The Striking Ladies 9 Hole group has held several special golfing events this summer. Starting with a joint day playing 9 holes with
Silverado’s WGA. This was followed by a wine and cheese get together.
We also held our first exchange with Napa Valley Country club’s 9 Hole group. We invited them to play the North Course and join us
for Lunch. They were impressed with the north course and the excellent food in our clubhouse. We were invited to play the front 9 at Napa
Valley and honed our skills on uneven lies. We are already planning next year’s exchange.
August 25 was our first Guest day. Guests from Blackhawk, Fairfield, Sonoma and Napa Valley joined us for 9 holes and lunch. We hope
to hold more guest days this fall.
Coming in September is our third annual Couple’s twilight scramble. We will play a 9 hole scramble with several opportunities for
participants to win prizes. This will be followed by dinner and dancing.
Striking Ladies 9 Hole group is open to all women golf members of Silverado. If you are interested in joining us to play on Thursdays
this fall, please contact Brenda Schneider at nana99@gmail.com or Donna Foureman at dcjwcf@aol.com

MEN’S GOLF
Jim Clark
A quick report on the state of men’s golf, past,
present and future…
Men’s Match Play Finals were held August 6th
with the following results: Tim Tiegen defeated
Rodney Wray; Bud Alexander defeated Wayne
Sutton; Paul Turner defeated Don Heatherington;
Ray Fazzio defeated Jorgen Erting.
The match play event was a self administered event with all the
players setting up their matches in a given time period. Brian
Schaffer was the main coordinator and by all reports things ran
quite well. Thanks to all who participated.
On August 7th, the Junior Golf Tournament was held with 22
participants. There were hamburgers and hotdogs following the
tournament. Men’s Golf was the sponsor for this event. As you
know, this is a project the entire Silverado golf community can
stand behind. I would welcome anyone’s input on this project, so
please feel free to contact me at: lclark6372@aol.com.
With the Director’s Cup just two days away, August 27th, it
appears that we’ve exceed our participation goal of 50 players. This
should be a great event, with prizes of gift certificates to local
restaurants. I want to thank you all in advance in supporting our
event.
September at Silverado always promises fabulous weather, with
this in mind, the Men’s Gold Event, The Club Championship, will
be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 & 25th. This
MIXED GOLF
Karen Sulenski
Our Mixed golf season is rapidly winding down
with only three tournaments left to play. By the
time you receive this there will be only four days
left to sign up for our Member Guest event on
Sunday, September 4th. There will be three
flights, member guest, member-member, and noncompetitive.
Here’s the scoop: North course, 1 pm
shotgun, Shamble format, make your own foursomes then come in
for a Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffet Social a la Myrna Andrews.
All of you married folks out there will want to come out and
compete for the title of Mr. and Mrs. Club Champion on Sunday,
September 11th at 9 am. Sign-in at 8:30 am and be ready to work
as a team and achieve the title with low net best ball. An award for
low gross will also be given as well prizes to additional teams
having low scores. The event will be followed by lunch on the
Fairway Deck.
Our final and possibly our most important tournament of the year
is Golfing Fore the Cure on October 9th. Benefitting the Komen
Foundation for breast cancer, Arnie’s Army for prostate cancer
and the American Cancer Society, this Battle of the Sexes event
event will crown both the Regular Club Champion and the
Senior Club Champion (ages 68 & over). If you are a senior, you
may elect to participate in the Regular Club Champion. Those
electing the regular Club Championship may only participate in that
category and must elect either gross or net flight. The Senior Club
Champions participants will only compete in that category and may
win Senior Club Champion gross or net flight prizes.
The format is stroke play over 2 days, beginning Saturday the 24th
on the North Course at 8:30am shotgun. Sunday, will be held on
South Course, 8:30am shotgun. Cost for the tournament is $50.00
per player.
This event, over the years, has been the least attended overall;
therefore, we’ve shortened the event to 2 days and will add a
“Players Only Pari-mutuel” to heighten interest. Plan on appetizers
and a drink on Saturday, and an Awards lunch and a drink on
Sunday.
On Sunday. October 2nd we will be hosting the Li’l Abner Event.
It is a 9:00 a.m. shotgun. It’s not too late to grab a partner.
September 2-5, 2011, for all of you patriots, there is a chance to
recognize the men and women of our armed forces, by donating
at least $1.00 for “Folds of Honor Society” at the Silverado Pro
Shop. If you donate $25.00 of more, you will be entered in a
drawing for a free Golf Lesson from one of our pro golfers.
Register for all or any of the above listed events at:
www.silveradomembers.com
promises to be challenging and fun. Make your own foursome of
men or women and plan on using two best balls of the team. If you
insist on mixed foursomes, one best ball of the men and one best
ball of the women will count. Your entry fee is your donation with
25% going to each charity and the winning side benefitting
another 25% to either the breast or prostate foundations. Please
mark your calendars. More information will be provided on the
GREENS COMMITTEE
Harry Matthews
Your Greens Committee met in August with Director of Golf, Tim Geesey and Grounds Superintendant, Dustin
Strickland with discussion centering on housekeeping and maintenance issues which are detailed below:
Construction Update
The Lake Project on the South Course is moving along perfectly. As this article is written, the liner has been installed
and concrete edge has been poured. There will be sodding next week and the entire project looks like a huge success. The
removal of the peninsula next to the 9th green has made a dramatic impact on the green complex. One thing to notice is
Johnny Millers’ use of some of the dirt that was removed to enhance the front entrance to the green.
One of the other big changes that Johnny Miller made was the addition of a new forward tee on the 15th hole. This hole has been a very
difficult hole for some of our members and guests due to the forced carry over the water. With the new slope in front of the green, the
addition of this tee was very important. Tim Geesey wants, once again, to convey his appreciation of your patience through this process.
North Course Work Continues: One of the important points that Tim wants communicated to everyone in the membership is the Resort’s
continuing effort to improve the turf conditions on the North Course. The turf renovation program that was started last year will
continue for the foreseeable future. In September they will again be applying the herbicide that kills Kikuyu grass and over-seeding with
the Rye/Bluegrass mix that’s been used extensively on the North Course. During this process, golfers will notice the browning of
the Kikuyu grass followed by some wetter-than-normal conditions. These conditions are needed to germinate the grasses that are being
seeded. The end result is a fantastic quality of turf that we will all enjoy.
Reminder: Share your cart and cart path only on par 3s.
GOLF
Tim Geesey
TROON PRIVÉ PROGRAM
I’ve been answering some questions about the
Privé Program recently, so I thought I would send
this out in the connection so everyone could
understand this wonderful program.
The Troon Privé program is Troon Golf's Premier
Reciprocal Program for golf members Troon’s
collection of private clubs. Golf members at Troon Privé private
clubs have the privilege to play at other private clubs for host club’s
cart fee rate. Also, members are entitled to bring up to three guests
that will play for host club’s accompanied rates ($100 here at
Silverado). Each golfer can play up to (6) rounds at any given
facility in one calendar year. (This benefit is limited to (3) visits for
clubs in same geographic market i.e. Marin Country Club).
The program has been a wonderful addition to our membership
and many of you have enjoyed the ability to play at other Troon
private clubs for a nominal cart fee. These clubs include: Pronghorn
in Bend, Oregon, Entrada at Snow Canyon in Utah, and Quintero
Golf Club in Arizona just to name a few.
As members of Silverado, I hope each of you will take
advantage of this program. In addition to the Privé program, you
also can book rounds of golf at Troon Daily Fee or Resort Courses
through the Troon Advantage Program. Please stop by the golf shop
and talk to Pete or Brian if you have any questions.

