Wilsonart Flooring Introduces
Red-Hued Wood Designs
Red Hues Provide Contrast and Vibrance to Home Interiors
TEMPLE, TX — (August 1, 2006 ) — The continued trends of cross cultural design influences
is creating an emergence of flooring and accents featuring red-hued woods. Wilsonart Flooring
introduces a significant expansion of its red-hued wood designs in its Classic, Estate Plus and
Red Label high- pressure laminate flooring collections. The new designs include Santao
Rosewood, Sparrow Walnut, Dragon Cherry, El Dorado Wood, Allerton Hickory, Caryan
Walnut and Flinders Acacia. Including the new and existing designs, Wilsonart Flooring now
boasts the broadest line-up of red-hued wood flooring of any high-pressure laminate flooring
manufacturer.
Woods influenced by tones of red have become increasingly popular due to consumer
desires to add depth and contrast to the predominate monotone earth hues and neutrals found in
many homes, according to Gwen Petter, Wilsonart Flooring manager of surface design.
“Even though homeowners yearn for the security and restfulness associated with personal
retreats, they want a little spice,” says Petter. “That’s why we’re seeing such an interest in
warm, enveloping colors. A red-hued design laminate adds a wonderful and warm contrast to
the soft earth tones, and makes the room feel cozy and more intimate. A room can look washed
out without an eye-catching accent. Red-hued wood designs can provide this accent as well as
providing some depth and interest.
“We’re fascinated by other cultures, and that fascination is reflected in the styles in which
we decorate our homes,” says Petter. “Red-hued woods are prevalent in Moorish, Turkish and
even Latin design motifs.”
Wilsonart Flooring’s seven new red-hued designs are available in its Classic, Estate Plus,
and Red Label Collection design series. The Classic Collection is Wilsonart Flooring’s most
popular design family and features more than 34 different designs. It is backed by a 20-year
residential wear, stain, fade and moisture resistant warranty and is affordably priced. The new
Classic Collection red-hued wood designs include:
Allerton Hickory (5” full board) - Named for poet Ellen Allerton who penned “My
Hickory Tree” in 1894, describing the beauty and significance of the hickory tree in
Kansas. Allerton Hickory is brown to reddish-brown, with color-play of green and gold
undertones. The result is a balanced, neutral grain combination that makes it an attractive
choice for consumers.
Caryan Walnut (5” full board) - Carya was a Greek Goddess loved by Dionysus, who
transformed her into a walnut tree when she died to create a living monument. In Caryan
Walnut, contrast is achieved through the integration of knots while beautiful highlights
are captured in lighter tones to add a casual elegance.
Flinders Acacia (5” full board) - Prominent in North Flinders, Australia, Acacia is a
slow growing tree with hard, dense wood. Flinders Acacia features dark, red-brown color
with complex color play and random grain structure that varies from straight, open, tight
grains to wild, cathedral shapes.
The Estate Plus Collection is targeted at homeowners who need the durability of a
commercial-grade floor. All designs feature a heavy-duty wear layer for increased stain and
scuff resistance and an acoustic attenuation layer to reduce noise. It features a residential
Lifetime warranty for wear, fade, stain and moisture resistance. The new Estate Plus red-hued
wood designs include:
Sparrow Walnut (7 ¾” 2-board blocked design) - The straight-to-wavy grain seen in
the Sparrow Walnut design gives it a fine, even structure. It consists of narrow, pinkish
sapwood and brown heartwood with gray-green and fine blackish streaks.
Santao Rosewood (7 ¾” 2-board blocked design) - Found in the Amazon and named
for its fragrant rose scented oil, Santao Rosewood is used in stringed instrument
fingerboards, and its oil was once a main ingredient in Chanel No.5. The straight grain is
highlighted by large open pores, subtle cathedral graining and flecked, brown to violetcolored
heartwood with irregular black streaks.
The Red Label Collection features cutting edge fashion designs for style conscious
consumers. It features a residential Lifetime warranty for wear, fade, stain and moisture
resistance. The 2006 red-hued wood designs include:
El Dorado Wood (5” full board - Distressed Texture) - An American red oak, El
Dorado Wood has scattered knots and quartered flake figuring, which captures the rustic
nature of the Southwest. This colorful design features deep, rich red-browns and glowing
highlights with a distressed texture that accentuates its rustic quality and casual
imperfection.
Dragon Cherry (5” full board) - The dragon is an Asian symbol of happiness,
immortality, and procreation. Created from a cherry veneer stained by an Asian designer
and aged for half a year, Dragon Cherry offers a very natural look with unique aging
characteristics of light and dark areas within its design.
