last year’s success, Rigoletto, one of the most famous
A Greek premiere of a less known opera of Donizetti,
Emilia di Liverpool is presented by the Greek National
Opera. It belongs to the genre of the Napolitan opera
semiseria, with prose dialogues but also characteristic
elements of romantic aesthetics, such as the storm and
the duel at a graveyard. In 1957 the play revived due to the
famous soprano Joan Sutherland, who was then at the
beginning of her career. The direction is by Gilles Rico.
