Dear Member’s,
The Inter club Karlsburg karaoke competition finals were held on the 3rd of
September 2011 at the club. All the participants & audience had a good time.
The AGM of Presidency club was held on the 17th of September 2011. A new
team has been elected to the Managing Committee. They have been allotted with
departments. We are all looking forward to new ideas & innovations from them.
Membership cards are not transferable and are solely for the named members use
only. The cards have been dispatched to respective members only. Kindly check
the same if there is any discrepancy, kindly notify the club office.
While we are enjoying that nice cold beer in I bar or having a dip in the pool or
working it out in the gym or enjoying a great dinner at Emerald or Crystal, we
must remember that there is a group of people who constantly strive to provide
the best club experience for you – our staff. They regularly go out of their way to
ensure that members enjoy their time in the club. We encourage our members to
give due respect to the staff and recognize their efforts with a little recognition,
staff will feel that they are valued and this will motivate them to continue their
good work.
The need for mutual respect and understanding between members is also
important for maintaining a pleasant environment in the club. Presidency has
earned its reputation as being a family oriented club and its members form one big
happy family. Sometimes, disagreements and disputes do happen, just like they
do in a family. Hence, the club strongly urges members to resolve disagreements
and disputes amicably.
The entire club community, whether it is our members or staff, must be treated
fairly and with respect. We will then achieve more together and rally to make
presidency the ‘premier’ club in India.
The Committee is in the process of amending certain clauses in the Articles of
Association of the Club. If any member would like to suggest can do so by writing
to the Club.

A
subcommittee meeting
(with Prasad, Prem
Kumar, Ganesan and
myself) was called for before
the gym competition. After a
lengthy discussion we finally
understood that there were
totally 39 categories and our
gym coach wanted to add
some more. No.. no.. no.. was
our answer in unison for the
extras.
Competition
With strict rules and
regulations laid down, the gym
competition started on August
5th and went on for twenty
days for all the categories. 39
first prizes, 39 second prizes
and over an all championship
sounded fun. We had a record
number of 83 participant
entries. Competitive spirit
was present in each and every
participant. Our dedicated
subcommittee team spared
nothing to chance and gave
the event their undivided
attention.
The gym competition
definitely brought out many
of the hidden potentials of our
fellow club members and their
spouse like Mrs.Geetha,
Mrs.HemaGaba,
Mrs.C.P.Chitra,
Mrs. Santhana Lakshmi and
Mrs. Sunitha Krishnan who

are not regulars to the club
gym made a difference in
the tread mill 20 minutes
without catching the bars
competition. And to the
members who are regulars
like Ms.Latha Kumarswami,
Ms.Sujatha Ravi, Ms.Nishar,
Ms. Umamaheshwari,
Mr. R. Ravi,
Mr. Pradeep Bhandari ,
Mr. Naren Ghorpade ,
Mr. Nirmal Sawlani,
Mr. Harish,
Mr. Senthil Bhaskar,
Mr. Puzhend and the list
can go on and on. They all
practiced sincerely and all of
them were winners.

No gym competition is
complete without the mention
of Ganesan sir. He has proved
that exercise has not got to do
anything with age, but with
will power, commitment and
regular practice. He has been
the overall champion for the last
four years. A special mention
to Mr. Krishna Sai for his
dedication and commitment
and to Mr.Bhaskar for his
enthusiasm. They keep raising
their standards.
The 39 first and second prizes
were Nokia Bluetooth’s and
Karlsberg shirts respectively.
The overall rolling trophy in
the men’s category went to Mr.
Ganesan and in the women’s
category went to Mrs. Rani
Chandani. Every participant
got a bucket full of goodies. a
bucket (water bottle, magnetic
dart board, T-Shirt, box of ear
buds, fancy note book, packet
of cloth lined covers, yoga
mattress, cap , six juice glasses
and a certificate of merit).
On the whole the event was
a grand success. Thanks to
all the participants and the
organising team!!

