Monumental Iron Works is a modular system,

iron. Because there is no welding, red rust 

problems that typically would destroy the

with repainting a welded system. Monumental 

Iron Works utilizes a duplex coating of 

polyester resin over hot-dip galvanized steel

Pro-Arc TM Brackets 

The patented bracket fastens panels to the posts using 

a bolt-thru design for added strength and security. By 

swiveling 30° in any direction it allows for grade and 

layout changes. The fully enclosed bracket is very 

user-friendly allowing for field installation 

tolerances while providing a finished 

look from unsightly rail cuts, short 

sections, and biased panels.

To increase panel strength, industrial drive 

rivets with 1,100 lbs. of holding power and 

1,500 lbs. of sheer strength fasten each 

picket to the rails giving the system the 

solid look and feel of traditional ornamental 

iron. Fastening each picket to the rails 

creates an integral structure that provides 

fixed-point loading and spreads any vertical 

or horizontal force over the entire section. 

This avoids the possible drawbacks of 

welding, such as weakened metal that can 

cause pickets to tear away from the rails or 

the burn-off of galvanized coating which can 

lead to rust.

Its structure consists of galvanized steel horizontal “U” rails with a minimum 

50,000 psi yield strength, interlocking galvanized steel boards, and galvanized 

steel posts in appropriate sizes and wall thickness depending on application. 

A polyester resin powder-coated finish creates an aesthetically pleasing, corrosion resistant, and virtually 

maintenance-free visual barrier. Gates are available in either swing or internal roller cantilever slide. An excellent

per ASTM B86-83Z 33521. Ball and socket design 

capable of 30° swivel (up/down-left/right). Bracket to 

fully encapsulate rail end for complete security that is 

aesthetically pleasing. 

E. FINIALS (WHEN REQUIRED): Cast aluminum or 

galvanized cast iron. 

F RINGS (WHEN REQUIRED): Cast aluminum. 

BASIC SPECIFICATIONS 

1.3 ASSEMBLY: 

A. Sections shall be assembled using 2, 3, or 4 rails that are 

punched out to insert pickets through them. Pickets are 

riveted to “U” rails using 1/4" (6 mm) industrial drive 

rivets. 

B. Rails are attached to posts by means of rail brackets. Rail 

brackets are attached to posts using a 1/4" bolt and lock 

nut. Rails are attached to brackets using 1/4” industrial 

drive rivets. 

C. 4" Rings (when specified) are attached to top rail by 

inserting mounting blocks into top rail and riveting 

through side of rail using a 1/4" industrial drive rivet. 

The bottom of ring is held in place by inserting dowel 

that protrudes from ring through predrilled hole in top 

of bottom rails (9" rings have mounting blocks at top and 

bottom and require two rivets). 

D. Finials (when specified) are attached to pickets using a 

1/4" industrial drive rivet. 

1.4 COATING: Monumental Iron Works utilizes a duplex 

coating system of polyester resin over hot-dipped galvanized 

steel for maximum corrosion protection on all posts, pickets and 

rails. Fence sections are coated unassembled. (Coating of assembled 

sections is unacceptable). 

All fence sections and components are given a 4-stage "Power 

Wash" pre-treatment process that cleans and prepares the metal 

substrate to assure complete adhesion of the powder coated 

finish. 

Stage 1 - All metal substrate is CLEANED and PHOSPHATE 

treated simultaneously to form an AMORPHOUS STRUC- 

TURE on the metal substrate for SUPERIOR POWDER 

COATING ADESHION. 

Stage 2 - All metal substrate is given a thorough WATER 

RINSE to prepare the phosphate-coated metal substrate for the 

SEAL RINSE. 

Stage 3 - All metal substrate is given an NON-CHROMATED 

seal for added corrosion protection and improved adhesion. 

Stage 4 - All metal substrate is then baked dry, prior to the 

application of the POWDER COATING. 

All metal substrate is given a polyester resin based powder 

coated finish applied by the electrostatic spray process to a 

minimum thickness of 2.5 (0.635 mm) mils. The polyester 

resin finish is cured in a 450 degree F (232° C) metal 

temperature for 20 minutes. 

STANDARD COLORS - Black, White, Bronze, Green and 

Tan. Custom colors are available upon request. 

1.5 SPECIAL WARRANTY: Provide manufacturer's 

standard limited warranty that its ornamental fence system is 

free from defects in material and workmanship including 

cracking, peeling, blistering and corroding for a period of 15 

years from date of purchase.

