Open Gardens 2009
All on one day, all in Vancouver – make an
afternoon of it!
Sunday, July 5 th , 2009, 1 – 5 p.m.
Vancouver East Side:
Ornella Bombino’s – 1209 Nootka Street
(North Renfrew area) – a lovely oldfashioned
garden with roses, perennials,
some stunning specimen plants, and a
touch of whimsy!
Dale Akerstrom’s – 2851 East 10 th Avenue
(just off Renfrew Street) – a six-year old
garden that was ridiculously overplanted
originally so now it is a bit on the crowded
side! Along with pergolas, patios, and a
pond, there are trees, shrubs, perennials
and 40-something roses.
Vancouver West Side:
Sanda Simic’s – 3335 West 37 th (just
off Blenheim Street) – a beautiful newer
garden with some of the most healthy,
fragrant, luscious roses you can imagine.
Sanda has a green thumb and a big heart,
and her roses seem to like it!
Janet Wood’s – 7084 Blenheim Street
(Southlands area) – an award-winning
mature garden with incredible climbing
roses, and oodles of new and rare rose
specimens. The most endearing feature
of the garden is, of course, the inimitable
hostess!
Lesley Finlay’s – 6633 MacDonald Street
(also in Southlands, just south of Marine
Drive) – Lesley’s garden has it all – English
manor elegance, artistic urns, formal
spaces, lilies the size of trees, and two of
every rose ever sold! (OK, that’s a slight
exaggeration, but only just!)
