Household refuse collection
Around the clock: Züri-Sack in the Züri-Sack container
Before 7:00 am: Please place containers at the roadside on the weekly pickup day
Chargeable sack: white-blue, not black or grey
This is allowed! Light bulbs, halogen bulbs, sanitary products, cat litter, plastic materials,
plastic packaging, nylon stockings, small pieces of paper, paper bags,
razor blades (well packed), vacuum cleaner bags, tetra packs, deep-freeze
packaging, drinking glass (small amounts) sweeping residue, cigarette butts
This is not allowed!
Rechargeable batteries, aluminium, batteries, electronic devices, paint, crockery,
glass, ceramics, medications, metal, mirrors
Biodegradable waste pickup
Only by subscription: Weekly from mid-March to mid-December, every two weeks
from mid-December to mid-March (individual pickups each Wednesday, only if ordered in
advance by phone)
Individual pickup without a subscription: Reserve one week in an advance by calling
044 645 77 77 (in containers only)
Before 7:00 am: Place biodegradable containers at the pickup location.
Biodegradable container: Available from ERZ or in retail shops.
This is allowed! Organic garden refuse
Lawn and field cuttings, bush and flower cuttings (up to approx. 5 cm thick),
plant stems and vegetables, leaves, weeds and fallen fruit, balcony and
potted plants
Kitchen waste
Peelings, fruit and vegetables, coffee grounds and tea residues, eggshells/
egg cartons, small animal waste including feathers, straw, hay and sawdust,
composting bags
Food waste
Household food leftovers (cooked and uncooked), bread and baked goods,
dairy products, eggs, grease, sauces
This is not allowed!
Textile collection
3 times annually: in front of your residence
Textile bags: mailed to all households
On the collection day: tied textile bags before 8:30 a.m. on the curb
Only wearable, clean textiles: tie shoes together in pairs

Tip
Christmas tree disposal: ERZ will pick up your Christmas tree free of charge in January. How it works:
Remove the decorations; shorten the tree to 1.5 meters, tie it together and place it next to the Züri-Sack
container where it can be seen on the weekly pickup day for biodegradable refuse.

Hazardous waste collection

ink cartridges, energy-saving lightbulbs, paint, fire extinguishers, gas bottles,
poisons, timber preservatives, lacquers, alkaline substances, fluorescent
lamps, solvents, medicines, petroleum, pesticides, cleaning agents,
x-rays, acids, aerosols, thermometers
Ammunition/explosives (à Local Zurich City Police station), radioactive waste
(à Federal Health Department, BAG), bulky items, electronic equipment
Paper collection
Every 2 weeks: in front of your residence
Bundled, tied: on the collection day before 7:00 a.m. on the curb
No paper bags or cardboard boxes as collection containers: they will not be
picked up because they hinder collection and reduce recycling quality!

This is allowed! Sheet glass, metal, PET beverage bottles, bulky items, masonry

E-Tram
Final station for: electronic devices

Only for pedestrians: no delivery by car

This is not allowed!

or dirty paper, tetra packs, deep-freeze packaging
Every 4 weeks: in front of your residence
Folded, bundled, tied: on the collection day before 7:00 a.m. on the curb
Clean and uncoated: only clean cardboard will be collected
No paper bags or cardboard boxes as collection containers: they will not be
picked up because they hinder collection and reduce recycling quality!

packaging, laundry detergent cartons (without plastic handle)

hazardous waste, bulk goods over 40 kg or longer than 2.5 m per piece
Petrol/Gasoline-driven equipment (power saws, lawn mowers) > large pieces
of metal, metal tools, hazardous waste (rechargeable and disposable
batteries)
