A Seven Show Season
Yes, this year REP is presenting seven productions for you to choose
from, with the Season concluding in February 2014. This change means
we launch the season earlier—now mid October—allowing you have more
time to decide which shows to attend. The selection will go back to six per
year in 2014, but will continue to go from April to February of the following
year.

Yes, to make things easier for you we are continuing this payment system
for subscribers. All Full Package and Concession subscribers are able to

and the balance on the 8 February 2013. A one-off $5 fee applies.

The Under 30 Package is available to patrons under 30 at the time the
subscription is purchased. Proof of age must be provided with your

President’s Welcome
Welcome to Canberra Rep’s fantastic 81st season
Canberra Rep has taken a new tack this year by announcing a 7 show season,
the usual 6 shows in 2013 and the fi rst for 2014. This is to enable the launch to
happen a little earlier so actors and directors have more time to prepare and
to take the pressure off other year-end activities. There is an exciting array of
offerings with some outstanding directors lined up for this season.
As you are aware, the 2013 Season opens with the witty and moving true
story Calendar Girls by Tim Firth based on the Miramax motion picture by
Julliette Towhidi and Tim Firth. Catherine Hill returns to direct this wonderful
play where middle-aged Annie Clarke loses her husband to leukemia and her
best friend suggests a—ahem—cheeky new way to raise money for research.
After last year’s huge success with Pride and Prejudice, Duncan Ley
returns to direct REP’s second play of the season, Under Milk Wood, a
1954 Radio Drama by Dylan Thomas that was later adapted to the stage.
A journey through the dreams and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of
a fi ctional small Welsh fi shing village Llareggub (“Bugger all” backwards).
Our third offering for the year is a return to REP’s tradition of variety shows
with Jazz Garters: 4 A Century of Entertainment directed by Cate Clelland.
The excitement generated by this type of theatre is not to be missed and
will thrill all who venture to see it.
Following on from his outstanding and award winning success, with The
Pig Iron People in 2011, Aarne Neeme is back at REP to direct our fourth
production, Don Parties On, a new play by David Williamson. It is the
sequel to the 1971 play Don’s Party, with the same characters 40 years on
plus a few new arrivals and another election!
The friends have all aged and been affected by life’s experiences very
differently over the decades. Views have polarised and diverged. This play
is full of humour and surprises, a new classic and a fascinating comment
on life from a boomer’s perspective.
The Book of Everything by Richard Tulloch is the play based on the Dutch
children’s novel Het boek van alle dingen by Guus Kuijer. REP’s fi fth
Season play is a stunning tale of life as seen through the eyes of a child.
The play relates the tale of a nine-year-old (nearly 10) boy named Thomas
who sees things no one else can. Jarrad West will bring his many talents
to the fore in directing this wonderfully insightful play that was awarded the
Gouden Griffel literary award in 2005.
The fi nal play of 2013 follows REP’s tradition of the end-of-year farce.
The Fox on the Fairway is a comedy by Ken Ludwig to be directed by Liz
Bradley. The play has been touted as “Ludwig’s tribute to the great English
farces of the 1930s and 1940s”, extremely funny and not to be missed.
And fi nally to kick off 2014 with a bang, Jordan Best, one of Canberra’s
very best young directors will direct a perennial favourite, Steel Magnolias
by Robert Harling.
We are delighted to have brought together such a talented team of directors
to compliment the fantastic array of shows for this season.

When the chairman of a golf club risks everything on
a dangerously large bet, he needs a champion golfer
at short notice. The chaos that follows includes an
engagement ring, a very expensive Ming vase, some
quite repulsive golf outfi ts, wives both current and ex,
plus a lot of running around the clubhouse in this fast
and furious farce.