Internal-Roller 

Cantilever Slide Gate 

1.1 SCOPE: This specification covers materials and construction 

requirements for Internal-Roller Cantilever Gates. 

1.2 MATERIALS: 

A. GATE FRAMES: Fabricate cantilever slide gate top 

frame using two (2) 2" (50 mm) square aluminum members, 

ASTM B 221, alloy and temper 6063-T6, weighing .939 lb./ft 

(1.39 kg/m). Weld members together forming a rigid integrated 

enclosed gate track and rail (no substitution). Provide two 

(2) truck assemblies for each gate leaf. Bottom rail 2" x 4" 

(50mm x 100mm) aluminum member weighing 1.71 lb./ft 

(2.54 kg/m). Gates over 27' (8230 mm) in single opening shall 

be shipped in 2 parts and field spliced with special attachments 

provided by the manufacturer. 

For gate openings over 15' (4572 mm), weld internal uprights 

1" x 2" (25 mm x 50 mm) aluminum members in gate frames at 

maximum 6'-2" (1880 mm) face to face, subdividing frame into 

panels. Gates under 15' will have two equal panels. 

For gate opening sizes 25' (7620 mm) to 32' (9754 mm), weld 

two (2) enclosed gate track and rails together forming an integrated 

dual enclosed gate track. Provide two (2) SurTrac internal 

roller assemblies for each track on each gate leaf, total of 

four (4) roller assemblies. Bottom rail shall consist of 2" x 4" 

(50 mm x 100 mm) aluminum member weighing 1.71 lb./ft 

(2.54 kg/m). 

For gate opening sizes 33' (10058 mm) to 40' (12192 mm), fabricate 

24" (610 mm) wide rigid box frame truss. Truss shall 

consist of dual side frames, constructed similar to standard single 

leaf gates, separated by square cross member and diagonal 

truss rod bridging. Dual side frames each contain enclosed gate 

track and rail to provide support for truss from both sides. 

Provide four (4) SurTrac internal roller assemblies for each track 

on each gate leaf, total of eight (8) roller assemblies. Weld steel 

plate between top of support posts for positive roller alignment 

on tracks. 

For gate opening sizes 41' (12497 mm) to 50' (15240 mm) 

contact manufacturer for custom engineering. 

B. ORANAMENTAL PICKET INFILL: 1-3/8" (35 mm) 

wide x 1-1/2" (38 mm) deep, 11 gauge [0.120" (3.05 mm)] wall 

thickness aluminum "U" channel. Punch rails to receive pickets 

and weld inside gate frame. Pickets 1" (25 mm) galvanized 

square steel tubular members per ASTM A 787, having a 

45,000 psi (310 Mpa) of gauge, spacing, and accessories to 

match fence. Pickets are riveted to "U" rails using 1/4" (6 mm) 

industrial drive rivets. 

C. BRACING: Provide diagonal adjustable length truss 

rods, of 3/8" (9.5 mm) galvanized steel, in each panel of gate 

frame. 

D. ENCLOSED GATE TRACK: Integrated enclosed gate 

track and rail, aluminum extrusion with weight of 3.72 

lb./ft. (5.54 kg/m). Track to withstand reaction load of 

2,000 lb. (907 kg). 

BASIC SPECIFICATIONS 

E. INTERNAL-ROLLER ASSEMBY: Swivel type, zinc die 

cast, with 4 double sealed steel ball bearing rollers 2" (50 mm) in 

diameter by 9/16" (14 mm) in width, and 2 side rolling wheels to 

ensure roller alignment in track (no substitution). Mount rollers 

on post brackets using 7/8" (22 mm) diameter ball bolts with 1/2" 

(13 mm) shank. Design roller assembly to withstand same reaction 

load as track. 

F. GATE HARDWARE: Gate hangers, latches, brackets, 

guide assemblies, and stops of malleable iron or steel, galvanized 

after fabrication. Provide positive latch with provisions for 

padlocking. 

G. BOTTOM ROLLER GUIDE: Each roller guide assembly 

shall consist of two (2) 4" (100 mm) diameter rubber wheels, 

straddling bottom horizontal gate rail, allowing adjustment to 

maintain gate frame plumb and in proper alignment. Attach one 

assembly to each support post. 

H. GATE POSTS: Galvanized steel 4" (100 mm) square, 

weighing 9.59 lb./ft. (14.27 kg/m)]. Provide one (1) latch post 

and two (2) support posts for single slide gates and four (4) 

support posts for double slide gates. 

I. ACCESSORIES: Pre-assemble gates with ornamental 

accessories attached using industrial drive rivets to prevent removal 

and vandalism.
