Being a Jew in Modern Day Poland Monday 11th March, 8:00pm <strong>KLC</strong> is delighted to present the award winning film Torn Following the screening of the film The Chief Rabbi of Poland Rabbi Michael Schudrich will speak about fascinating issues arising from the film, in which he features, followed by Q &A Torn tells the powerful story of Romuald Waszkinel. Can one be a Catholic Priest and an observant Jew at the same time? 12 years after he was ordained as a Polish Catholic priest, Romuald Waszkinel discovered that he was born to Jewish parents and that his name was Jacob Weksler.
This film follows his amazing journey, from conducting mass in a church in Poland to life as an observant Jew in a religious kibbutz in Israel. Romuald is torn between his two identities. He is unable to renounce either, and therefore is rejected by both religions and the State of Israel. He is required to choose... Running time: 72min Language: Polish and Hebrew with English Subtitles. Chief Rabbi Michael Schudrich New York born, Rabbi Michael Schudrich served as Rabbi of the Jewish Community of Japan from 1983 to 1989. He began working in Poland in 1990 on behalf of the Lauder Foundation. In 2000, he became the Rabbi of Warsaw and Lodz and since 2004 has served as Chief Rabbi of Poland.
