekend during Winter Carnival!
Details about specific events are still in the early stages but we are
planning a variety of events for you to reconnect with the members
of your pledge class while meeting sisters from other Alpha Xi
generations. Relive all of your favorite memories from sophomore
Alumnae Updates
Adrian Loehwing ‘01 has finally filled up the last
remaining page in her passport, but luckily it was
nearly time to get a new one anyway. The fall
brought "Platinum" frequent-flier status, with trips
from London to New York, Hong Kong, and then
to Argentina to live in Buenos Aires for six weeks,
with a brief trip back up to Boston for
Thanksgiving. She also received her first visitor in
London when Jess Webster ‘01 stopped by in
August! At the time of writing, Adrian is still
currently enjoying the warm weather down in
Argentina, the world’s best steak, the friendly
porteños, and of course playing polo in the world
capital of the sport. She’ll be back to London for
a week before heading to New York for the
holidays, so wherever in the world you are, drop
her a line as chances are good she might be passing
through at some point...
Adrian Loehwing ’01 playing polo in Argentina
Alison Heerde ‘03 will be moving from NYC to
Chicago in early ‘08 (she will be working at Leo
Burnett). She’d love to connect with anyone who
is currently living there, or knows people who are,
since she doesn’t know many people out there!
Melissa Lafsky ‘00 and Allison Aboud ‘00 were
up at Dartmouth in November, both speaking on
panels at the Celebrating 35 Years of Women at
Dartmouth alumni event. They stopped by the
house afterwards and played pong with some of
the sisters. It was really fun to re-connect and see
how well the house and sisters are doing.
Lauren Kingsley ‘04 is engaged to Ryan Dunn
‘02.
Adrian Loehwing ’01 and Jess Webster ’01 on the London Tube.
Elysa Goldman ‘02 just wanted everyone to know
that she had a great time seeing the ‘02’s this past
reunion. She has been living in Istanbul, Turkey the
past 6 months (and will be there until March) working
on real estate development in Turkey and Poland. In
March, she will be heading back to Houston, TX
where she has been living for five years. She hopes
everyone in the house is well! The house looked
GREAT this summer.
Megan Steven-Wheeler ‘02 and her husband Kevin
Wheeler just bought a house in Norwich, VT.
Tia Pass ‘00 is excited to report that she and her
husband have a son, Rielly William Glidden, born on
9/28/07! He’s doing great!
Lacey Neahr ‘06 got a promotion in her job working
in Abercrombie and Fitch’s corporate office in
Columbus, OH!
Ema Scheidel
‘00’s daughter
Kaila turned 6
months old on
Nov 30th. This
is her celebrating
with a carrot
"cake"!

Erica Blachman ‘00 is engaged to Seth Hitchings (‘00)
and they are planning the wedding for this May. For the
past three years, she was out in California, but just
moved back to Boston. She and Seth had a blast on their
cross-country drive back, hitting the amazing national
parks in Utah and some down home BBQ in Memphis,
along with lots of other fun stops along the way. This
summer, she is studying for the Bar exam and will be
starting a clerkship in Boston this September.
Kara House Bayer ‘01 and her husband Mike
(Dartmouth ‘01) are expecting their second child, due in
June 2008.
Job Opportunity from Katie Miller ’01:
I work at Navy Federal Credit Union, I manage the
Internal Research and Analysis group in our brand
spankin’ new Office of Innovation. I know - buzz
words. ! Anyway, we’re looking to hire three
Innovation Business Consultants (a fancy way of saying
bright analysts with quantitative abilities). We have
EXCELLENT benefits, there’s tons of promotion
potential, and an amazing quality of life (i.e. you
actually can HAVE a life!) If there is anyone out there
interested in the position, please contact me
(Katherine.M.Miller.01@Alum.Dartmouth.org). I
would love to chat, shoot you a job description, and
give you details on the WONDERFUL DC Metro
area!
Julia Gertsberg ‘01 married Jon Scharf (Cornell
‘02) the last weekend in October. A whole bunch
of AXD’s traveled to Cape Cod to celebrate - Katie
Miller, Brooke Purcell, Nicole Diodato, Jessica
Webster, Liz Hoeffner, Kay Weston - along with
a bunch of other Dartmouth folks. It was a great
weekend, made that much better by all the girls.
And of course by the Red Sox winning the World
Series =) The photos above and below are from that
weekend!
Rebecca Aledort ‘04 is still living in New Orleans
and is working at the Pro Bono Project doing family
law. Lauren Kingsley ‘04 visited her in August -
Lauren is getting through her MD/PhD program at
UVA in record time and she lives with Julia Brant
04, who is doing the postbac program at UVA.
Lauren recently got engaged to Ryan Dunn 02!
Also in August, Rebecca went up to NYC and saw
Soh Won Cha ‘04, who is working at Plesser
Holland, Christina Poulsen ‘04, who is a 2L at UC
Davis, Katie Walters ‘04, who is an attorney in
Ohio and Rosie Rodriguez ‘05, who is working at
White and Case.

Amy Kurtz ‘06 just graduated from the French
Pastry School in Chicago with honors! She started
working full time at Trotters to Go which is
Charlie Trotter’s catering company here in
Chicago. It was a huge transition in her life and
she is extremely happy. She is also training for the
Nashville Country Music half- marathon with
Team in Training. She would love if some Alpha
Xi sisters could support her and help her reach her
fundraising goal of $3400. Her website is:
and any support no matter how great would be
much appreciated. The money goes to such an
amazing cause and she’d be happy to tell anyone
more about it!
Marina McClure ‘04 spent the fall on a
Dartmouth fellowship in South Africa and
London researching performance and culture.
(Above is a photo of her and her "pet" cheetah.
She lived on a game reserve in the Free State.)
With a few Dartmouth alums, they created a
month-long performance exchange in. South
Africa, and she’s looking forward to going back
over in 2009
