Shakespeare’s <strong>Globe</strong> announces full cast of The Tam<strong>in</strong>g of the Shrew and <strong>2012</strong><br />

theatre season The Play’s The Th<strong>in</strong>g kicks off with Henry V on 7 June<br />

Shakespeare’s <strong>Globe</strong> has announced the full cast for Shakespeare’s most outrageous comedy, The<br />

Tam<strong>in</strong>g of the Shrew, jo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Samantha Spiro and Simon Paisley Day as Kather<strong>in</strong>a and Petruchio.<br />

In addition, hav<strong>in</strong>g opened <strong>in</strong> Liverpool and delighted audiences around the UK, Henry V is on the<br />

f<strong>in</strong>al leg of its tour prior to clos<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Globe</strong> to <strong>Globe</strong> festival and open<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>2012</strong> theatre season,<br />

The Play’s The Th<strong>in</strong>g, with previews from 7 June.<br />

Preview<strong>in</strong>g from 23 June, The Tam<strong>in</strong>g of the Shrew is directed by Toby Frow, and sees Samantha<br />

Spiro as Kather<strong>in</strong>a, follow<strong>in</strong>g her recent performance <strong>in</strong> Filumena at the Almeida. Her extensive stage<br />

credits <strong>in</strong>clude Chicken Soup with Barley (Royal Court), her Olivier Award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g performance <strong>in</strong><br />

Hello Dolly (Regent’s Park), Twelfth Night and Merrily We Roll Along, for which she earned her first<br />

Olivier w<strong>in</strong> (Donmar/West End). Simon Paisley Day will play Petruchio, with recent theatre credits<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Malvolio <strong>in</strong> Twelfth Night (National <strong>Theatre</strong>), Private Lives (Vaudeville <strong>Theatre</strong> and on<br />

Broadway) and The Ugly One (Royal Court). Television credits <strong>in</strong>clude Doc Mart<strong>in</strong>, Sherlock, Hustle<br />

and Be<strong>in</strong>g Human.<br />

Jamie Parker is play<strong>in</strong>g Henry V to much regional acclaim on tour, hav<strong>in</strong>g performed as Pr<strong>in</strong>ce Hal <strong>in</strong><br />

both critically acclaimed productions of Henry IV Part 1 and 2 at the <strong>Globe</strong>. Parker was an orig<strong>in</strong>al cast<br />

member of The History Boys (National <strong>Theatre</strong>), perform<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the London, world tour and Broadway<br />

productions as well as the film. Dom<strong>in</strong>ic Dromgoole, Artistic Director of the <strong>Globe</strong> has directed Henry<br />

V, jo<strong>in</strong>ed by the 2010 creative team beh<strong>in</strong>d Henry IV Parts 1 and 2, Jonathan Fensom and Claire Van<br />

Kampen. Once complet<strong>in</strong>g its tour, the production will be re-worked before open<strong>in</strong>g at the <strong>Globe</strong> on 7<br />

June as the first production <strong>in</strong> the <strong>2012</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> <strong>Season</strong>.<br />

Return<strong>in</strong>g to the <strong>Globe</strong> <strong>in</strong> the cast of The Tam<strong>in</strong>g of the Shrew are Michael Bertenshaw (Anne<br />

Boleyn and Henry VIII) as Gremio, Pearce Quigley (Doctor Faustus) as Grumio, Joseph Timms<br />

(Henry IV Parts 1 and 2, and Bedlam) as Lucentio and Helen Weir (The <strong>Globe</strong> Mysteries and Much<br />

Ado About Noth<strong>in</strong>g) as the Widow. Sarah MacRae (Much Ado About Noth<strong>in</strong>g at Wyndham’s) will play<br />

Bianca and Pip Donaghy will play Baptista M<strong>in</strong>ola (Hamlet at the Young Vic). Jo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g them are Tom<br />

Anderson, David Beames, Jamie Beamish, Patrick Driver, Tom Godw<strong>in</strong>, Christopher Keegan<br />

and Rick Warden.

Here I Come at Gaiety <strong>Theatre</strong>), and <strong>Globe</strong> regulars Nigel Cooke (Doctor Faustus) as Exeter, Sam<br />

Cox (Anne Boleyn, All’s Well That Ends Well and Henry VIII) as the blustery Pistol, Paul Rider (Henry<br />

IV Parts 1 and 2, and Love’s Labour’s Lost) as Bardolph, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Duke<br />

of Burgundy, and David Hargreaves (The <strong>Globe</strong> Mysteries) as the French K<strong>in</strong>g, Nym and Erp<strong>in</strong>gham.<br />

Complet<strong>in</strong>g the cast of Henry V are Graham Butler, Giles Cooper, Matthew Flynn, Beruce Khan,<br />

James Lailey, Brendan O’Hea Olivia Ross, Chris Starkie, Lisa Stevenson and Roger Watk<strong>in</strong>s.<br />
