Calculating a Fluid Deficit • Fluid requirement for normal adults: Fluids/hour= 60 ml + (Wt in Kg-20)ml • Probably plateaus at 90-100 kg body wt, so not more than 140 ml/hr • Deficit is calculated based on hours of NPO status: 8 hrs NPO for a 70 kg Pt: 8 X (60+60)+ 960 ml
