The spring of 2007 I started competing on her going to the left and since I trained her to the left I made her into my style a little more and we really kind of gelled together and she developed into a great one. From then on we have been winning. She carried me to a World Championship in 2008, Reserve in 2007 and 2009 and third place in 2010. In 2011, Martha won the NFR average and that win carried us to another world title. She has about $1.75 million in career earnings. Interestingly, in her career, 35 rodeos in a year is the most rodeos she has been to. I bought Mo when he was a 6 year old and I have been seasoning him since then. I won Jackson, MS and won several other smaller rodeos and have won rounds on him at Red Bluff, Houston and Calgary, Pendleton. I won about $80k in 2011 on him while Martha was coming back from injury. In 2012, I have probably won around $50k at approved rodeos along with recently winning over $40k at the Canadian Finals Rodeo. In his lifetime he is closing in on $250,000 in earnings. I’m a firm believer in having them feeling as good as possible and that requires a huge team of people working on them. Here is an excerpt from our Report after Walker and Latte won Nampa, ID earlier in the year that tells the inspirational story of mary Walker and Latte: Walker: Cheri Cogburn had asked me to ride Latte (Perculatin) in August or September of 2010. She wanted me to get him rodeo ready for her. I had always liked him and had even tried to buy him a couple times. I took him home and started teaching him how to run and we did pretty good. We started at jackpots and went to rodeos and he did well. Then in April 2011, my son, Reagon, died (in an auto accident). After that Byron actually bought Latte for me as a surprise on May 17, 2011. He and Cheri got together and he bought him for me as a surprise. In June Latte fell with me at the 3rd barrel at Crosby, TX. The fall shattered my pelvis, broke two toes, and fractured 2 vertebraes in my back. So Latte got six months off while I recovered. Byron rode him a couple times for me while I was recovering. He said he is the slowest horse he has ever been on. He is so lazy in the pasture, we always joke that flying turtles could pass him! WNFr continued From Page 10 After a while, my therapist told me to get back on a horse. I had gone from a wheelchair to a walker, but I couldn’t even walk yet. I started back on a black and white paint we have that is a grand entry horse for Ft Worth every year and has been to the NFR as a grand entry horse. Byron had to put me on and I rode the first time for 15 minutes. I rode Paint 4-5 times per week just walking, trying to get my balance back. Everyday I had therapy, I rode. About November 2011, I started riding Latte again. I just worked on getting back to trusting myself. My first rodeo back was Odessa (January 2012) and I placed in the second round and then started heading to rodeos. I was still weak and only 95 pounds but I had to get my strength and courage back and we were back on the road. If it wasn’t for Latte, I don’t know if I would have been able to come back.
