Sec. 8. SHOES MUST BE WORN BY ALL PLAYERS. A SHOE SHALL BE<br />

CONSIDERED OFFICIAL IF IT IS MADE WITH EITHER CANVAS OR<br />

LEATHER UPPERS OR SIMILAR MATERIALS. The soles may be either smooth<br />

or have soft or hard rubber cleats. No metal spikes are allowed in any division. No hard<br />

plastic or polyurethane spikes similar to metal sole <strong>and</strong> heel plate are allowed in any<br />

division. No shoes with detachable cleats that screw ON are allowed; however shoes with<br />

detachable cleats that screw INTO the shoe are allowed.<br />

Sec. 9. HELMETS, MASKS, BODY PROTECTORS, AND SHIN GUARDS.<br />

a. Catchers must wear a protective helmet <strong>and</strong> a protective mask with throat protector<br />

that is part of or attached to the mask, the catcher’s helmet <strong>and</strong> mask combination<br />

shall meet the NOCSAE st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>and</strong> have full ear protection (dual ear flaps).<br />

NOTE: The catcher’s head, face, <strong>and</strong> throat protection may be a one-piece design or<br />

a multi-piece design.<br />

b. Body protectors are m<strong>and</strong>atory for catchers in Fast Pitch, <strong>and</strong> Slow Pitch.<br />

c. Fast Pitch catchers must wear shin guards. It is recommended that Slow Pitch<br />

catchers wear shin guards.<br />

PLAY — Catcher refuses to wear her mask after being ordered to wear a mask by the Umpire.<br />

RULING — Forfeited game shall be declared by the umpire if no one else will wear<br />

mask <strong>and</strong> catch.<br />

Sec. 10. NO EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LEFT LYING ON THE FIELD, EITHER<br />

IN FAIR OR FOUL TERRITORY. (See Rule 9, Section 5g-Play 4) All non-player<br />

equipment — including wheelchairs, crutches <strong>and</strong> other similar items—shall be confined<br />

to out-of-play areas.<br />

Sec. 11. UNIFORM. All players on a team shall wear uniforms alike in color, trim, <strong>and</strong><br />

style. The Manager, Coach, <strong>and</strong> Business Manager when not in a softball uniform are<br />

requested to dress "appropriately" recognizing that the attention should be on the players<br />

<strong>and</strong> not the adults. If short pants are worn, they must be "walking shorts" or shorts designed<br />

for softball competition. Uniforms required in league <strong>and</strong> tournament play include a shirt,<br />

pants, or shorts, <strong>and</strong> shall be worn by all players. No tank tops are permitted. A tank top is<br />

a shirt without sleeves with less than a 1 1/2 inch wide shoulder strap. Players shall wear/<br />

utilize uniforms/equipment properly as designed by the manufacturer.<br />

NOTE: In tournament play, players may wear their individual league uniform.<br />

a. HEADWEAR. Ball caps, visors, <strong>and</strong> headb<strong>and</strong>s are optional for players. If worn,<br />

they can be mixed, but must be worn properly. If one type or more than one type<br />

is worn, they all must be same in color. H<strong>and</strong>kerchiefs do not qualify as headb<strong>and</strong>s<br />

<strong>and</strong> cannot be worn, either around the head or around the neck.<br />

NOTE: Plastic visors are not allowed as headwear.<br />
