TRAINING OF YOUTHS ON CONSTRUCTION OF SOLAR DRYERS FOR
DRYING VEGETABLES
A s part of its efforts to
enlighten farmers on safe and cost
effective methods of preserving
fruits and vegetables, WOFAN
trained 120 youth group members
from selected communities in
Kano state on the construction of
simple solar dryers. The solar
dryers are made from wood planks,
zinc and wire nets.
The wood planks and zinc are used
to construct a frame and surface for
the fruits and vegetables to be dried
on; while the wire net is used to
cover the front and side openings of
the wooden frame. This allows
ventilation for the fruits or
vegetable being dried and keeps
out sand, flies and other insects
from contaminating the food items
while being dried.
