ALPHA CHI
Society recognizes excellent grade achievement
Stimulating the achievement of superior
scholarship on the part of her students is a vital
function of a college. The Arkansas Eta Chapter
of Alpha Chi, a national honor scholarship
society, was chartered on the Harding campus
in the spring of 1957 to assist the faculty in
achieving this goal. The chapter of a national
honor society was petitioned by the Alpha Honor
Society, a local honor society organized in the
winter of 1935. Membership in Alpha Chi is
limited to not more than ten per cent of the
junior and senior classes. Membership as a junior
further requires the attainment of at least 3.70
scholarship average on not fewer than 80 semester
hours and membership as a senior further
requires at least a 3.50 average on not fewer
than 10·1 semester hours. New members are
inducted near the beginning of each semester
with an impressive ceremony followed by a
dinner. At commencement each spring the chapter
presents a key to the graduating senior who
has achieved the highest academic average.