The grand feast Onasadhya’ served with rice as its main course, accompanied by a variety of side dishes
including as curries, uppaeries, pappadam, uppilittathu/achaar (pickle) and pradhaman. The feast was
served on banana leaf. Remarkable entries were received and the lunch was enjoyed well by every one. It is
proud to mention that most of items served were prepared by in house - our cooks. Our appreciation to all
in particularly our Chefs.

and so on.
The judges had a
tough time arriving
at a decision. Our
judges - proffesional
singers - also
showcased their
songs during the
competition.
The highlight of the
evening was that
our Chief Guest
Mr. Debendranath
Sarangi, IAS not only
presented a trophy
to winners but also
sang a few melody
numbers, a private
stage performance,
which every one
enjoyed.

AARATHY
Aarathy Kasturiraj, finished 3rd in the final lap of the Junior Ladies Point to Point 10000 meters Elimination
Road Race securing 1. Point and was classified 10th place in the race at the 2011 World Roller Skating
Championships held in Yesou - Korea from the 30th. Aug to 5th September. 39 Participants from different
countries like USA, China, Korea, Australia, Japan Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Hongkong, Ireland,
Belgium, Columbia, Chile and Russia participated in this event.
SHE IS THE FIRST SKATER FROM INDIA TO ACHIEVE THIS INCREDIBLE FEAT.
K.Aarathy a 12th std student of Bhavans Rajaji Vidhyashram - Chennai, has till date won 97 medals 81 gold,
9 silver and 7 bronze medals in various National and International Skating events – both in Ice Skating and
Inline Skating.
Aarathy represented India in the ISU World Junior Short Track Speed Skating Championship in 2011 Feb
which was held at Courmayer, Italy and was placed 33rd. She is the only Skater to represent the country in
the World Championship.
In Jan 2011 Aarathy won 4 golds, 1 silver and the Individual Championship in the 48th National Roller
Skating Championship held in Visakapatnam. She was the first girl to achieve this feat of 4 golds
1 silver in India. And she has been winning the Individual Championship for the past 4 years.
In the 2009 World Roller Speed Skating Championship held in Haining City China, she placed
10th in the 42 km Marathon Road race. She was the first skater from India to achieve this
incredible feat in the World Championship. The Previous best by an Indian Skater was 23rd
place. She also placed 13th in the Point to Point Elimination Race, and 12th in the 15 Km track
event.
In the 14th Asian Roller Skating Championship held in Taipei, Taiwan, she won 2
Bronze medals.
She received the - “NATIONAL CHILD AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL
ACHIEVEMENT” for the year 2008, from Smt.Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson, United
Progressive Alliance, in the presence of Smt.Renuka Chowdhury, the then Minister
of State for Women and Child Development, in New Delhi. She was awarded
a Silver Medal along with a cash price of Rs. 10,000/-. The award was given to
recognize her exceptional achievement in the field of “Roller Skating”.
It is noteworthy to mention that Aarathy was the first Indian to win a gold medal
in the Swiss Inline Cup which is dominated by European Countries at Beil, Switzerland,
at a young age of 11 years.

Recipe
ADHIRASAM
Method
Ingredients
• Raw Rice - 1 Kg
• Jaggery - ¾ Kg
• Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp
• Khus Khus - 2 tsp
• Dry Ginger Powder - ½ tsp
• Oil to fry
• Soak the rice in water for 2 hours. Drain the rice and spread it out on a clean cloth till it is almost
dry.
• Powder it in a blender and sieve through a medium mesh strainer and set aside.
• In a pan, dissolve the jaggery with 1 cup water. Heat the mixture, without boiling, till the jaggery
melts. Strain through a fine sieve. Pour the syrup in to a clean saucepan and bring to boil. Simmer
till the mixture reaches the soft-ball stage. (To check, drop a teaspoon of the mixture in to a cup of
ice cold water. If you can shape it in to a soft ball, that loses its shape very quickly, then it is done.)
• Stir in the cardamom, khus-khus and powdered ginger. Take it off the heat, and stir in the rice
flour. Stir well to make soft dough. Cover and let it rest for at least 3 hours or preferably, overnight.
• Heat the oil for deep-frying over a medium flame.
• Using a greased banana leaf or a plastic sheet, flatten small amounts of the dough to form palm
sized, about 1 cm in thickness cakes.
• Fry the cakes in hot oil till it turns dark brown color.
• Drain, press out the excess oil and serve it hot.
