George Brant
Playwright, The Mourners’ Bench
George Brant’s scripts have been produced
and developed internationally by Trinity
Repertory Company, Cleveland Play
House, the Playwrights Foundation, the
Playwrights’ Center, the Drama League,
and Premiere Stages, among others. His
script Elephant’s Graveyard was awarded
the Kennedy Center’s David Cohen National
Playwriting Award and the Keene Prize
for Literature. He has received writing
fellowships from the MacDowell Colony
and the Michener Center for Writers, as
well as commissions from Dobama Theatre
and Theatre 4. His work is published
by Samuel French, Smith & Kraus, and
Broadway Play Publishing. Mr. Brant
wishes to acknowledge that The Mourners’
Bench was developed with the generous
support of WordBRIDGE Playwright’s
Lab, Blue Mountain Center, Laura Kepley,
Naomi Wallace, Florida Studio Theatre,
HRC Showcase Theatre, Djerassi Resident

Deborah Salem Smith
Playwright, Love Alone
Deborah Salem Smith is Trinity Rep’s playwright-in-residence.
Love Alone received an
Honorable Mention by the Jane Chambers
Playwriting Award. Her previous honors
include an Emerging American Artist
Fulbright for playwriting, where she
worked with the Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s
national theater. Her work has been recognized
by a National Mellon Fellowship in
the Humanities, a MacDowell Fellowship,
a Colby Fellowship, a Major Hopwood
Award, as well as writing and visual arts
prizes from the University of Michigan
and Princeton University. Her other plays
include Boots on the Ground, Some Things
Are Private, Good Business, and Caviar.
