for its famous Leaning Tower, but
there is so much more to Pisa than
just this striking landmark. Today,
Pisa is crammed full of wonderful,
historical monuments and buildings
dating back many hundreds of years.
Pisa is also known for its excellent
university, which was established in
1343 and has become one of Italy’s
top schools.

of the most beautiful and richest cities in art
and history of the world. Our tour guide will
take you to a interesting and pleasant walking
tour through the city. In the afternoon you
will be free to visit the Uffizi Gallery and to go
shopping.

FIRENZE
The jewel of Renaissance, Florence,
remains essentially what it was – a
busy business centre. Even before the
Renaissance was over, the wily
Florentines had to concede that their
town was on the wane, increasingly
ignored on the European stage. But
they never forgot their proud heritage
and it was rediscovered in earnest by
the rest of Europe from the late
18th century. Curious and admiring
travelers, particularly the English,
descended on the city as part of their
Grand Tour. The city’s artists and
sculptors, supported by the Medici
and other powerful families, regaled
the city with their finest creations.
Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello,
Giotto, the Lippis, Masaccio, Botticelli,
Pontormo and a host of others left their
mark, and formidable galleries such as
the Uffizi, Pitti and Accademia today
house many of their works.Home to the

SAN GIMIGNANO
San Gimignano is one of the most
fascinating examples of medieval
towns, declared a World Heritage Site
by Unesco: as you crest the hill
coming from the east, the 14 towers
of this walled town look like a
medieval Manhattan. And when you
arrive you might well feel that half
of Manhattan has moved in. There’s
good reason for such popularity. The
towers, which once numbered 72,
were symbols of the power and wealth
of the city’s medieval families. San
Gimignano is surrounded by lush,
productive land and the setting is
altogether enchanting.

YOUR DAY
Experience a whole, intense, unforgettable
day dedicated to discover one of the most
enchanting landscapes in the World. Four
villages, suspended between sea and land,
hanging from sheer cliffs surrounded by hills
and vineyards. You will visit the first village
“Vernazza”, and admire the intricate layout
of this village with its “carruggi” (narrow
lanes) and steep stairways. You will proceed
to Monterosso, an ancient fishing village
considered the pearl of the Cinque Terre,
where you will be overcome by enchanting
beaches and luxuriant vegetation that
surrounds the little village. Here you will
have free time to plunge into the crystal
sea and eat a typical Ligurian lunch. You will
visit Manarola, from where, walking along
the famous “Path of Love”, we’ll arrive in
Riomaggiore.

CINQUE TERRE
Strung along 18km of serrated cliffs
between Levanto and La Spezia,
the Cinque Terre is one of Italy’s
treasures. These five higgledypiggledy
villages – Monterosso,
Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola
and Riomaggiore – are cut off by
mountains choked with olive groves
and dry-stone-walled vineyards,
where farmers have eked out a living
over the centuries. The Cinque Terre
became a Unesco World Heritage site
in 1997, which includes a protected
marine area, and became a national
park (Parco Nazionale delle Cinque
Terre) in 1999. Wine growers still
use monorail mechanisms to ferry
themselves up and the grapes down
these unique lands, and in some
cases have to harvest by boat. If the
terraced hillsides are not worked, they
will quite literally slide into the sea.
