LANDSCAPE GARDENING TRAINING COURSE
(Four days Certificate Course)
INTRODUCTION
In India at present there is increasing interest in gardens. There is
an increasing demand for trained gardeners and garden superintendents
and Horticulturist literate, scientifically trained men who can make gardens
look well and pay handsomely. The Required vocational education and
training in LANDSCAPE GARDENING is intended to be imparted through
three parts
The first parts deals with the principles adopted in laying out gardens,
the components of modern garden and how they are formed and several
garden operations such as the preparation of land, propagation of plants
etc.
The second part contains descriptive lists of ornamental plants that are
commonly grown in our gardens or are worth growing.
The third part includes the Expert Landscaping Businessmen lectures
and field visits of different commercial landscaping projects, hi-Tech nursery
and actual demonstrations of different garden development operations.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
To provide training in practical
management of ornamental
gardening and Landscaping
To provide technical skills to the
students to establish and manage a
small Commercial horticulture
enterprises.
To provide training in the
propagation of Ornamental
landscaping crops.
To provide training in the production
of flower, bedding and foliage
Plants.

SKILLS TO BE PROVIDED
Identification of garden problems -
nature and extent.
Identification of Garden Plants
To impart basic techniques in
gardening.
To do various preparation methods like
sowing, planting and raising nursery.
Accequaintence with garden tools and
equipment.
Layout and maintenance of gardens,
lawns and different garden Components.
Acquaintance with package of practices
on farm.
To propagate the plants by various
methods.

Introduction to Gardening
Garden Implements and
Accessories
Layout – Planning of Different
garden Designs.
Containers - Earthen containers,
pots, polythene bags, cement pots,
ceramic pots.
Propagation - Seeds, cuttings,
layering, budding and grafting
Types of Gardening - Formal,
informal, landscape, institutions, public
gardens, Parks, Mughal, Japanese and
English Gardens.
Identification of ornamental plants,
seasonal annuals, edges, hedges,
shrubs, Creepers, trees, vines
(commercial nursery)

COURSE CONTENTS
Features of Gardens - Gate, lawn,
shrubbery, flower beds, borders, paths,
hedges, Edges, steps, statues, fountains,
bird paths, streams, pools, waterfalls,
rockery, Arches, pergolas, hanging pots,
bird paths, tea house, rock garden and
water garden.
Principles and Practices of landscape
design for home gardens and public
parks.
Ornamental Gardening - Scope;
importance; nursery management; lawns,
layout of Lawn, grasses; lawn and its
maintenance.
Design and layout of gardens for
home, school, college, public buildings,
parks, Villages, Industrial garden and
kitchen garden.
Green Houses-shade houses, uses,
application in horticulture.

COURSE CONTENTS Pruning and training of plants -
objective and their methods.
Principles of making bonsai and
Flower arrangement.
Regular maintenance of garden
Skills provide to avoid mistakes in
gardening.