NET SET/TENNIS HAPPENINGS
Genie Sasloff and Jacob Hansen
We have had another solid month of tennis in
an incredible summer tennis season. James and
Jacob have been on court more than they ever
imagined and the courts have been buzzing with
activity most mornings. We are looking forward
to the fall as that's when it really warms up
around here…
AUGUST HIGHLIGHTS
Advanced Mixed Doubles Night - We had 24 teams play king of
the court for our monthly mixed event. The two finalists were
who participated.
Jr. Program - Casey did a wonderful job working with the Junior
Program this summer. We saw a lot of progress in the kids, a ton of
fun, and a great desire to compete. It was a pleasure working with
all of your children and grandkids. Looking forward to the fall
program and next summer!
Windscreens, Water Coolers and Bulletin Board - Thank you for
your cooperation and flexibility with courts as we work to get the
windscreens up. They've given a very fresh feel to the courts along
with the new water coolers, score tenders, nets and paint going up
around the tennis courts. We've also got a new bulletin board
hanging on court 1 highlighting upcoming events. Big thanks to
management for their support.
MEDIA
June, has posted his write up on the resort. We've got a 5 Tennis Ball
Do you know the way to my office? Take a ride over to the Spa, proceed thru the Spa Café toward the sparkling pool and my door is your
last left before the exit. Please feel free to stop by anytime! Speaking of taking a ride over to the Spa, if you’re in your golf cart, please
do the groundskeepers a favor and don’t park on the grass around the Pool. It’s looking poorly in spots as a result of this practice. Instead,
park in the parking lot and take a very short stroll to the Pool. Thanks for that.
Given that smooth segue to discussion of golf carts… I must ask – is your cart currently registered? If you’re using a
private cart it must be registered with me and inspected quarterly at the Cart Shop. It should also be insured with General Liability limits
of $100,000/$300,000 and Bodily Injury/ Property of $50,000. Please call me to register your carts!
With that, I wish you all a great month of September and share with you one of my favorite quotes about this month, “By all these lovely
tokens September days are here, with summer’s best of weather and autumn’s best of cheer”
– Helen Hunt Jackson 1830-1885.

SPA NEWS
Suzy Bordeaux-Johlfs
Thank you for everyone for the warm welcome! I look forward to meeting you at the
Spa and around the beautiful Silverado property!
My position here as the Spa Director allows me the opportunity to create unique
programming with which to showcase our fantastic Resort. You will begin to see touches
of the spa as you enjoy the amenities around the property. I’d like to begin your
Silverado Journey by drawing your attention to the natural essences of our
lavender plantings as you walk from place to place around the Resort. They are not
only pleasing to the eye but beneficial to us as well. They were planted specifically to
rejuvenate your mind and spirit. Lavender is known as nature’s gift to soothe the
soul and has been used for healing proposes for centuries. Some of the benefits of
lavender are that encourages new skin cell growth, calms the stressed mind. It is also
a natural antiseptic. Here at Spa Silverado we offer two services where we
incorporate this amazing herb. Our Lavender Sugar Scrub will leave you feeling
renewed and refreshed as we scrub your worries away leaving your skin feeling well
hydrated and ultra smooth. Our Lavender Mint Clay Wrap will naturally pull toxins
from the skin while simultaneously exfoliating and improving skin tone and circulation.
