The CFA is seeking two full-time firefighters to work at the Dandenong Fire Station. No experience is necessary. Job Description: The Firefighter will carry out the following tasks: • answer fire alarms and emergency calls; • drive or crew firefighting appliances or other fire vehicles to scenes of fire or accident; • operate fire pumps, direct water, foam or chemicals from hoses, portable extinguishers or other appliances to put out fires or to wash away chemicals; • rescue people trapped or stranded in dangerous situations, using ladders or elevating platforms or by cutting openings in buildings and crashed vehicles to free people; • apply first aid; • participate in fire drills, demonstrations and courses in firefighting techniques; • visit buildings and potential fire hazards to identify safe entrances and positioning of fire hydrants; • inspect, service and maintain fire fighting equipment and hydrants; • may train industrial and volunteer firefighters and give instructions in fire-prevention, firefighting, rescue, evacuation and use of breathing apparatus. Working Conditions: Firefighters wear uniforms and may wear breathing apparatus when fighting a fire. They practise daily skills such as driving, handling equipment and operating ladders. They may be required to work both day and night shifts. Personal Requirements: Firefighters must be fit. They need to pass a medical examination and fitness test. They must have normal eyesight and be able to work under pressure in dangerous situations. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years of age. Qualifications: • Successful completion of Year 10 or completion of a trade certificate. • Applicants must successfully pass selection tests and an interview. • Preference will be given to those who have previously done volunteer work with the Country Fire Authority.
