LOCATION OF MISS
AND HIT SYSTEM
(LOMAH)

Location Of Miss And Hit System
- LOMAH
There is a need for an enhanced evaluation
of live fire exercises for all levels of training
from individual skills precision scoring to
tactical field firing including consideration
of suppressive fire. For live fire training of infantry
as well as heavier weapon platforms
in large numbers a cost-effective solution is
required. To support field firing, set-up and
calibration procedures has to be kept to a
minimum. Where the firing position relative
the target position isn’t fixed and for moving
targets the system needs to register fire
from different angles without degeneration
of accuracy. Due to it’s unique, patented
cluster configuration and acoustic sensor
design, the new Location Of Miss And Hit
System - LOMAH provides the most versatile
and cost-effective solution available on
the market. The sensor is designed as an
add-on module to Saab target lifters, and
control and monitoring is integrated in the
Range Control Software – GRC5.
Unique Sensor
The design is based on a unique patented
three dimensional sensor-clusters for superior
capability of recording supersonic
projectiles from variable angles of fire with
maintained accuracy. This unique capability
makes it especially suitable for precision
scoring on deployable systems (field firing)
and where the firing position may vary. Further
more the design minimises the need
for set-up and calibration. The basic configuration
is 750 mm wide and provides
precision scoring accuracy for infantry size
targets and a hit/miss detection capability
for an area of 4x3m. On request the sensor
can be provided for larger targets and detection
zones including tank targets, structures
(buildings) and area targets.
System capabilities
• Multipurpose usage
o High precision skills training
o Tactical and field trainer
o Effective Alignment of sights to weapon
systems (zeroing)
• Scalable
o Infantry targets – Small Arms training
o Armour targets - Integrated Gunnery Training
(IGT)
o Structures
• Deployable - for fixed as well as deployable
applications.
o Variable firing positions relative target with
maintained accuracy without re-calibration.
o Applicable on moving targets as it handles
dynamic firing angles with maintained
accuracy.
System description
• Capabilities
o Real time projectile data evaluation and
transfer to control system
Example of screen views in the Graphic Range Control
o Detailed hit data presentation
o Fire effects evaluation including consideration
of suppressive fire and hit zones
o AAR including statistics and reports
• Control system
o Stationary PC for Fixed Range control
station
o Ruggedized Hand Held Controller for
o
portable systems
Wireless Scoring Monitor
Acoustic Sensor Features
• BT 28 LOMAH Sensor – Add-on module
to target lifters.
• 5 mm accuracy in centre of target
• Sustained accuracy even in wide azimuth
and elevation angles gives unique capability
to be used in both field of fixed applications.
• Self diagnose capability (BIT) in real-time.
• Automatic temperature compensation of
data.
• Calculation of:
o Projectile position (X,Y) in target.
o Incoming
resolution.
projectile angle with high
o Projectile velocity.
o Round type.
o MPI
• Ruggedized design to withstand harsh
environment
• Compact size and low weight
• No complicated calibration – only simple
mechanical alignment to target
