somewhat centered in the square. Butterflies will be at different
angles within the squares and some wings will be clipped.
From B1261 Mint and B1262 Plum:
• Cut one 91 ⁄2" x width of the fabric (WOF) strip. Sub-cut the strips
into twenty 11 ⁄2" x 91 ⁄2" strips.
• Cut one 71 ⁄2" x WOF strip. Sub-cut the strips into twenty 11 ⁄2" x
From B1260 Jazz, B1262 Ocean, B9529 Twinkle, B9529 Vivid, B9595
Jewel and B9595 Pool:
• Cut three 23 ⁄4" x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into 216 23 ⁄4" x
From B1219 Mystic:
• Cut three 31 ⁄2" x WOF strips. Sub-cut the strips into thirty 31 ⁄2"
squares for cornerstones.
From B7900 Black:
• Cut six 21 ⁄4" x WOF strips for binding.
Block Construction
1. Stitch one 11 ⁄2" x 71 ⁄2" B1262 Plum strip to each side of the 71 ⁄2"
B1259 Dazzle block. Press the seams toward the border.
2. Stitch one 11 ⁄2" x 91 ⁄2" B1259 Plum strip to the top and bottom of
the ten bordered blocks created in step 1. Blocks should measure 91 ⁄2"
square.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 using the same size B1261 Mint strips to frame
the ten 71 ⁄2" B1259 Black blocks.
Quilt Top Assembly
4. Sew together four 23 ⁄4" x 31 ⁄2" sashing rectangles, alternating light
and dark colors. Make forty-nine four-strip sashing segments.
Note: If you want the same fabric to surround individual cornerstone
blocks, plan the arrangement of rectangles accordingly by sewing the
same fabric to the sashing segment ends in groups of four.
5. Arrange the completed units following the quilt diagram. Orient
the butterfly blocks with the short border on the sides, and the longer
borders on the top and bottom. Position the pieced sashing strips so
that the light fabrics and dark fabrics outline alternating cornerstone
blocks.
6. Stitch the units together in rows, pressing seams toward the sashing.
Stitch the rows together aligning seams. Press seams toward the sashing.
Finishing
7. Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and quilt as desired.
8. Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams.
Fold and press the resulting long strip in half lengthwise with wrong
sides together. Stitch to the quilt front, matching raw edges and mitering
the corners.
9. Fold the binding to the quilt underside and hand-stitch the folded
edge to the quilt back.