Conditions of Sale
Tickets will be held at the Box Offi ce unless otherwise requested (postage fees
may apply).
Seating allocation for Subscribers – Return your subscription form as
soon as possible to secure best available seating. Front row seating is
reserved for patrons with mobility or visual impairment. Limit of 4 A row seats per
booking, any other requests must be made through the box offi ce.
Hearing Loop operates in rows C to H, patrons are advised that the loop operates
with t switch aids only.
Seating is reserved for all Subscription Season performances at Theatre 3.
The right of admission is reserved.
The right is reserved to vary advertised artists and programs.
Latecomers may not be admitted until there is a convenient break in the performance.
Patrons are advised to arrive half an hour before the scheduled performance.
No camera, sound or visual recorders, including mobile phones, may be
operated within the auditorium.
Management requests that all pagers and mobile phones be turned off before
entry to the auditorium.
If other conditions apply, they are displayed either in the Box Offi ce or near the
entrance to the venue.
Exchanges and refunds
Subscribers are allowed one free exchange of dates per production. Any further
exchanges, and non-subscribers, will be charged at $3 per exchange (subject to
availability).
Exchanges must be made in person or in writing two business days before the
date of the earlier ticketed performance—original tickets must be returned at the
same time.
Refunds are not available unless the performance is cancelled (non-subscription
sales only).
No refunds are available on any unused part of subscription packages.

Canberra Rep celebrates its 81st Birthday in 2013, and 40 years as the resident
theatre company at Theatre 3.
As Canberra’s own theatre company since 1932, Rep has played an important
part in the cultural and social life of the City. Theatre 3, 3 Repertory Lane—the
home of Canberra Rep since 1973—continues to be a testament to the hard work
and dedication to our members and supporters. Rep receives assistance from
the ACT Government through the use and maintenance of Theatre 3, and also
from corporate sponsorships. We do not receive any operational funding. Our
activities are primarily self funded; we rely heavily on ticket sales, memberships
and increasingly on tax-deductible donations.

Facilities Parking
Theatre 3 is a 188-seat theatre, which has inclusive public access
for theatre patrons into the auditorium from the main foyer area.
There are toilet facilities, including one toilet for the disabled, a bar
and coffee bar. There is a hearing loop installed and the auditorium
can accommodate up to 11 wheelchairs.
How to Find Theatre 3
Theatre 3 is located on Repertory Lane, off Ellery Crescent, Acton ACT. The
closest main road is Marcus Clarke Street.
● For those arriving from the north side of town, turn into Marcus Clarke St from
Barry Drive.
● For those arriving from the south side of town, get onto Edinburgh Ave via the
city lane from the Tuggeranong Parkway or the Museum exit from Parkes Way
and turn right at the overpass—then left into Marcus Clarke St; or take the City
West exit after the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, turn left into Edinburgh Ave
and right into Marcus Clarke St.

Currently, all patrons’ parking is in the car park to the rear of Theatre 3, accessible
from Ellery Crescent and Repertory Lane.
There is also overfl ow parking across the road from Repertory Lane between the
theatre and the National Film and Sound Archive.
The theatre does not have dedicated Accessible parking spaces for people with a
disability; however, there are two dedicated parking spaces in the car park to the
rear of Theatre 3 (near the School of Music).
Entry into the theatre is at ground level and cars may be driven close to the side
entry to facilitate access if required.
Please note that this is a pick-up and drop-off point only—access to all laneways
must remain clear at all other times.
The rear of Theatre 3 is a designated Cab Spot point for Canberra
Elite Taxi Service. Call 13 22 27 and quote Cab Spot 13. For all
other services quote Theatre 3.
Parking is not permitted by theatre patrons in the theatre
courtyard during performances.

History

Canberra Repertory Society
Administration of the scholarship: from 1972 to 1983 was by the Theatre Players.
When the Theatre Players Company ceased to exist, the administration of the
scholarship was passed to and has since been administered by the Canberra
Repertory Society.
About the Scholarship
The Theatre Players Scholarship is open to all residents, or former residents, of
the ACT who are undertaking full time tertiary training in drama or a theatre related
course at a recognised institution.
Interviews are held in Canberra soon after the application closing date.
Candidates should endeavour to be available at this time. If not available, you will
be considered on your written submission.
The selection committee reserves the right to short-list applicants for interview; it
is therefore in your own best interests to supply the fullest possible information of
your career aspirations, previous experience and achievements to support your
application.
When to apply
Applications may be lodged at any time during the year prior to the award year.
All applications must be received by the end of the second week of January of
each award year.
