OBJECTIVES OF THIS <strong>TRAINING</strong> <strong>MANUAL</strong><br />
This manual is to be used in conjunction with the Laws of Cricket (2000 Code 4 th Edition-<br />
2010).<br />
Instructions on the laws of cricket can be used by instructors to the benefit of aspiring<br />
umpires.<br />
Outlined here are major points requiring important discussion beginning from laws:<br />
In following this format the laws will be easily understood and better applied. The highlighted<br />
points are the abbreviated laws, and the bold heavy print and darkened laws are plain and<br />
applied interpretation.<br />
In presenting the laws, and to create interest always make your presentation user friendly<br />
as far as possible. At times your presentation will be to a wide variety of personalities.<br />
Hence keep things as simple as possible, but interesting. Explain the purpose and intention of<br />
the laws to not get carried away in too much over burdening technical details.<br />
Let there be an inter change of laws, when conducting sessions requiring knowledge of<br />
measurements, implements of the game dedicate time with some of the laws that are<br />
integrated with the game.<br />
Discussion, of certain laws require more time when delivering lectures. Prepare a<br />
reasonable time frame of not more than two (2) hours per session on evenings. It is highly<br />
re<strong>com</strong>mended that group discussions and a review session should be conducted after each<br />
lecture. In this manual there are no references to any playing conditions or experimental<br />
laws that from time to time may be used by different territories.<br />
It is re<strong>com</strong>mended that use be made visual presentations using programs such as Microsoft<br />
PowerPoint to enliven the presentation and bring out the jewels of knowledge and pearls of<br />
wisdom.<br />
We do hope that this manual shall benefit all concerned.<br />
