Sec. 10. DEFENSIVE CONFERENCES – THERE SHALL BE ONLY THREE<br />

CHARGED CONFERENCES BETWEEN THE MANAGER OR OTHER TEAM<br />

REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE DUGOUT WITH ANY DEFENSIVE<br />

PLAYER(S) IN A REGULATION GAME. For every inning beyond regulation, there<br />

shall be one charged conference per inning between the manager or other team representative<br />

from the dugout with any defensive player(s).<br />

NOTE: The fourth, <strong>and</strong> each additional, charged conference in a regulation game, or<br />

for any charged conference in excess of one per inning in an extra inning game, shall result<br />

in the removal of the pitcher from the pitching position for the remainder of the game. The<br />

removed pitcher can play another position on defense but cannot pitch again.<br />

RULE 8. BATTING<br />

Sec 1. THE BATTER SHALL TAKE HER POSITION WITHIN THE LINES OF<br />

THE BATTER’S BOX. After getting set in the batters box the batter must keep at least<br />

one foot in the batter's box while taking signals from the coach.<br />

EXCEPTION: The batter can leave the box when she hits a fair or foul ball, checks<br />

swings, forced out by a play at the plate, forced out by a pitch if the pitcher leaves the eight<br />

foot pitchers circle, or the catcher leaves the catchers box.<br />

EFFECT: If the batter leaves the batters box illegally <strong>and</strong> does not return to the box,<br />

after a warning, the umpire will call a strike on the batter.<br />

a. The batter shall not have her entire foot touching the ground completely outside the<br />

lines of the batter’s box or touching home plate when the ball is hit.<br />

b. The batter shall not step directly across in front of the catcher to the other batter’s<br />

box while the pitcher is in position, ready to pitch<br />

c. The batter shall not enter the batter’s box with an illegal bat.<br />

PLAY — Batter hits ball for a single with (a) a bat 35 inches long, or (b) a baseball bat.<br />

RULING — In both cases, the bats are illegal. The batter is called out <strong>and</strong> all runners<br />

are returned to the base they were at, at the start of the pitch.<br />

EFFECT: Sec. 1 a-c: The ball is dead, the batter is out, <strong>and</strong> baserunners may NOT advance.<br />

d. The batter shall not enter the batter’s box with an altered bat.<br />

EFFECT: Sec. 1 d: The ball is dead; the batter is out <strong>and</strong>, without warning, is<br />

removed from further participation in the game; <strong>and</strong> baserunners may not advance.<br />

PLAY— REFER TO RULE 1, SECTION 1.<br />

e. The batter must take her position within 20 seconds after the umpire has called “play ball.”<br />

EFFECT: Sec. 1e: The ball is dead. A strike shall be called on the batter for each<br />

20 seconds the batters box is not occupied after the umpire has called, “play ball.”<br />
